I have this and Collisto Protocol both at launch in the backlog, but went and downloaded the OG 360 version on Xbox because I want to see where it began. Back then I didn't have the change to try it thanks to the GFC. I'm interested to see what a fresh perspective will bring to the story and characters etc, and what has change in the remake. Glad to hear its really satisfying though, more survival horror is a great thing.

Finished NG+ playthrough last night and all I have left to plat is the Impossible trophy. This is one of the GOAT-tier remakes, up there with RE2R, FFVIIR, Demon's Souls, CTR etc. Motive knocked it out of the park.

The lighting in this game is astonishing, pound for pound the best I've ever seen. There were multiple times where I just stopped moving my character to soak it all in. The changes Motive made are fantastic, everything fits and ultimately make for a more engaging experience. Having not played the original since it's original release I was often in situations where I said "is this new? I don't quite remember this..." while other stuff I remembered clear as day (space basketball ftw). It's a testament to Motive's understanding of the IP that all the changes made fit in so seamlessly.

I'd also like to highlight NG+. Normally I really don't care for NG+, I'd much rather have a lengthier adventure (if the quality is maintained) than a shorter one with "replay value". The fact is once you've beaten a game you've seen pretty much all their is to see, no more surprises, nothing is "new" anymore. The decision to make a new collectible available in NG+ that ultimately leads to a secret ending is the kind of thinking I'd like to see more devs employ. Having said that, the core gameplay in Dead Space is satisfying enough that even without this addition I would have played through a second time.

The final question is where do we go from here? I'd love to see Motive give the same treatment to Dead Space 2 which I think is an ever-so-slightly superior game (shout-out to the 🧿 scene, one of the most memorable in all of gaming). Following that a brand new entry would be fantastic, the devs have earned that trust, they understand what Dead Space is supposed to be. If we skip DP2 remake and go straight into a new game I'm good with that too, just give us more Dead Space, I'll be there day 1.

Does anyone here rock a 1070ti? I kinda wanna buy this but I have no idea how my gpu can handle this @1080p. I loved the original so much I probably played like 5+ times.

Does anyone dispose of the monster remains after finishing them off?
Like toss them off the ledge into a deeper area or try to destroy them with whatever environmental hazard available?
I wonder what your doctor would have to say about this.

Finished my first playthrough last night and will likely go for platinum on this. Loved every minute and can only dream that they do a Dead Space 2 remake and a fourthquel.

For me it's just like that. Once you've finished the game, New Game+ is just an appreciation run and then Impossible and all the extra achievements are there for the extra replay value if you really dig the game and are craving for more.

I think going directly into Dead Space 2 is a no brainer at this point. And after that bring new stuff and re-imagine all the shit they've done in DS3 that basically killed the franchise.

That's gonna be rough. I'm on a 2080 Super and at 1440p with DLSS performance I'm still on mostly med settings.

Maybe at 1080 with low settings?

I've beaten it on hard and I'm working on getting all the achievements now.

This is easily one of the best horror games this gen (actually, of all time srs). It even outdoes RE2make in a few areas. There is replay value (Phantom necromorphs and a new ending in new game plus, unlockable suits), but not much more than 2-3 runs. Replay value is further enhanced by the intensity director. Basically, the game has a system that makes each run through a section different. You could get exploding vents, different necromorph spawns, lights shutting off, monster sounds randomly, environmental stuff going off (sprinklers, showers, TVs, etc...). I watched a friend of mine play and he was getting railed by monsters in certain sections. It blew my mind when I ran through those same sections and got nothing but some sounds and flickering lights. The only negative to this is that it can make backtracking a bit of a pain, but that adds to the experience IMO. If you want that upgrade you have to go back for, you'll have to expend some resources.

My biggest plus is how interconnected the world is. It's like the RPD in RE2make, so you can now explore the Ishimura in its entirety and go back to the beginning whenever you want. There are plenty of reasons to explore and backtrack to previous areas too (unlockable doors via security access levels, side missions).

Every weapon is useful and has a badass secondary fire mode (changed from the original), and they are all fun af to use. I'm extremely partial to the ripper and plasma cutter though. Their upgrade tree's are also super expanded with multiple special upgrades you can discover by exploring the ship.

The boss fights and engineering puzzle sections are all improved on from the original, and there are a few new ones. The story has been expanded with a few new twists. Isaacs new voice acting is fantastic. There are a bunch of side quests that flesh out the story from the original and tie into the sequels. All of the characters from the original have more to say and do so they feel more three dimensional. There is no cut content from the original.

I could gush about this game all day. It is so good that it made the original obsolete. Only other horror game to do this is RE1make.

What weapons is everyone using? And are you sticking to two?

I plan to use the flamethrower as I never used it in the original.

With remake I used almost all them, even more so in my new game + run because I properly upgrade most of them. I notice in Remake you cant rely on Plasma cutter as much because you get less bullet for it compare to original game.

So far both Ripper and Flamethrower has been my favourite in Remake.

What framerate are you getting? I'm trying to get 4k60 on my 2080s with DLSS but probably dont want to play on low, will get it on ps5 instead if I cant get over 30fps, but its been hard finding benchmarks haha.

Gah, "low" is like a swear word to me. I guess I'll just wait until I upgrade this card. I'm surprised it has lasted this long! Most modern games have been running quite good. Cyberpunk seemed to be the first real roadblock.

I finished my first play through. It’s just as good as I remember it back on PS3. It takes me back to that console gen and what excelled at making a solid game at the time. So much atmosphere and environmental hazards. Overall I had a great time with it and will probably finish replaying DS2 sometime soon.

For like 3/4 of the time I used the Ripper and Plasma Cutter. I was using everything I had for the last quarter of the game. That flamethrower is something I used later on as well. It’s great for groups of enemies.

Impossible plasma cutter only run is done. One of the easiest games I played (y)
I really see no reason to use any other gun. The plasma cutter is enough for everything this game offers. It's op for its size and for what it does. All other weapons are just fluff.

Plasma cutter and flamethrower were my only weapons used for first run. New Game+ I plan on trying other weapons.

Edit: Um, so now when I launch this game it only runs in windowed mode for some reason? The in-game settings say it's full screen but it isn't......and I can't change any of the settings now to make it full screen. When I click the maximize button on the window, I still see the task bar and the window header. This is the only game that's doing this, all my other games are working fine.

I can't find any solutions online, anyone able to help me? The game is unplayable now. I reinstalled it, same result.

Edit2: Welp, after doing some digging on the EA forums it seems the game is prioritizing to run on my integrated graphics card instead of my main GPU - regardless of any settings in the NVIDIA control panel. I guess I'm just fucked for now.

Can't wait to see how this stacks up against RE4 for best remake of the year.
If in RE4 head shots dont work like in RE2 then thats an instant fail for me, that was awful!

Got to chapter 11 in Dead Space last night, what a game though! I dont think i've ever wanted to jump straight into a new game+ this quick for years!

I can't apparently stop playing and replaying this game.

Got the Platinum yesterday, and now at Chapter 8 of my fourth run. Performance PS5, with DS2 controls plus custom Zero G landing/rotate inputs.
I admit there are things here and there or characters that I prefer in the original, but overall this is probably the very best full Remake since REmake.

Made my first run on Hard because, like a fool, I thought Impossible was similar to DS2 with just one save istead of slot, so ended up after 20 hours with 40 plus Med packs and eighteen full plasma cutter magazines (only weapon I carried) in the safe storage alone. And I stopped at 18 because storage is really limited this time so I had to sell extras all the time.

Thing is, if you're a Dead Space veteran you know you can finish the whole game and kill basically every enemy without firing a single shot.
Just use Stasis in the first Chapter and stomp every Necro until it dies, and once obtained Kinesis you just use environmental assets, vent pieces or body parts.
Brutes are extremely easy, just use their exploding bombs against them and in closed spaces they could literally kill themselves with their own acid.

Resources are also extremely easy to exploit, after a few full magazines the game stops being generous so just put them in the stash and keep collecting. And same for Med packs, once you're in yellow just don't heal and enemies/loot will keep providing them, after you get three just put into stash and keep collecting.

Made my second run at Impossible, and then NG+ at Impossible to get the alternate ending, every log and fully upgrade everything.. but I missed two logs and realized you're then locked forever into this alternate ending.

So I started a new and definitive NG+ from the first Impossible save, never upgrading to the awful Level 6 suit, got every single log, won't collect a well hidden Marker Fragment in Chapter 8 to not get locked into the alternate ending, and thanks to the Hand Cannon (unearned because Impossible is a joke compared to DS2) and the insanely profitable Force Gun ammo I'm close to 1.500.000 credits now.

This game is my new Resident Evil 4, just wish it was more successful. Much, much more successful because I'm not sure sales met EA demands. And I need more Dead Space.
Heck, give me DLC's and even more Suits to purchase, I'll get it all.

P.S.

- Be careful to not end the game with full storage, or NG+ store will be broken.
- If you don't like Suit 6 but want the stats, equip the DS 2008 Legacy suit, quit the store, re-enter the store, unequip the suit but don't leave the store, buy the Level 6 Suit. It will look like Level 5 suit, but can be fully upgraded. It's a glitch though, so it might be fixed in time.
- Prototype Stasis Module is amazing.
- Venture Suit looks awesome.
- "Crimson Head" enemies in NG+ are absolutely brutal.

As an old school Dead Space guy, I am loving this remake.
I'm running 2 games, one following MajorSlack's kinesis heavy walkthrough (lots of fun but takes work).
And another one only focusing on upgrading the plasma cutter as early as possible.
The problem is, the game seems to know what I am doing and not giving me any plasma ammo.
I refuse to buy it at the store.
I wish there was an area you could farm it reliably.

You can farm reliably whatever you want in the entire game.
Only carry the Plasma Cutter and game will only give you plasma ammo. Once you get three full slots of ammo in the inventory, put them in storage. Game will flood you with them again. Rinse repeat.

I'm disappointed with the image quality in this game. Edges looks blurry even if I will use sharpening and downscaling (it doesnt matter if I will use TAA or FSR), and on top of that there's also this ugly pixel crawling on reflections (it reminds me low bitrate video). What's the point of using high quality assets and textures if you then blur all of that with crappy picture quality.

On my old PC (3770K @4.2GHz and GTX1080) I get 42-65fps (average is around 50fps) at 1440p FSR Quality + high settings and that's very playable on my 1440p VRR monitor. I can also play at 55-85fps (average 70fps) on my FULLHD TV at 1080p with FSR Quality. Stuttering isnt so bad as I thought, but it's there, so I hope they can fix it. Pefrormance is acceptable given how old my PC is but IMO this game should run even better given how average it looks (IMO PS4 games like Uncharted 4, RE3 remake, looks and runs better). Also it seems Nvidina is no longer optimising their drivers for pascal GPUs, because even GTX1660S is faster compared to my GTX1080 despite being 20% slower in other games.

Playing the game in NG+ and haven't unlocked / found whatever the f is it. Did any of you guys have it? WTF is it?

Also, they seriously need to consider adding more difficulty levels for NG+ above Hard, cuz Hard in NG+ is waaaaaay too easy. I'm not counting "Impossible" with permadeath.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
The original pitch by Glen Schofield, likely when it was called "Rancid Moon", was that the game would take place on a prison planet.
Something very familiar about this...🤔

If you're on an Impossible run and scared of the big fans in Chapter 12, you can completely bypass that section; there's a huge hole on one side of the elevator shaft, simply go inside and safely fly back to the surface from there.

Do you have the audio Log from Kendra "Replacing the Tram"?

Was the last one for me in Chapter 1, to get it you need to fail to block the auto-loader arm with Stasis.

On my first run in chapter 4, having great fun so far. Game is ever better than I remember and I was a huge fan even back then. I think I made a mistake starting on normal though, it seemed fine at first but after a few damage upgrades enemies kind of melt just by looking at them.

I never failed this sequence even in original game:messenger_grinning_smiling:

The more I play the game, the more I like it. The original game was a lot easier because there was an abundance of ammo and health packs everywhere, and not to mention necromorphs were easy to kill. In the remake it's very difficult to shoot off the limbs, so it takes a lot of ammo and health to fight a necromorph, and because the line gun is no longer available in the early stages of the game, so the necromorphs can easily overrun you.

The atmosphere of horror is also taken to a different level in the remake, because game is a lot darker and on top of that necromporphs can jump at you anytime, which makes the atmosphere more tense. Dynamic fog is also a contributor to the horror atmosphere, because sometimes you can barely see what's in front of you. This makes fighting the necromorphs much more terrifying. IMO people who are playing this game for the first time will be in need of a good dose of tranquillisers, and I'm not joking.

Fuck me.. Store is broken at the start of my "definitive NG++". I thought it was because of the full Storage, but this time I left more than enough space. It is because I ended it with Hand-Cannon as the only weapon in the Inventory?

But if so, nobody really finished the game three times on the same save and got the issue before?

Edit:

Well, reloading solved this. Still annoying bug though.

Yeah, there's a few of counter-intuitive, or even basically impossible to figure out without guides, Logs in the game.

I finished watching the playthrough of it on YouTube yesterday (on the MK Fire and Ice channel) and undoubtedly it is a great remake....I enjoyed seeing it from beginning to end...whether or not they remake Dead Space 2 is anyone's guess right now...but if they did I can't see it coming until the latter half of 2024....ultimately though they should bring a new entry into the series rather than re-treading the old plot....

I assume people already suspected this but its nice to have confirmation, disc version of the game (without patches) comes with unlocked framerate on quality mode (hangs around 40-45 fps is my guess) but im unsure of the state of VRS in this version.

Just at Chapter 11 and, I have to say, design-wise the game really shits the bed towards the back end. Spawning mobs out of thin air every time you reach objective, invincible stalker enemies, replacing bosses with running in circles and pushing buttons. Really feels like the ideas ran dry by the time you hit the Crew Quarters. Even the final hunter encounter is a retread of an earlier one (just with extra mobs). Big let down for an otherwise great game.

I agree that Hunters could've been done way better in Remake. I mean, it's okay the first time when you need to freeze it in a chamber, but then it's getting annoying af. They should've looked at RE2 (or The Callisto Protocol and what SDS did with Farris when it comes to encounters with him, how he retains his mind and thoughts, how he mutates into a monster over the course of the game etc.) for how to approach Hunter in the game and make a much bigger deal out of it, make it more smarter etc. etc. etc. But instead they've decided to go for much easier approach and... it's not great, to say the least. Hopefully they'll fix this for Dead Space 2 cuz it also has the same problem.

- Kinesis is your best friend, use it all the time in fact. Fans from vents can be used against enemies, lots of pointed objects in almost every room you can use. Then, use dead Necros blades as weapons. Carry all these things across rooms if necessary.
- You can use Stasis against 90% of enemies in the game and simply kill them by using stomp on them repeatedly (doesn't matter if they're standing).
- Only carry weapons you actually use, better to only carry just one as ammo are guaranteed then. Once built a stock of three (usually) ammo slots, game stops being generous, so put them in the Storage and keep collecting.
- Once you're hurt, like in the yellow, game will keep providing you with MedPacks until you either heal yourself or have three different MedPacks in the inventory. You can again put them in Storage for the future and keep collecting.
- If you're in the red, simply go back to main menu and reload, better not to risk. Save as much as you can, they are unlimited so why the hell not.
- You can skip the whole fans section in Chapter 12 by using a hole on one side of the elevator shaft to reach the surface again.

Didn't know the health pack thing, then again I wasn't really starving for health through HM run. Now ammo was another matter. I had to buy loads of it.

As for the first thing regarding sales. It was a ballache for me to get hold of DS. It was sold out everywhere around me so supply must of been crap.

Also, it was current gen only. I hope it's done well to remake 2, then do 3 from scratch. With no co-op shit. Or love triangle. Or it being an action packed bag of crap.

Probably still happening, I definitely think we're gonna get Dead Space 2 Remake.
And despite the hate The Callisto Protocol got and downplaying of the game, over 2 mil in one month isn't bad.
So if Dead Space Remake got close to that I see it as a win, the sales can only go up.

I never played the DS series, but will give this a try at some point.

I surely hope so, but wouldn't bet on it.

Dead Space 2 (60M budget) was not considered profitable with 4 million copies sold.. sure sales can go up, but this is EA we are talking about.

Trying to play Dead space 2 (Xbox360 version) after finishing the amazing Dead space 1 remake, and I can't get into it. Game plays exactly the same, but graphics look so dated compared with the remake that I'm having a hard time trying to enjoy it. I want a Dead Space 2 remake 😪
