How long do you think it will be until game pass is on PlayStation?

I mean the writing is on the wall with the Nintendo deal and where Microsoft wants to take the Xbox gamepass brand. How long do you think it will take for Sony to bite the bullet?

I think Sony needs to stop being anti-gamer and let PlayStation users have the option to have it.

No it isn't. It really isn't. If you think limited time posturing by multinationals is a signal for where the industry is headed. . .I dunno mate.

. . .all these hot take shower-thoughts today.

I don’t see why Nintendo or Sony would ever allow GamePass on their systems. They make loads of money from people buying the PlayStation/Nintendo version of the 3rd party titles that are on GamePass. Even if they’d get a small cut of each subscriber I doubt it’d even come close.

Never, I hope.

The Xbox might not be doing as well as it could, but its an alternative to what Sony offers and if nothing else forces them to compete. Game Pass arriving on PlayStation would more or less mark Xbox leaving the hardware business and tbh I don't want to an industry where the only high-end console player is Sony. We know what happens in an industry that is devoid of competition. Everyone will lose.

It is only a matter of time. Sony screwed itself over with its own hands by producing only triple A titles, one more equal than the other. They don't know how to create an exclusive that isn't heavily focused on the story and third person. The fact is that having built your success on these foundations, it forces you to maintain it, as long as the market supports you. But when the whole market starts to veer elsewhere, so with subscription services, sooner or later you too will be affected and you will have to revisit the way you offer your first party productions. Playstation exclusives lack originality, they never take risks, they don't want uncertainties of any kind. They have always been the same since 2009. Uncharted 2 was a triumph, but I think that in the long term there will be critical issues regarding the sustainability of their productions. I mean, PS6 exclusives could cost as much as $200-300 million each. With these terms how can you risk? This is what the end of Playstation will look like. Xbox won't beat them. They will die by their own hands.

The way things are just now I think a lot of people would be happy if MS fucked off.

Competition is good. Too many people are stuck in their fanboy wars.

It would be a shame if MS abandoned the console hardware market. Sony would be left unchecked. You think they are bad now then it would be nothing in comparison to them having complete control and freedom.

I think the bolded is true if you only are going by what people on places like GAF and other turbo nerd forums are saying, but in my experience us turbo nerds don't really represent the mass opinion of the industry. People just want to play good games and will buy whatever box has them, or both if both has them, etc.

Why? Outside of Xbox exclusives, what does Gamepass have that PlayStation needs?

They could sign the same deal with EA and Ubisoft to get their service on PlayStation if they wanted to.

I’m pretty sure revenue from PS+ is higher than Live and Gamepass.

Sony is fine.

Ok but they have an ea service and also the service could be for exclusive Microsoft content.
Gamepass for Microsoft published games I can see them allowing some day - there is no reason not to. That said, Microsoft would make way more money actually selling their games on Playstation than via Gamepass, so I'm not sure why they would even want to do that.

Gamepass for all games would never happen because there is no incentive for Sony to do so at all.

I see your point but it’s not really the same. EA is a partner and bring a lot to the table with FIFA and Madden. That gives them bargaining power. As long as Microsoft is a direct competitor in the console space they will not allow Game Pass on their platform. Phil has tried and failed already. Nintendo won’t even play ball with that. Either bring individual games to the platform as a third party or fuck off.

It wouldn’t be a store front though you would be subscribed to gamepass and be able to play your games on any platform.
It’s absolutely a storefront. You stream a game from Gamepass instead of getting it from PSN. You’d then buy all DLCs through Gamepass instead of PSN and Microsoft gets a cut of that purchase instead of Sony.

This makes no financial sense.

Gamepass will only ever be on PlayStation if Microsoft quit the console market and focus on a software only approach. I just can’t see that happening any time soon if ever at all.

PS6 at the minimum. Then it will depends on Sony and Microsoft positions at the time. If Xbox die this generation(impossible but I said "if") I can see Gamepass in Playstation if Xbox goes third party like Sega did. If Sony loses the cloud battle with Microsoft and see PS+ becoming irrelevant they will have no choice than to accept. But that is impossible too. If we are like in this generation, with Sony on top or at least equal to Xbox they have no reason to accept.

Sony would love for Gamepass to be on Playstation. But it would have to be at Sony advantage. Microsoft naturally do not want to have Gamepass on Sony consoles if Sony makes more money than themselves with it. Like Epic wanted to escape Apple tax with Fortnite.

I think Microsoft does want gamepass on there and the only thing that’s stopping them is Sony. Microsoft has said that they want there games on every platform. Sony is playing hard to get because they don’t want a Microsoft service on their console.

i do agree. thought it was obvious i meant the "hardcore" gaming community. it's pathetic that anyone would want to see less competition just so their favourite billion $ company could make more money.

0% I imagine
I dont see them even allowing access to gamepass through app store in Sony TVs let alone Playstation.
The only way you can access gamepass in Sonys ecosystem is by plugging an xbox into their Bravia TVs or using xcloud on their Xperia phones and i dont see that changing, hell i wouldnt even allow that if i were them unless there was some legal obligation.
