If new Bungie IP's under Sony's watch don't come to Xbox (the one after their next NetEase game), then I would simply say "told you guys so", no first party has any obligation to put out games on rival platforms. Unless a project was specifically announced for a rival platform before the studios acquisition (eg Deathloop/Ghostwire) those are different cases, but other than that there is no obligation for Bungie to make future games under Sony publishing for Xbox, or for Bethesda to make for Sony platforms now.

Correct. Cause the next game they're working on is most likely with NetEase, whom they've partnered with for it since 2018. So this is very likely a big mobile-first project.

Anything new beyond that, that is made directly under Sony's ownership, is not guaranteed to come to any other consoles unless officially announced.
No, based on the information Bungie has put out, they have full control over where they publish and have acknowledged that they will release all their games on all platforms that are capable of running them.

I understand that nothing is set in stone, so if anything changes in the future, that is an entirely different thing altogether, dictated by whatever the business strategy is at that time. But as of right now, based on what they have said on their website, all current and future titles by Bungie won't be PS only.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

The information in their one page blog is vague and not too dissimilar to the "on a case by case basis" just in so many more words.

Unless a project is announced for other platforms, it's nothing but speculation on all of our parts.

That's fine and I agree. There is nothing wrong with the fact that Microsoft wanted Bethesda's games exclusive to Xbox. Prior to acquisition, Bethesda was fully a multiplatform publisher/developer and now we know for fact that Xbox exclusivity wasn't ever a consideration prior to acquisition. I don't understand this need to keep creating fairy tale narratives to white knight Microsoft for something that doesn't need a white knight.

Xbox fans will be saying the exact same thing if Bungie's new ip is PS only, but that's too bad just the way it works.
Bungie bought their freedom from Microsoft because they wanted to make multiplatform games, and Microsoft wanted them to stick with Xbox exclusivity. Their next IP will be multiplatform.

"The developer behind Destiny is now a part of the Sony universe. Sony Interactive Entertainment officially closed on a $3.6 billion deal today to buy the independent game studio and publisher Bungie, according to tweets from both Bungie and PlayStation Studios. Under the terms of the acquisition, Bungie will still maintain creative control over its operations and independently develop its games. As leaders from both companies have noted since the deal was announced in January, Bungie will be considered an independent subsidiary of Sony and won’t be required to make either current or future games exclusive to PlayStation consoles."

Like I said a page or two ago, it really doesn't matter anymore whether there ever was a version of Starfield ever put on a PS5 devkit. That ship has long since sailed now. Zenimax was acquired 2 years ago, we should collectively move on from that boat now. And that case is not worth correlating with what's going on with CoD right now at all as they've made specific guarantees and assurances about CoD's continued existence on multiple platforms by name, including signing agreements (which are only performative for now) with multiple other platforms.

Yeah, it isn't worth debating. The regulators are going to make their own judgments. Don't think they are checking here for answers.

Nothing except being in the majority is apparently better. And.....um.....Murica.

But no, nothing new.

You mean like stella blade lol. People have a good double standard. Cry about Starfield but celebrate when Sony takes away yet another game.

this why these bullshit arguments are so pathetic.

Phil doing interviews is just fuel to the fire..

I can see why you are saying that; however, the key difference, I believe, is that this is being stated by Bungie, whereas Bethesda has not said anything similar. Microsoft seems to have full control over where content will be released for Bethesda. The deals' goals were different, and I believe we should acknowledge that.

Seems like a pretty simple solution for MS to have done this if they were being authentic about exclusivity with ActiBlizz

You realize that if you call that a "double standard" then you are effectively saying Microsoft took away Starfield from PlayStation. Double standards work two ways.

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

During a recent Xbox On interview, Spencer was asked if Microsoft intends to offer Xbox players any exclusive content if its $69 billion acquisition of Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard is approved by regulators.

“When we say available everywhere or not exclusive, we want to make absolutely the best version of Call of Duty for any player on any of those platforms”, he said.

“I sit here today with a great game that’s come out in the last couple of weeks, Hogwarts Legacy. And yes, there is a quest that’s available on PlayStation, it’s not available on Xbox as part of that, and I know this is part of the industry,” Spencer continued.

“That’s not the game we’re trying to play here either. It’s not about a skin on a gun. It’s not about a certain kind of mode of the game. The same version of the game will be available on all platforms, which is really what we do today.

“Like if you’re a Minecraft player on PlayStation, I don’t think you feel like you have the lesser version of Minecraft or Minecraft Dungeons or Legends, which is coming out when it ships.

“We want to make sure those players feel like they have a great experience on the platform they choose to play on.”

Stellar Blade's original announcement was for 8th-gen platforms. The team dropped ALL 8th-gen platforms. As they were retargeting 9th-gen, Sony saw an opportunity to help the team out, fund their growth and development and provide technical assistance. They even offered to publish the game for them in multiple regions (presumably global).

Nothing stopped Microsoft from doing similar other than complete disinterest. Show me where Starfield was targeting XBO & PS4 before getting cancelled, otherwise these aren't the same situation.

And even I think a lot of folks super-upset over Starfield being console-exclusive to Xbox are petty. Doesn't change the fact there was a PS version in development that suddenly ceased development when MS acquired Zenimax. That's an event that factually happened, Pete Hines himself more or less said it.

Hard to know when the exclusivity game matters

Apparently it didn’t matter initially with Bethesda when he said he had no intent on fracturing any communities for their games…

Until it did
Day 1 of the announcement:
With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players.
There was never any doubt that new games would be exclusive.
