This holiday almost feels like a soft relaunch because they weren’t available the last two christmas seasons to most people.
Also, im sure it pays to show games at the biggest gaming event of the year lol

The study isn't about consoles only...that would be obvious.
I seriously can't imagine where this console could be at overall sales if Covid and all production issues never happened.

Sonys biggest competitor this gen has been getting enough chips/stock in stores. They would have probably sold twice the amount of consoles otherwise

I said it pre-launch and I maintain it, if they had produced 30 million units during the first FY they would've sold every single one of them without breaking a sweat.
Next FY they're rumored to be aiming for 30 million units, so it'll be interesting to see how things go there.

The "study" is based on Google Trends for the US. But the results are pretty much in line with what was last November NPD results. Also is based on individual states, so diferent states got diferent results.
When all US states combined the result came out as PS5 as the most searched product for x-mas, Switch the 2nd most searched, and iPad the 3rd most searched.

Who needs hope when we have facts. PS5 has been outselling xbox even when they raised prices whilst Microsoft did multiple sales on the series s. The demand for xbox is clearly nowhere near PS5.

Sony not launching a Series S equivalent was a blunder. Imagine where they would be had they produced twice the number of consoles they already have.
Sony has the mindshare. Casuals are buying PS by default. A PS5 lite version would also sell out.

When people are buying a $500 console (PS5 #1) over a $250 console (Series S #3), why would the $500 console need a $250 variant, only to create further complications for game developers for the entirety of the generation and decrease their own hardware revenue?
When looking at actual sales, how can you say this?
If Sony not launching a Series S type console was a mistake, Series consoles would be out selling PS5's.
They genius move was the console with no disc drive and the exact same specs. MS shoulda made a Series X DE.

Not really since production would be split between the PS5 and PS5 S. Not to mention we are talking about 2 different hardware designs as well.
What Sony did was design a console that they can easily mass produce and only need one production line. Numbers prove that it definitely wasn't a mistake for them.
Plus the PS5 design has other benefits as well. Such as Sonys ability to redesign it easily.
Nothing wrong with what Sony did with the PS5 and I definitely wouldn't call it a blunder given the numbers.

Based on your criteria it's an indisputable fact that Sony absolutely made a blunder by not making the PS5 look like an eraser.
The PS4 looked like an eraser, and had a higher sell through rate at this point last gen.
