Naughty Dog Announces Development Delay on TLoU MP (MP Dev Team 'Significantly Scaled Down,' Bloomberg Reports)

Which I think can hopefully be a good thing

I trust a Bungie evaluation a lot more than Hermen

This is exactly what we were complaining a month ago that Microsoft DIDNT do with regards to Redfall so I am not going to be a hypocrite about it.
bungie evalutation is from mtx department and player retention.
They will asses it whether the game can last 1 year or multiple years.

This is the best news I’ve read in a while. I hope the game ends up being completely canceled. The last thing in the world I’d want to see is Last of Us multiplayer start making a lot of money and Naughty Dog ends up pulling a Rockstar. Hopefully the same thing happens to the Guerilla/Horizon multiplayer project.
This reads to me like "how do you plan to keep this updated frequently and seasonally". It may not even be a quality issue but basically an assessment that they will Halo Infinite themselves if they don't get their content pipelines ready. And by Halo Infinite I mean release a game people enjoy at launch but quickly abandon because it's not getting updated.
Honestly, were fans of the studio actually (and I mean actually) excited for this GaaS spinoff that Naughty Dog would have had to support for years to come?
Just cut your losses and move on.

People shat on Phil Spencer for not delaying/canceling Redfall now people shit on sony for the re-evaluation of a project that's not up to snuff....#gamers

Funny i was just saying this the other day:

"I'm kinda worried they're putting too much effort on the GaaS trash and it may take away for some real games in terms of devs and money, we can already see that.

Like bruh they closed Japan Studio for that Haven trash shit and other GaaS, Hermen as i said has no taste in gaming."

If they keep it with that GaaS shit it will only hurt Sony 1st party output, hopefully they wake up before it's too late.

The people that loved factions loved it for what it was. All Sony had to do was more of the same on new maps. How has that become such a cluster fuck?

People said Cuckboy unchecked would be a disaster and they were mocked. Well enjoy watching your TV series because you’ve traded in peak ND the game developer for that.

It will be GaaS, to me it could get even canceled or posponed to sometime in 2024 like suicide squad and nothing of value would be lost.
If it costs 70$(doubtfull but u never know with those companies;p) its doa, if its f2p like warzone/fortnite/haloinfinite then hard to say if it will be succesfull, since we didnt see any gameplay yet.

So or so, i hope ND shows us some singleplayer game soon, instead, maybe new IP, or maybe at least Jak and Daxter remake at least? Kinda like we got uncharted collection?

Another reason why Insomniac >>> Naughty Dog.

(not saying ND are bad before anyone gets butthurt, but their output since Uncharted 3 has been awful in terms of gaps between releases.)
It's quite clear insomniac can have such high efficiency due to reuse of assets, and pretty much everything. Spiderman 2 is like an Assassin's creed iteration. Barely noticeable improvements. I wouldn't be surprised if wolverine looked the same as well.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

I can't be the only one that sees this as a good thing any way its sliced.

What's that saying, a delayed game is eventually good...

I rather they delay it if they know it's not up to scratch, I rather they work on their next game and scrap it completely if it comes to that. I honestly wish more studios do this, just cut your losses or make the hard call when things aren't going as planned vs forcing out a release and putting-out something bad.

You guys can't be giving studios hell for not just delaying stuff and working on it some more then when one does you are instantly on their backs.

Which is it?

This will cost 70$ no doubt about that.

Its time to give the Last Of Us franchise a break. Its getting burned out imo.

Naughty Dog needs to do a new Jak and Daxter, Uncharted and/or a new ip single player experience.

Im tired of the drab Last Of Us world.

FireWalk Studio was probably signed during this evaluation process.
FairGames is getting a beta soon (apparently)

Maybe Bungie saw some good things with these two games.

It gets worse...

Apparently Bungie looked over a build of the game and reported back saying it looked dogshit 💀💀💀
Good thing Bungie were bought for their expertise. I imagine any new GaaS (pitch made after the Bungie acquisition started) has to pass Bungie now before they start. Maybe the problems with Factions could have been solved before they started the process.

That's fine. That's what has killed Halo Infinite, it's something they need to be aware of and I wouldn't be shocked if Naughty Dog had little planning for the post launch support at all

Grubb jumping in on this like an opportunist.
Not at all. The reason is important in this case.

And the report clearly mentions the reason, i.e., Bungie thought that long-term engagement and monetization will be difficult. Nowhere does it say that the game wasn't coming along, or it was stuck in pre-production, or devs kept leaving: which are all examples of development hell.

Significantly scaling back the team is not normal development, though. It’s what you do when you’re mulling a cancellation or a very extensive delay.

Druckmann really hasn't been part of the multiplayer project. Do we need to.blame the man for everything?

After a round of 5 v 5, for every person you kill, you have to play a 15 hour prequel journey in their shoes to win the round.

At this point I think it's shelved. This had no business being a AAA (presumably full priced) release... If it could've stayed as a simple but entertaining multiplayer mode for TLOU2 that would have avoided the cluster fuck this has become and TLOU2 would probably be remembered more fondly in general today.

What a mess

I wouldn’t say they’ve dragging ass lol just not giving people entirely what they want. ND is huge dev team, so there’s other stuff in the works for sure.

Uncharted 4 - 2016
Uncharted Lost Legacy - 2017
TLOU 2 - 2020
TLOU Remake - 2022
TLOU Multiplayer- 2024?

That’s a good output, it’s just most people are either sick of those IP, live-service mp games, or both.

Microsoft has an opening now. Everyone has forgotten about Redfall with all this overreaction to recent Sony news and their showcase, that was not even that bad.

All they need is to tease some news and then show a 60fps 5 second clip of Starfield to ride hype all the way to their own showcase.

my hot take: following the unprecedented critical/consumer success (& very deservedly so) of the last of us, naughty dog went full-blown prima donna, & this, imo, is just an indication of it finally catching up with them. yes, there are other mitigating factors (gaas, etc), but i still believe them getting high on their own product for years now has ended up taking its toll...
Yup. 100% they peaked with TLoU and definitely started to believe their own hype. No reviewer wanted to go against the grain after their unstoppable PS3 run so U4 and TLoU 2 saw hugely inflated scores (ironically LL did not, and that was their best PS4 game).

Can't figure out if SIE is considering this game TLOU3 or not, sending too many mixed signals to us.

I can see those games making noises on PS, but on PC, it will be difficult. 2023 and 2024 have some big games from mmo's and other live service games. That is a big battlefield there.
also passing bungie assessment isnt a guarentee success. It needs to hold its own ground, especially with BR hype that is going now.

Zombie survival PvPvE game not being "good enough"? I think there is some law that mandates that.

What will be the next shocking news? Water is wet?

Jak and Daxter won't sell millions. That game should be made by another small studio and night ND. The Uncharted series is actually burned out.

I don't get this thought process. You're basically saying developers shouldn't try to make GaaS titles because the competition is too strong.

I never said it's going to guarantee success because it passed their test, it just means it's likely headed int he right direction.

New single-player IPs are a risk and so are GaaS titles. Sony can't keep making single-player games. They have to do different things. If this ABK deal does in fact go through then having successful GaaS games becomes more important.

Considering there was no sign of it at the showcase yesterday, this is a no shit situation. It’s funny that they made mention of single player in there though, I wonder if it’s a result of the of the general complaints from everyone asking where the fuck are the single player games.

EXTRACTION LOOTER SHOOTER EXTREME

Man I bet they caught wind of how tired the public is of these projects, then opened up TLOUmp.exe and noticed their Purple Crowbar with +4.7% Stability and thought "ya know maybe this isn't such a good idea..."
