Interesting statistics, but there are some caveats with a few of them IMHO. For example the player lift for a game launching in GP compared to Steam, well the obvious reason for that is because GP has a much smaller catalogue of games so individual new additions will attract more attention. As the amount of content in the service grows that lift will probably decrease on average.

Social conversation, I think it needs to be stressed that a lot of it comes more from what that release does for GamePass, at least initially, and it really doesn't transition into more of the game itself aside from the service as a factor until it's actually available to play. And however long that phase holds for social conversation comes down to quality and size. A potential point of curiosity is if that progression of conversational discourse is an overall benefit or detriment to discussion within the hobby.

Overall though, interesting data.

I already got a couple!!!

Event execution time and stall time graphing in PIX. Literally one of the most highly requested performance optimization features from Xbox devs. Probably not the one you were looking for me to say, but give me time.

I'll find some marketable and easily repeatable things that just roll off the tongue. Expect me.

Gamepass is a beast, both for gamers and devs.

Some of these stats are crazy and make publishers who don't want to be on Gamepass look like crazy.
3.5x player lift for new games from large publishers is crazy

And good indie devs are absolutely feasting. They get a guaranteed payout for Gamepass, they get a ton of eyes on their game which translates into more sales, more hype about your franchise/company and more potential customers in the future. Complete no-brainer.

I wasn't aware that DirectStorage was already being used in Series X games.
Definitely not on cross-gen (gen9aware) games tho. I think not every current game has it, because it obviously wasn't ready, for the start (and you build your "back end" first)...

They should have addressed whether it was sustainable or legal. :messenger_winking_tongue:

I never would've played The Gunk if it wasn't on Gamepass and I loved it.

A lot of interesting talks here that I’m checking out one by one. I’m glad Microsoft shares these publicly for free rather than keep them behind a gdc ticket. Though the gdc conference presentations are where the meat really is.

As a software developer (non-gaming), I've programmed using multiple languages and platforms over the years. Microsoft has no equal, imo, when it comes to providing information and training for developers.

It is always fascinating to separate reality from fantasy when it comes to Game pass metrics and the commentary some make. It clearly is making a positive impact to the games industry and the best part about it is that it is totally optional. Nothing wrong with providing gamers value and choice.

Obviously…it allowing indie developers to focus on their games more than the business. That’s freeing for any artist.

Why do they call non GP members lookalikes?
Because they have selected only a percentage of high spending users and called them "lookalikes" instead of whales.

They are essentially just saying if you look at whales only our whales are bigger.

It means percent over a control group and the term is more often used to measure conversions via advertising. I'll tell you right now "player lift" means jack squat. Of course you're going to get "player lift" on a service where you can play games "for free." I know a lot of people aren't going to like this, and I'm only answering because you asked, and I don't think engaging in this discussion is useful in this thread, so this will be my only post ... But I can tell you most of the "stats" Microsoft lists here are pretty useless in terms of what a business actually cares about. The only one I had a question about was GP users spending 50% more than "similar users." How is that defined? It can mean anything. I have spent zero dollars on Xbox since getting GPU. I've spent like 180 or so on PS5 in the past two months (Sifu, HFW Deluxe, Elden Ring). I would have happily spent money on Xbox if that was required to play the games but it's just not so ... again, 50% more spent? Who are these people and why? More information is needed, and they could be defining their control group any way they want. So again ... kind of a meaningless stat. :)

So ... bottom line! "Lift" is the percent of increased conversions over a control group. :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:
