I still don't believe it because online play is more popular than ever.

Let's say I'm a Gamepass subscriber and i don't like any games that's coming to Gamepass except Starfield and that's coming lets say holiday 2023 but i still have my online games like COD (that was purchased) and other online games that i can still play while waiting for Starfield so i keep Gold just for online play.

1. Why would i pay $20-25 or higher (After Gamepass price raise) a month when i can just wait until the month of Starfield's release when online is free? And Xbox gamers already have this mentality, thats why Gamepass Subs are lower than what Microsoft expected.

2. Why would Microsoft give up the profit from online when it does not benefit them?
They will need to incentivize Game Pass and continue to add more content. If you're a COD player waiting for Starfield and you can play both on Game Pass with online for less than it would cost to buy those games at retail, Game Pass starts to look a lot more enticing. This is exactly what they are hoping the acquisition will help them achieve.

I love seeing these games with gold each month. When you think they get to the bottom of the barrel they always come through showing it can go even lower

I think it is bs there are no series games and just bc titles for them only

It's not semantics. It's not free.
They are free if that's what MS calls them. Yes we know it's not really free, but that's what they are literally called. Me and many others are simply not uptight about it like you are.

They will most likely just cut the service and make gamepass the default at 15 dollars for online play, and gamepass ultimate 20
COD requires paid multiplayer on console. That would make COD on Xbox cost a minimum of 180 per year. Or would it be 240 per year?

That would be one of the most anti-consumer things that MS could do to its own customers, especially primarily COD players.

Microsoft always proudly showing how they are the pinnacle of treating their customers well!

What a great month for GwG!

I mean the other alternative is microsoft doing free online, which jeff grubb still insist is happening. That would be the most aggressive business move in console gaming ever, especially since they’re the ones who introduced it.

I am all for that. But it isn't happening. Last time that was predicted they tried to double the price (I think) before the backlash changed their mind. And now Phil is talking about price increases. No way they are going to buy COD and make the Xbox consumer pay less to play it every year than pre-purchase by dropping gold. I'll happily admit I was wrong if they change it, but the evidence isn't there to support the claim they intend to. We are more likely to see Sega finally get sold on Wednesday. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Sounds fair for MS. But I think the consumer would be better served if they didn't have to pay 180 per year for online access.

If they merge gold into base GPU like I said, they won't be paying $180 per year for online access.

Can you play them offline?

Original Xbox and 360 games that ever went up on GwG become your permanent purchases even if you let your Gold lapse.

Only One and Series games require you to keep your service running.

So if you have gold and you redeemed 360 games from whenever they started, if your gold lapses you will still own all those 360 games permanently.

Yes, but you can't play the 360 games offline last time I checked.

No you definitely can. The only exception is if you stick a 360 disc in the drive, it needs to download a formatted version of the game, but if its something you got from GwG or after the 1st-time download if you have a disc, it's playable offline.

Just tested Code Veronica X offline. Worked no issue.

But how when you can buy COD for $70 and play it for as long as you want?

What would you rather do as an Xbox consumer?

Option 1. Buy COD for $70? and pay zero dollars because online is free
Option 2. Pay $30 a month for Gamepass to play COD and wait for Starfield in 13 months losing $390

How does that benefit Microsoft? Making online free is losing $9.99 a month to that same customer ($130 for 13 months)

You mention content but with the content Xbox is releasing for Gamepass, the sub is still not going up. Free online would actually make it worst for Gamepass because of option 1.
