Resident Evil 4 Remake, initially announced for next-gen only, will also come to PS4

Could be cross gen or current gen only, it has no factor in my desire to play.
Supply issue still exists with current gen consoles, so it's probably the biggest reason.

Guys the game will probably be running at 60fps on next gen, at dynamic 4k, or something like 1620p+. The current gen machines struggle running some last gen games at dynamic 4k/60 anyway.
This isnt really going to be a problem.
Honestly people need to get out of this idea that games are suddenly going to look like AVATAR when cross gen ends, because they wont.
Problem is that (1) publishers probably don't want cross-gen to end and (2) If you ignore the SSDs, PS5 and Xbox Series are just super powerful last gen consoles (still on x86 AMD) so as long as they don't do any radically different level design etc that absolutely needs those fast SSDs, they could conceivably keep going with cross-gen for many more years to come.

This is just me armchair engineering manager-ing it but surely developing for PS4 and PS5 simultaneously (again assuming you don't do any whacky SSD stuff beyond fast load times) is much easier than developing for PS3 and PS4 simultaneously because you're going x86 -> x86 as opposed to Cell processor ->x86.

It makes sense that publishers will keep putting out cross-gen games until the financial costs outweigh the benefits (ie so few people buy the PS4 version that it's not worth it, or some other publisher decides to go all in with current gen tech and then a video game tech "arms race" finally gets going).

Well, it`s an ancient game. No need for current gen exclusivity if all it takes to get it running on last gen is a graphics downgrade.
You understand that not every remake is TLoU Part1 remake right? An actual remake like FF7Remake would benefit greatly from a current gen only release. No, it is not just “a graphic downgrade” as this is not a RE4 remaster.

I couldn't watch the RE4 bit yet, do they give any details about changes? I'm guessing it will be quite changed from the originals like 2 and 3 Remake, based on the announcement trailer where all the dialogue seemed to be implying that. I quite like the RE8 shop stuff, perma-buffs from fishing and hunting little side things that meant re-exploring all areas was worthwhile, on top of the treasure/gold you got from going back + killing the extra minibosses.

I replayed 3 Remake and 8 like 15 times each because of that system among other things but with 2 Remake I didnt feel the drive to replay it as much because of having to go through the same motions over and over with no shortcuts and no extra inventory space to make avoid a bit of backtracking, like not having to plan ahead with the item box for picking up the grenade launcher in the sewers in 3R. I'd like to have that same drive from 4 Remake, doesn't have to be the same system, can be different, but I just want a fun power journey and shortcuts on replay (which I acknowledge is more difficult in 4 since its so linear, if you get an item early it would skip areas+encounters entirely which I wouldn't want) after that initial fun-in-different-way tense first and 2nd (Hardcore) run.

I'm still super excited if it doesn't have those things but I'm more likely to only beat it once or twice if its "the same" everytime you run through it, especially since its so long. Although I'm sure there will be things cut for pacing just like 2 and 3 Remake.

You will never escape crossgen.

Something is wrong with my brain, I read this as "You will never escape orgasm". Get Freud on the ghost-phone!

Being exclusive to current gen was never going to magically make it look better, it'll still have the super-fast loading and superior performance current gen games typically enjoy. The real worry is that they might cut content to fit the game on PS4, which based on interviews is potentially what happened with Village.

I mean I called it as soon as I saw the graphics. People were trying to tell me it looked next gen or that I didnt know so I shouldnt speculate. Im like Im using my eyes.

Time proves me right once again.
Or it could be they don't want to miss out on that 120 million install base. Just sayin🤔

The PS360 install base was almost 200 million by the time PS4 and X1 launched.

PS2, GC and Xbox were 200 million.

They all had no issues leaving those install bases behind. The only difference now is that the devs are lazy, risk averse and unambitious, and publishers are greedier.

We actually got around 2 years of cross gen games with XB1/PS4, and when cross gen was dropped its not like game graphics suddenly shot up levels.
Cross gen will def be a lot longer with this gen though compared to last.

In before true current gen games start coming out and they all run like dog shit...
Its actually a bit of irony that people have been championing 60fps this gen (rightly so as framerate should be no.1), but the fact next gen games are nearly all 60fps is the reason why cross gen is going to last as long as it is.
If we were getting 30fps Series/PS5 games, it would probably be a real struggle getting them ruinning on XB1/PS4 at a respectable quality.

Who cares?

People could literally play a PS5-only game, be blown away and praise the next-gen experience. Then, the game gets a previous generation port a year later, and they suddenly can only remember their experience as being completely unimpressive and dated.

They could make a PS4 version for any game released on PS5 or Series X from the entire gen. Hell, I'm sure they could do a PS3 or 360 version too if they were financial incentives to do so.

And that's good. Last 2 years was impossible to find a PS5 at a normal price and now when the waters started to calm down the fuckers raised the price 50€ so fuck them, gotta keep enjoying my PS4 till I can get one for a fair prize after 4 years of release.

That or a "slim version", that big as fuck brick doesn't fit into my livingroom furniture lol.
Oh of course, I'm only looking at this from my selfish perspective of a Series X and PS5 owner who wants to see my purchases promises take effect already.

It's good of course from a consumer stand point that more people can play these titles, especially with Sony stupidly raising prices in the middle of a cost of living crisis.

Reverse groomer.
Bruh. When will the ps4 just die already. It's like the ps2 all over again where publishers are still clinging onto it cuz of the huge user base
