Redfall is launching on Xbox consoles with Quality mode only (4K30FPS) - 60fps to be patched in at some future point

Oh c'mon mate.

If you look at the preview footage shown on IGN's channel, and you see a First Party First-Person Shooter being played with a controller, your first, and most reasonable assumption would probably be "They're playing the Xbox version". It's nothing less than misleading to not clarify that it's not actually the Xbox version when there are major discrepancies between the two versions.
Oh c'mon mate.

You're moving the goalposts, first you were concerned about press being handed a controller and being led to believe that the game was running on consoles.

All multiformat games show the highest fidelity footage they can and when they're running on consoles will have "captured on..." If you don't see that, everyone knows it's pc.

It's ok to criticise sometimes but this is not a Redfall problem, this is how it works with every game.

I would just add. That 60fps is a legit concern for me. No fault of anyone but this game is obviously being pushed out to hit first half of 2023...

..now, all I would say...is if I was Bethesda and MS, making that decision...if I was MS I would send ninjas from the coalition to go and grind to get this to 60 fps for launch.

But, I have no idea about development and not sure if this is a legit possibility.

Anyway, carry on.

Please look up what the term "Moving the goalposts" means, because it doesn't mean what you think it means.

The phrase "Captured on.." is typically used in game trailers made and released by the publisher/developer of the game. It is not typically shown in preview footage captured by external press/outlets, in this example IGN.

Saying that "Everyone knows it's a PC' is downright wrong and incorrect. How is a typical consumer, who is just looking at a gameplay preview by IGN, supposed to guess that's it's actually not the Xbox version and that the version he will play won't play the same way?

I'll pile on, because why not? It's 2023 and these new consoles and TVs were designed to give us more options regarding how to play. I barely wanted to play the game as it was (it would've been a Game Pass curiosity download), and this has killed all interest for now. Maybe I'll check it out in a few months once they've gotten their shit together.

If they can not get this to 60fps at release, they should at least provide a 40fps mode for those with 120Hz-TVs.

Plaque Tale 2 did this iirc.

Just an unlocked frame rate with reduced resolution would be enough.

Drop Series S to 1080p(X to 1440p) and unlock the frame rate. Let VRR take care of the rest.

It's very interesting how I had some good interest but they've lots bit by bit as we've gone long. It's disappointing to have limited options on console.

Why didn't they give an ETA for the 60 FPS patch release? It would have helped avoiding the shitstorm if their communication was more transparent. Did they really expect people to be perfectly fine after their "sorry guys, only 30 FPS for now" tweet?

The scummy part about this is that all previews (and thus preview released footage) is actually done on PC, but Press is given Xbox controllers so that the footage makes it looks like it's being played on Xbox consoles.

That IGN footage ran at 60 FPS while clearly showing Xbox controller promts.

This kind of BS is worse than Bullshots.
Not half as scummy as a trolling post.

For years PC games have been shown off and played with an XBox controller

Some people might be ok with 30 fps.

Not to mention, look at this thread 18 pages in blink of an eye. Mostly complaints from people who don't plan to play Redfall.

I wouldn't blame them for being a little defensive.
Why do they have to defend anything? People can talk about anything they want to, you don’t need a license to talk about Xbox games. People can hate on Nintendo, Sony, Bethesda Game Studios, whatever they like - I’m not going to spend my time astroturfing telling them they are wrong.

Yeah sorry the state this game is launching in is pretty inexcusable to me. I don't give a shit about the 30FPS/60FPS discussion, but I've also read that in co-op, only the game host gets the game progressions and the 'guest' doesn't.
For a game is that focused on co-op, how could they accept this?

The crowd that prefers cinematic 30 fps is suspiciously absent in this thread. I have some suspicions why.

Halo 1-3 were once considered the best competitive arena shooters on consoles with a vast MLG/pro community, and no one complained back then that it was 30fps.
The fact that 60fps is better doesn't mean that 30fps is bad.

"From a development side, I like the ability to focus...and have help from them - the top engineers at Xbox, to say 'we are going to make this look incredible on the new systems', is like from my standpoint, it's just awesome."

Not awesome enough for 60fps tho
Thanks for the source. I don’t see him saying it’s great that they don’t have to focus on ps5. Just less platforms to have to work on takes less time.

This makes no sense, what is a 'low effort environment' in your opinion? Is it letting a developer delay a game to their requirement instead of pushing it out much earlier when its nowhere near feature/content complete? Is that what you're calling a low effort environment ?
Or ... forcing the developer to release the game in May when it's clearly not ready and needs more time? As devs are delaying 60 FPS Performance Mode and Online-Only things for post-launch? 🤔

How many other current-gen games can you list that used Xbox prompts in preview footage and that ran on PC at 60 fps while the console version was locked to only 30 fps?
You're just sh8t stirring. Plenty of games have been shown off with an XBox Pad and XBox button prompts, while the game is running on a PC case in point when SEGA was showing off a playable version of Sonic Frontiers at Excel
Don't try and be a clever dick either and hide behind the 30 FPS load of crap either, because that's pathetic

Showing 1st party games on PC and having hands on sessions on PC is Cyberpunk levels of hiding shit.

Totally agree, I wish you would tell the people in the god of war and horizon threads about astroturfing i mean trying to convince people with legit concerns / negatives about games that their opinion is wrong.

I don’t think I’ve ever been in those threads because I’m still fatigued from 2018 and ZD. Those people are dip shit shills too.

I don’t understand your whataboutism, but whatever helps you defend the green rat clan I guess?

"Hide behind the 30 FPS load of crap either" That's the entire point.

It's not uncommon to see a controller being used during pre-release game footage with the game running on a PC, especially for genres that play much better with a controller, like Sonic Frontiers. This usually isn't too big of a deal, as the footage in most cases is very comparable to the console counterparts.

What is uncommon is showing off a First Person Shooter with Xbox controller prompts less than a month before its release with a frame rate that is not even supported on the platform that the button prompts are typically associated with.

MS already delayed it by a year. Remember this was announced as a 2022 title like Forza and Starfield. MS tried to do the right thing but it sucks to see them still rushing it out the door without a 60 fps mode.

I think they just couldnt figure out how to do 60 fps on consoles. I bet this will run at 60 fps on PCs.
Fucking how? The game should run at least as good as deathloop.

This one is a (small) open world but deathloop looked graphically a bit more detailed.

Yep, all we heard in the acquisitions threads is that these acquisitions should pass because these poor billion-dollar multiplatform publishers will finally get Microsoft's funding and dev resources to make the best possible games.
Indeed - obvious to all how little Microsoft needs a helping hand.

Wait...isn't the sole purpose of making this game look like an early 360 tittle was so you have zero trouble running it?

Game looks like it should also mine bitcoin in the background while running 120 on SS, WTF is this shit if not pure mismanagement n incompetence i don't know

ps
N gaf wants MS giving this studio "blind" checks
Not a good idea

I mean ... I've never played an Arkane game. Maybe if I just can't wait, I'll play Deathloop this summer instead. Will probably just wait for this 60 fps patch then.

Rough.
Just play dish 1 and 2 and prey, deathloop is by far their worst game in the past 15 years.

You can probably run these at 4k60 on a mid pc.
