I love all consoles, but my wish for the future it the possibility to play every game on a handheld/hybrid device like SteamDeck.

I mean eventually that will be the endgame.
there will come a point in time when mobile hardware is powerful that the limiting factors for both scale and graphical quality of a game are 100% about budget and talent.

then hardware will eventually be good enough to have almost movie like quality on a handheld...

that will not be soon of course, but eventually we will reach that point.

the question is how long will it take. I'll say 15 years

It's wild that there are people legitimately upset about PS games on PC, lol. It literally does nothing wrong and brings nothing but positivity to the PS brand. A larger pool of people get to experience PS titles, they sell even more, make even more money, etc.

PS5 will continue to thrive for those that don't want to or prefer to not game on a PC. There's plenty of people like that. Those people, especially fanboys, will remain unharmed as they will continue to get what they want, they just need to be better with sharing. :)

Sweet. I'm accepting my Switch + PC future. I like the idea of it. Dedicated uber powered PC to the living room TV. Bring it all, Sony.

Graphics so realistic as to be "good enough" are the gaming equivalent of nuclear fusion reactors. People said they were 15-20 years away 20 years ago, and they'll be saying the same thing 20 years from now.

I mean at this point in terms of PC hardware all we need really is better ray tracing performance. we already have graphics basically be limited by studio manpower now in many cases.

so if that scales over time to mobile chips too we will have reached the point where it will almost be 100% a budget thing how good a game looks and what kind of scope it has.

They couldn't have made a better choice. PC is literally the best platform. Now everyone has choices to play on their platform whether console or PC.

Great Job Sony!

Have you taken a look at their 2025 graph?

Wow, a taking mobile serious and 12 GaaS games... this isn't a good sign for the Gaming Industry as a whole.

This would have been some prime April 1st news, but it's not.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
i dont understand why people expect console gamers to jump to PC, its like they forgot high end GPU alone is more expensive than the whole console.
Not everybody willing to spend tons of money on a gaming platform.

This is coming from a console gamer that owns 3 gaming PC previusly. Tried to stick with gaming PC, could not do it, back to console in the end.

lets not talk about the technical headaches as well, too many updates, too many softwares, too many drivers...

oh...lets not forget about hackers, seems to be worse on PC platform

Can't see why they just don't go day and date like MS. The amount of people with a PC that's better than a PS5 is miniscule, and outside of the hardcore nobody is willing to spend $1000+ to get a PC is. Don't see it canabalising PS5 sales in the slightest, if anything their user base expands massively.

Its going to happen sooner or later.

Because going day and date is stupid! MS is only doing it because they have to in order to survive.

Why is it stupid? Xbox sales seem to be doing just fine. The amount of people will to spend the amount of money required to get extra bells ,whistles and frames is tiny compared to the player base. Likewise most existing pc owners who have never owned a playstation won't get a ps5 either, but would buy some the games if available id guess.

Software and services is where the money is not hardware.

Its only a matter of time imo.

I am outraged. Outraged i tell you.

Lol it makes sense, the ps5 and series are essentially pc’s at this point with not a ton of custom hardware. I bet porting to pc isn’t too costly, and they probably make a lot of money from steam releases of god of war, and horizon.

I have given up hope for that tbh. they aren't even interested enough in the game to make a simple 60fps patch that is easy enough to produce that a single guy with a modded PS4 could do it...
I choose to think they're remastering instead, and that's also why we haven't seen the PC port yet.

Bloodborne on PC has to be #1 on so many people's wish lists.

It's nice to have the option of what I play on, while I do like the fact Microsoft give me any purchase on there store for the other platform if available, this is a great step for Sony plenty of PC players after those Ubisoft style products like Horizon.

They have known this for awhile they just needed the player base to adjust to the idea and do this gradually
Also more resources to push them out.

Going by some people say, the current PC ports are handled by tiny teams. I guess they could had just kept doing the same. Give a teams of less than 10 people each jobs do PC ports every half year.

Instead, they bought out Nixxes, even rebranded a PS for PC studio thing, and going by the charts have a shit load more games coming to PC. So for anyone in denial thinking PC ports will just keep being oldies spaced out every 9 months like Horizon and DG, it wont be. It's ramp up time.

As for people saying the PC games will all be oldies again. Maybe. But they could also be recent games like Returnal or day one GAAS. Who knows.

Also, if any new VR games are strictly PSVR2, that means the PS5 bar chart games can skew to PSVR2 games depending how many Astro Bots etc... they make. And the more they make it means more traditional games will go PC.

Yup. I remember VFX distinctly saying PS games going to PC were going to churn out years back.

I forget if it was before Horizon ZD PC was even announced or just after it launched. But either way, there was no PC focus by Sony at the time. Now, its flood gates open in IR slides talking about growth in gaming with PC and mobile and shit loads of games coming. And since then, Days Gone, GOW and UC4 are PC ports. And they bought Nixxes for PC support.

This information allows us to do some interesting analysis and has some interesting applications for reviewing sales estimates from PC third parties that track other data such as reviews and active players.

God of War:
https://steamdb.info/app/1593500/graphs/

Estimates:
956.8k - 2.63m based on reviews.
600k - 760k based on PlayTracker
2.00m - 5.00m based on SteamSpy

Sony Actual LTD Numbers: 971k
Sony Actual LTD Revenue: 26.2m
Estimated LTD Revenue per Unit: $26.98
---------------------------------------------------------------
Days Gone:
https://steamdb.info/app/1259420/graphs/

Estimates:
713.9k - 1.96m based on reviews.
900k - 1.10m based on PlayTracker
1.00m - 2.00m based on SteamSpy

Sony Actual LTD Numbers: 852k
Sony Actual LTD Revenue: 22.7m
Estimated LTD Revenue per Unit: $26.64
----------------------------------------------------------------
Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition
https://steamdb.info/app/1151640/graphs/

Estimates:
1.51m - 4.15m based on reviews.
1.60m - 1.80m based on PlayTracker
1.00m - 2.00m based on SteamSpy

Sony Actual LTD Numbers: 2.398m
Sony Actual LTD Revenue: 60m
Estimated LTD Revenue per Unit: $25.02

Per Unit Revenue on HZD about a dollar lower is because the game has been out longer and thus been through more sales cycles to bring down the average revenue per unit.

Still interesting to compared the estimates on SteamDB to the reality Sony has given us to let us know how far off some of the estimates can be and how accurate some can be and how the three estimates are right some places and wrong others.
- SteamSpy overestimating God of War by over 100%, Days Gone overestimated by about 20% and then HZD being underestimated by 20%.
- Playtracker underestimating God of War and HZD sales (both by nearly 20%), overestimating Days Gone Sales (again, by about 20%).
- However, each game fell within the estimate based on reviews, God of War just barely while HZD and Days Gone both comfortably fit within the reviews estimate.

Plus the people who want to stick the box in their TV cabinet, come home from a long day at work push the button on the controller and jump straight into a game with things working all for a decently lower price than what most PCs costs these days
Yeah I have a desk set-up, plus I work from home nowadays.

I have this IKEA desktop stand, but I'm not wheeling it around my living room, and faffing around with cables.

That so called 50% will turn into 75% or even maybe 100% if the games sell well on PC. Notice the release windows seem to be shortening as well. I still don’t think it’s a smart move especially if they do day one PC releases, but we’ll see what happens. Sure, there are some individuals that will never game on PC and prefer consoles, but there are some in between that will go with PC over a PS5 as well.

Just need TLOU to come to PC now that the floodgates are open. Then maybe we'll get TLOU2 which he was on about in 2020....

My 3080 is ready. Plays Matrix demo at 4k 40 fps while the PS5 struggles to run it at 1080p 30 fps. Thats a 4x pixel jump and 30% framerate jump. Who needs 100 tflops gpus.
4k dlss performance + better cpu optimization will put you at 60 FPS, no worries

4k+dlss performance looks hugely better than dynamic 1200-1300p with unreal engine 5 TSR. just a fact. 4K DLSS performance can still outmatch and outpace 4K FSR 2.0 quality in terms of image quality in Deathloop, even

do remember that ps5 is also bound by CPU, and a framerate locked to 30. it will probably end up achieve 1440p 30 FPS with TSR

SO, calm your horses. your 3080 is not 4 times powerful than ps5. ps5 is equivalent to 6600xt, and 3080 is only approximately 2 times faster than a 6600xt
Yeah, I dont think i will have issues running UE5 games at 60 fps one way or another. The Matrix demo is just poorly optimized like Alex pointed out.

The PS5 is probably capable of doing more than 1080p too but the CPU is holding it back like you said. Whats weird is that VG tech found 1404p pixel counts but DF and NX gamer swear by 1080p.

Regardless, the performance in this demo is at least 4x that of the PS5 and XSX and up to 6x if you count the framerate boost on top of the pixel boost. Thats just a fact. I know full well how powerful the 3080 is compared to the PS5 which typically offers 2080 levels of performance in AMD supported games. I have posted that bit of info like a million times already. However, in this particular UE5 demo, the difference is far larger due to the demo being CPU bound and my i7-11700k is not bottlenecking my GPU like the Zen 2 might be bottlenecking the PS5 GPU.

Because they think pc is the end all be all and can’t fathom the fact that people actually don’t really care about high fidelity settings and high frame rate, specially considering the investment required to achieve them right now.
Console gaming is fine for lots of people and these PC gamers have do learn to deal with it.

look, there are no bottlenecks. its a console, you can't brute force things. you literally make the games to run specifically based on the limitations of that hardware. ue5 city sample seems like a rushed attempt. you optimize things around the CPU. reduce LODs, shift the load to GPU with higher graphical fidelity settings. it is really easy to make use of the GPU power available through other means. it will also be possible to reduce the CPU boundness of the engine. it is how i make my unbalanced 2700x-3070 build more balanced around 4k and higher fidelity settings.

do remember that xbox one x has an rx 580-590 equivalent GPU with a freaking 2.2 ghz jaguar CPU. no one talks about bottlenecks, devs just optimize and code their games around that limitation. that limitation specifically came to be in the form of an 30 FPS limit for most of the games, but zen 2 should have no issues targeting 60 FPS with competent devs

i mean do you really expected them to introduce a hefty zen 3 cpu in those consoles? they're sold for dirt cheap prices. they have to cut corners. zen 2 is one of those corners. we should be thankful that they did not throw a 2.5 ghz 1st gen zen cpu there XD

BUT. l3 cache should've been higher. and it should've been monolithic (single CCX, single CCD). i think those cut corners were a bit aggresive.

its typically 1400-1440p, to my knowledge. can you share your sources about the 1080p/30 fps thing? you're most likely mistake the performance profile in the opening sequence which does not exists on PC

I am not sure why you are getting so defensive about this. All I did was mention how my PC was running the UE5 demo compared to the PS5 and why I am ready for PS5 games to come to my PC with a 3080. I understand the consoles cant be all powerful. They have budgets, in terms of power, thermals and cost and it's understandable why they might have skimped out on the CPU or GPU. I personally think the PS5 couldve had a bigger GPU but i doubt 2-3 extra tflops wouldve made a huge difference so whatever. I have consistently defended these consoles and called them the most powerful consoles released relative to launch.

But that doesnt change the fact that PCs are outperforming them way beyond the tflops/performance difference in the UE5 demo. It's a good thing for every single gamer because their $1,000 PCs will finally offer the price to performance ratio we had strayed away from in recent years. Even console gamers can now buy a PC if they cant find a PS5 and get double the framerate without sacrificing the graphics if thats what they want.

Just mentioning that the PS5 might be bottlenecked in one specific demo/engine by the CPU doesnt mean i am trashing the design or the console. You can read my post again, I didnt say a single bad thing about the PS5. Just stated a fact.
