I've just eaten eight McVities Digestives with a coffee and that's 568 calories... thank you very much Mcvities :lollipop_angry_face:

I'll call it a NeoGAF joining celebration and not worry about how much excercise I need to do to burn them off 🥳
better be a chocolate one or you're getting banned! :messenger_tears_of_joy: jk

I'm thinking about becoming left handed.

My elbow (right) hurts :messenger_tears_of_joy: and it has been for months. At first I put it down to my job which is physical and requires heavy lifting and of course I am right handed so I use it for everything. I think I have a bit of arthiritis in my legs and a lot of m yfamily have it so I guess it 's arthristis of the elbow.

the last time i was off work maybe in December i thought alright i'll rest for a week and it'll go away and it did for a while but now it's back and with a vengeance. maybe it's like a shitty super power to let me know that i need to take a break from work.

the whole point of this stupid post is that i'm too scared to go to the doctors because of course my mind immediately thinks bone cancer! so instead of going to the doctor and possibly diagnosing and treating cancer i'd rather just use my fucking left hand for everything. If the right arm is fucked then they can just chopped the bastard off and I can use my left arm. I'm about half way through my life so if I got a good 30+ years out of my right arm then my left arm should be good for the remainder of my life!

edit: how is it that one arm isn't bigger than the other? i know people can be ambidexterous but most people can only use one hand/arm. so how come we don't all have one big right arm and one tiny left arm? yeah we still use our weak hand for stuff so muscles are being used but if we have a dominating hand then why isn't it bigger?

It could be false memory, but I feel like there are significantly more young people who vape today than there were young smokers back in 90s/00s.

Tried googling it but couldn't find anything (because I'm an idiot).

Anecdotally, I agree.
I just don't see that many young people smoking now days like it's cool.

Perhaps that's a good thing. It's not carcinogenic like cigarettes, right? Or is it?

I believe so, but I'm mainly wondering about percentages of young smokers now vs 20 years ago (whether it was cigs or e-cigs).

It's almost like there is an epidemic of youth smoking. I even see teens vaping out in the open.

But yeah, at least they're not smoking old fashioned cigs.

Not surprised there's smoking out in the open because a lot (or maybe even most) of folks probably react similar to the way I did -- "well, at least they're not smoking real cigarettes." But probably in 20 or so years (maybe less) we'll all come to learn that this stuff's got all kinds of chemicals toxic to the body in other ways. Might see yet another increase in mental issues. Who knows...

As for the increase, I haven't seen it myself. Of course, I live in a small city. Perhaps it's more prevalent in larger cities where lifestyles are more hectic. Perhaps check Youtube. They might have some content that discusses it.

holy shit i was panicking there! loaded up Hogwarts Legacy and the game started flickering like crazy. thought it was the game bugging out so quit the game. the desktop is flickering too! shiiit. reboot the PC....nope still flickering!

thought my 4080 was dying and i'd have to get it replaced :messenger_loudly_crying: i was actually almost in tears lol. turns out it was a loose displayport cable. my kitten keeps jumping onto my desk and playing with the wires. that cat is going to be the death of me :messenger_tears_of_joy:

You know how you can make your brain trick itself that a song is playing slightly faster or slower? Like you would hear the tempo somewhat change (a very tiny change)?

What is this phenomena called?

I've not tried this or even heard of it. But songs sound much faster if I hear them right after waking up. So maybe it has something to do with the amount of focus/brain processing you're assigning to it.

Also, you ever look at an analog clock and you could swear the second-hand hanged for like 3 seconds. Sus af matrix shit

Maybe subjective rhythmisation?

Is the effect intended by the artist or just something that happens due to outside factors?

That’s an interesting read. But the effect is not intended by the artist, it’s all me.

I get mild migraine auras occasionally, so I wonder if that same part of the brain has something to do with this.

Yeah, perhaps. I don't experience this with music as you describe. I am aware of how the artist may intend for the effect. I absolutely believe it could happen and could be tied to migraines.

The only time I experience time perception changes are when I'm on mind altering chemicals like caffeine. I've read that smokers tend to see time as passing quicker when they want but can't have a cigarette. For example, if you tell a smoker they can have a cigarette in 5 mins, they will believe 5 mins have passed much sooner than in reality. Obviously, no clocks are involved as that would ruin the experiment. I can't find the study off-hand though. Cravings across all addictions would do the same I imagine.

put in my time off work so planning what travels i want to go on :messenger_smiling_with_eyes: over the next couple months i have a full week and want to try get as much done in that week as possible but if not i have a couple long weekends so can do stuff then.

going to start off in Edinburgh. been there before a few times but might revisit the castle and go to Rockstar North studio and see if anything's happening there :messenger_tears_of_joy: Despite being to edinburgh before i've never really visited any of the Harry Potter related places so I wanna check out the cafe JK Rowling used to write the books in, visit "Diagon Alley", and "Voldemorts grave". From Edinburgh i'll drive over the Forth Road Bridge and up to Perth before heading west. On the way to Fort William I might see if I can find "Skyfall" from that Bond movie. I'll head to Glenfinnan so I can "visit Hogwarts" lol.

After that I'd love to visit the isle of Skye but I don't know about that yet. Then I'd go up past Loch Ness to Inverness and get a hotel. From Inverness I want to either drive to Ullapool or up to either Thurso or John o'Groats.

Once I'm done with Scotland I want to go to Liverpool, Oxford, and London. I want to visit Liverpool because of The Beatles. In Oxford I want to visit places from the His Dark Materials books like the college/university buildings, Jericho, The Trout Inn and the place I really want to go to most is the Botanic Gardens. In London I don't really know what I want to do but I definitely want to go to the Harry Potter studio tour!

I also want to go to Paris but might leave that to around July time.

does "door to door" or "On the street" sales actually work or is it a shitty job you take if you can't get anything better?

maybe it's because i'm an introvert but the thought of standing around in the street or going up to someones house and asking people to sign up to broadband or a charity seems absolutely fucking insane to me. i get if it worked 20-30+ years ago but it's 2023.... how is this still happening? do people actually make a living off this shit or is it just a side gig?

you actually couldn't pay me to do this shit and even if i was so desperate i think i'd rather just suffer than have to convince people to sign up for shit they don't really want.

There is this awful horrible smell in my house...like so bad I want to be sick and I'm getting a sore head. It's one of the most vile smells I've ever smelled!

I thought it was maybe my breath :messenger_tears_of_joy: I just woke up and I know I can get bad breath but it's not that. I cupped my hands over my mouth and nose but my breath is fine. I used some mouth wash but it's still there. I pulled my bed covers over my head which helped block it out so it ain't me that stinks. The smell wasn't here when I was going to sleep. It woke me up.

I've opened my bedroom window to get some fresh air in and I've put some menthol rub on my nostrils but I could still smell it! That was about half an hour ago but now it seems to be going away thank fuck!

It's not like a shitty disgusting smell like poop, body odour, feet, etc. At first I thought bleach but I like bleach smells! It's definitely a chemical smell and it's kind of "sweet". I know it sounds strange but it also reminds me of death. When someone in my family died, after the funeral I had a similar smell I couldn't get rid of. What keeps coming to my mind when trying to describe it is dying flowers.
