omg yes, the difficulty spike is huge. First two rounds were easy but I tried the finale three times and got completely bodied.
Thank god it’s not just me then. The entire time I kept thinking that I was doing something wrong or forgot a gameplay mechanic or something.

Guess I will level up a bit more and come back later…

I'm creating my character. Quick question....

Can I change my appearance later on? I mean, if I put glasses on my character right now am I stuck wearing them for the rest of the game?
You can change your hair, scars, clothes, glasses all that pretty quickly after the game starts. You can also transmog everything or make it invisible from the get go. Making everything invis just let's you run around in 1800s Ahmish underwear tho.

Ran into the trans character and threw my copy in the trash and then set the trash can on fire.

....is what the bully activists think our reaction will be to the trans character. In actuality, s/he was handled quite well (so far at least), and it is truly baffling to me that they would label the game as transphobic when it's clearly anything but. Reminds me of their reaction to Cyberpunk 2077 - even when the devs bend over backward to show how supportive they are, it's never enough for these mentally-ill activists.

In any case, I'm enjoying the game quite a bit so far. Looking forward to diving in more later.

They specifically refer to her in the community as the token trans character that's only reason for existence in the game is to try and placate the LGBTQ++deluxenohassleplatinumcard community.

I mean their not wrong, its just funny that they ignore this fact in the titles they like and screech about it in this one because HP = JK and is therefore bad. Say what you like about Druckman but at least he had the balls to make Lev a major part of the story. This is your a typical "LOOK IM GAY" throwaway quest giver intended to literally tick a box.

There’s a side quest later basically devoted to showing how gosh darn great of a person she is in the eyes of the community. It’s on the verge of being a little much, but clearly they’re trying their best to differentiate from any authorial controversy. Not that any of it is enough for unhinged internet people and games journalists. Best to ignore them and enjoy the game though.

My fav part was after only speaking around ten words with them, your character immediately gushes about what an amazing person they where, looking forward to having that forced on my character again soon.

Not sure if it's the right choice but I ordered the ps5 version.
It was a bit more expensive than steam version but I would like to have the disc and dualsense support.
I am hoping performance is fine since I would for sure have better performance on pc

Just played up to the point where you leave the common room and have to go to Charms/DATDA classes. My first thoughts:

I'm really impressed with it so far! Avalanche have really gone to another level. It's insane how they went from Disney Infinity games and "Cars 3: Drive to Win" to this. This is on the level of something I'd expect from a more experienced studio. I know I'm basically at the beginning still but I mean on terms of presentation. The graphics are really good and it's definitely one of the best looking games I've seen. I don't have RTX on but the lighting is really well done but I am running it on Ultra settings. The background characters stick out with their basic animations and low quality faces but the main characters are all really good looking, have good facial/body animations, and voice acting. The cutscenes are beautiful too. That shot of the Hogwarts Express and the castle was awesome.

I wasn't sure about the 1890's setting. I wanted something more modern if you can call the late 90's, 00's, and the early to mid 10's "modern" but I quickly stopped giving a shit. I think it was the right choice for sure. During the tutorial area I like that they made it clear that Hogwarts is set in Scotland. I suppose any HP fan will know that but I'm proud to be Scottish and love that Hogwarts is here :)

When they got to Gringotts and the goblin called on the cart I had flashbacks to playing the PS1 game lol. After all these years the first thing I thought was oh god please don't make drive this thing! In the PS1 game of Philosopher's Stone you had to control the cart to collect coins and I always got stuck on it lol.

The combat feels good so far. Seems like it will be quite challenging as I learn more spells. I was struggling to get the timing right to cast the protego spell against the statues but maybe I'm just getting old and my reaction is slow lol.

Can't wait to jump back into it and explore Hogwarts.

How exactly did they handle this? Is it someone who‘s obviously a dude, but wearing girl‘s clothing, with a deep voice and everything, or is it someone would could ‚pass‘ as a girl if you didn’t know he was supposed to be ‚trans‘? Or is it the other way around, and it‘s a girl in boy‘s clothing? Is his/her ‚condition‘ even brought up in the game? Or does everyone in the game just pretend nothing unusual is going on with that character?

I am not at that point in the game yet but from the screenshot I saw she looks like a women, at least to me, and apparently she has a deep voice. I don't know how deep it is though and it's not strange for women to have deep voices. I love girls with deep voices lol.

edit: here are some screenshots. you decide if she passes or not.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any game (except Cyberpunk 2077 ironically) that I've played where there is a transgender character.

They (Ree/Twitter etc) should be celebrating this but oh no fuck that. They pretend to fight for representation, fairness, equality, justice, etc but they really don't give a shit about that. If I was a transgender person I'd be so fucking happy right now to see a transgender character in a game I'm playing.

I have her learning the controller right now. Hogwarts after dinner. She’s only used to switch.

Edit: Not gonna lie. Seeing my two autistic daughters having fun together right now brought some tears to my eyes.
That’s incredibly heartwarming!
I am playing it now dude. Game is solid. They look like different studio.
No they don’t. They always made great games, they just happened to be movie tie ins and the like. Toy Story 3 was a fantastic game, but adults never played it.

Its not so much a deep voice but a very bad voice actor who is obviously male talking normally while sighing every other word... I assume their one of the staff rather than someone they hired.

Apparently the new Twitter conspiracy theory is that the reviewers were all bribed into reviewing this well or threatened to never get a code again. Kinda weird now that we can all play the game ourselves and it's actually just as great as reviews were saying 😂

Well, if I didn’t know anything I would just say that‘s an ugly girl lol. But upon closer inspection, the jawline and protruding bones beneath the eyebrows give it away, especially in the second picture. And I hope the voice is Bonnie Tyler deep, not Joe Cocker deep, if you know what I mean lol.

But the very idea of a person recognizable as ‚trans‘ in the wizarding world is a bit ridiculous if you ask me. Am I supposed to believe that there doesn’t exist any potion or spell that transforms a person into their opposite sex? I mean Polyjuice Potion exists, and people can transform into animals, but the opposite sex is too difficult? They can’t even use magic to make their voice sound more feminine, or change their bone structure a bit? Sounds kinda contrived.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but you should just sell any equipment you aren't wearing. It goes into your collection for transmog purposes, so there is no reason to keep it. Makes the tiny inventory less shitty, too.
Also always do the Merlin’s trials to get a bit more inventory space at least…

Despite the controversy on Twitter I do see that the overall majority on that platform is posting their opinion and likes about the game they are playing.

I have not seen such a huge popularity on Twitter since the release of BOTW. I guess Warner Bros looking to venture further into the movie franchise is a damn good choice.

Yup, in the fifth movie they're explained at the beginning.
Man, I gotta do homework?

I’m quoting myself. To give an impression. My daughter was getting frustrated that the confirm and cancel face buttons were opposite than what she’s used to on the switch. I had to break it to her that Nintendo is the only one that’s opposite. I did think about changing it in the menu, but I’d rather she adapt. Especially if she’s gonna play more of my titles on the PS5.

Doing my first wetwork at night, killing goblins and poachers. Serious Corinthian vibes from The Sandman.

Oh christ I just realised, those white chests with the eyes... you can open them as soon as you learn invisibility... they lock themselves when they notice you.

I thought it would be something you learn later but it was so bloody obvious, just go invisible. Solves all my money issues iv had since now, they literally contain 500 gold every chest.

Filthy casual to the Harry Potter universe here - have some basic knowledge of the movies but not much in depth beyond that. But I'm really liking what I've been playing so far.

This game so far feels like it goes against the trend of modern game writing - which is a good thing as I've felt like I've been sitting through a near nonstop barrage of cringe dialogue written by writers effectively trying out for Marvel Studios this past year or so.

The devs here are obviously aware of the strengths of license behind it, the premise of the game, and what fans really want out of this - and they've so far done an astonishing job delivering on the goods. These days far too many showrunners and handlers of high profile properties are determined to go against fans and the canon.

On a PS5 at least, in fidelity mode the characters look generations ahead of a certain high profile open world magic Square Enix game I've spent too much time dunking on - though I'm actually going through that game slowly as well. That other open world magic game absolutely loves cutscenes, but yet seemingly lacks a cinematographer or editor as some of their cutscenes are literally two characters standing next to each other in a wide shot moving their lips at each other. Hogwarts bringing the camera close and somewhat in line with golden age BioWare games makes the game feel like those classic BioWare games.

I thought this might be this generation's Shadow of Mordor - but it may actually be closer to this generation's Batman Arkham games, assuming the rest of game is like the opening bits I've played so far.

I get not trusting them because they've never done the "big" AAA game but they've always been good. Disney Infinitely was great for what it was going for.

Yeah, Kinda Funny 100% started this shit when they didn't get a key. Then they went in about how the review score is only that high because WB fudged the score by giving keys to only friendly outlets. They're pathetic.

First it was paid reviewers, then it's "mobile game made by shovelware developer". The latest is attacking the number of spells you get, which according to people I've talked to who know the IP, seems to be in line with the series.

The fact is, they all expected this big win. They thought the game would be trash. They spend too much time on Twitter and thought their boycott mattered. Basically they're scrambling and flinging shit at the wall trying to get some to stick because their entire worldview and expectation about this game, and their influence over it, is shattered and they can't handle it.
Also always do the Merlin’s trials to get a bit more inventory space at least…
Oh cool, haven't gotten there yet. Good to know.

Honestly the setting feels pretty much identical to the books and movies, even if it takes place 100 years in the past. In fact, only by having a completely different roster of teachers and staff do you know this takes place in a different era.

I saw on Reddit that apparently there are restrictions on what kind of name you can give your character. If you try to name him Adolf Hitler for example, it explicitly says the name contains restricted words. You also can’t use names that contain the word ‚anus‘, and supposedly that means that for example a common Polish name like ‚Janusz‘ can’t be used lol. Can anyone here confirm? Because the idea of restricting character names in a single player game is absurd. I can’t believe we’re at the point where we aren’t even allowed to give our characters outrageous dipshit names in the privacy of our own homes anymore.

is it really that hard to imagine that the Devs dont want morons streaming their game with their character called Adolf Hitler McCuntFace?? i think the 6 of you outraged over the loss of rights to name your character in a single player game had been taken into account and ignored

Giving your character a ridiculous name in games where we can choose to do so is a hallowed tradition going back many decades. Don’t tell me you’ve never named any of your characters Dickface or Gaylord?

it's been a while since I last yelled at a game for not being able to pause during cutscenes.

What a weird omission.
Super weird omission. It stood out right away to me when I was playing. Bet they patch that option in since it's on so many games
My only gripe is that the male VA for my character sounds like a robot at times, in cutscenes it's fine but it's when you just have the normal dialogue.
Noticed that on the opening screen. I choose a woman's voice and some of the pitch options did sound like a robot. The voice adjustments they did with the pitch are jarring some times. I picked the middle pitch and it hasn't been too bad

Ive had clipping and one bug where prof Weasley got stuck in a wall. Just restarted it from 2 minutes before so not an issue.

The lighting keeps changing from warm to cool in the cut scenes. Close up it is warm coloring then when it zooms out slightly on the character they become paler. Just a little distracting, not bad
