The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |OT|

this is a warning to anyone who hasn’t played it yet. Do not play this game! It will ruin gaming for you. Anything I play now after beating totk feels like going from a modern game to an Atari game made in 1983. The ways Zelda totk allows you to create solutions to problems is one of the biggest changes I’ve ever seen in gaming. I can see many future games trying to copy what totk did. The creativity and the freedom this game gives you is unparalleled. Let’s say you are trying to cross a river but you can’t. No prob. See those trees? Go cut them down and glue them together and make a bridge. Or there is a ledge far above you that you cannot reach. It’s ok, go build a freaking hot air balloon and there ya go. There was countless times that I solved a shrine doing something that I know the game didn’t exactly want me to do and that was ok. It made me feel like a freaking genius. The last game that made me this sad to “complete” and made other games that I played afterward feel like junk was red dead redemption. I can’t say if Totk is my fav game of all time but I will say it’s easily right up there in my top 5.

Those madlads at Nintendo did it again. Tears of the Kingdom is doing the same for me as Breath of the Wild. I am actually excited and thinking about the game when I am not playing. That rarely happens anymore. Not even Elden Ring could do that for me (still a good game, though). The last game that did if was Breath of the Wild, which also "brought me back" to gaming... Had a couple of years where I didn't really play games at all except for the occasional session of Tiberian Sun or Age 2 or HoMM 3.

They even managed to make crafting/building mechanics fun, which I rarely find fun in games. The other recent game at the top of my head where I had fun with the crafting was Dragon Quest XI.

Eventhough I beat the game and have Diablo 4 to play I keep coming back to it. This game man... FF16 should pull me from my Zelda addiction for a few weeks though.
haha, you'll be back to Zelda in no time. Ff16 is painfully mid i
I LOVE Tears of Kingdom but I highly disagree. As I keep progressing through the game the combat and story keeps getting better, if this keeps up it could easily be my GOTY.
I thought the same until the last 1/3. It falls apart so rapidly that I had visions of FF12 rushed ending all over again

Finished. Absolutely loved this game and had a blast. I’ll probably post some in depth spoilery thoughts after I’ve had some more time to reflect. I will say this though. I hope they go back to more traditional Zelda world design and storytelling in the next game…or just flat out reboot the series. I used to be really interested in Zelda lore but it’s long since passed the point where any of it makes any sense or has any continuity….BotW and TotK really put the final nail in that coffin. The dungeons were terrible, there’s no defending it in my eyes. They either learned nothing or didn’t care to learn anything. Throwing “temple” in the name of a place maybe tickles the nostalgia a little bit, but that’s it. I said earlier in this thread that the Divine Beasts were actually better than these, and having finished the game now, I feel even more comfortable saying that. They’re the worst dungeons ever in 3d Zelda, and I don’t say that lightly.

Now to take a little break and then jump back into Hyrule.

Came back to the game after a short break and I'm back to disliking it again. Absolutely hate the story and the Master Sword sucks again. Now that I know the reward for doing all the shrines is of no interest to me I'm probably just going to do all the side quests and get through the rest of the dungeons. Speaking of, Gerudo dungeon was a bit of a letdown after easily being the best part of BotW. The pre-dungeon stuff was pretty good but the actual dungeon itself was kind of eh.

I’m trying to do the dupe trick of shooting multi shot arrows in the chasm with the funnel. I’m doing it correctly I think but the arrows keep exploding on the wall and not making dupe items fall. I’m on 1.1.2. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

From what I've seen of those dupes, is that it happens because they shooting thru the small boundary zone between the Depths and Over world. Both videos I saw they were down on the Depths side shottine at the small boundary zone or further up to the overworld zone. I've haven't tried it, that's just my observation.

Finished the regional phenomena questline and still have a ways to go before wrapping this up but at 60hrs in… this might be my GOAT. The physics and vibes this game gives me are insane, and it rekindled my love for videogames in a way I didn’t think possible.

also, fuck Queen Gibdo

Once you realize that Nintendo is just in a class of its own and to not compare others against them you kind of give a pass to all other open world action/adventure/rpg games.

That's the only way you'll be able to get over the lack of creativity, interactivity and innovation in other games. At least that's what works for me.

Just finished the game last night. EPIC. Just a fkin epic ass game man. I say this as someone who didn’t like breath of the wild as much as most do. Ocarina of Time is still the GOAT but this game is the game of the generation. Buy the special edition OLED switch. But the amiibos. It’ll be like owning the gold n64 and gold ocarina of time cartridge. This is one of those huge moments in gaming.
The story beats all other zelda games. The sheer imagination that went into this game is staggering. It reminds me of when I watched Dune. Im like man what an imaginative world they created. Just sheer wonder at every moment.

Here is my review after beating the game if you want to listen to someone gushing about it for 30 minutes

Thanks for sharing. I can really feel how passionate you are about the game!

I believe this is the game of the generation and I have overwhelmingly positive feelings about it. As a gamer of 30 plus years, however, it does put me in a difficult spot as far as it being super memorable. Story is super important for me, and as someone who ALSO views Ocarina of Time as the pinnacle of gaming history and probably the most memorable game I’ve ever played, there’s definately a “been there done that” feeling I can’t shake. Without getting into specific story spoilers, this is practically the same story as Ocarina of Time retold in a slightly different way, right down to certain scenes/flashbacks being practically cut and pasted from Ocarina. (I’m sure you know what I’m talking about). If this was the first Zelda I’ve played, my mind would be blown. But again, as a longtime gamer, I feel like it’s getting to the point where the “evil man from the desert wants to take over/destroy Hyrule” plot is long past stale. I love the character of Ganondorf but he’s been overused to the point where it lacks impact anymore. Just my thoughts. Remaking actual Ocarina of Time with some BoTW/TotK like elements though? Sign me the fuck up.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
Been playing this on Yuzu and I am starting to get into it. However, Dark Souls style playing is still too firmly ingrained into me. It drives me crazy that I can't dodge in the traditional sense. I am not a fan of the combat. I very much enjoy the shrines and coming up with solutions that the developer probably didn't intend.

I find combat is not fun in prolonged battles. I try and take things out as fast as possible with bows or use the fancy crowd control fuse items to really mess them up. Muddle buds and puff shrooms.

I find this fun. Parrying is cool and dodging is just to start a flurry rush.

I tend to keep distance and do hit and runs.

I could see how people don’t like it. It isn’t an action game it is more of a planning and tactical thing. I don’t enjoy just pounding on enemies with melee combat

That said I’d like more weapon move sets and attack options.

I almost always look for environmental ways or items like puffshrooms, dazzlefruit and muddlebulbs to defeat them as it saves weapon durability...I also just love dropping crates and boulders on their heads 😅

I'm starting to get bored. The game is excessively vast. Transportation is challenging, damn horse keeps getting lost. I needed a horse like Torrent. I'm too lazy to build a vehicle every time. Besides, vehicles and horses are only useful on flat terrain; they lag behind when I'm gliding or climbing. Discovering new places doesn't excite me as much as before because I stopped getting excited about loot a while ago. The Shrines don't bring me the same joy anymore. I'll quickly unlock the remaining areas and head towards the fourth and final phenomenon. I had saved the stone-eating guys for last; their town and traveling on rails felt really tedious.

Yeah for sure I’m usually just bullet time headshotting with strong fuse items to do my damage. Or sneak strikes Then the last enemy I might try and melee battle just to learn some doge and parry timing. But at unlocking and using items is my go to.

You can always just go to a stable and get your horse. I leave mine all the time. I’d guess there is a way to summon your horse. There is a horse teleport in BoTW.

As far as I know, you can not clear it out. There are 2 shrines in the fog, both are side mission based.
One, you walk a lighted path until you defeat a mini boss to open.
The other one you need to drop in from above (sky island).
Other than that, there is nothing to see anyway.

fuck sorry for the double post.

Can someone explain exactly how the Korok mask works? It seems a little random at times. It spins the flower and makes the korok noise, sometimes I am able to plainly spot the Korok nearby, other times I have scoured every inch of the map within a certain radius and the mask keeps making noises but no korok in sight.. is it supposed to give you the direction, general area, or just make noise when you are X feet away from a korok in any direction?

Wow, so the fucking controller I bought just a few months ago started having some issues registering up on the left analogue stick and today it just finally broke. If I try to push up, it just doesn't register, or it will register it as down.
After getting drift in both sticks of my joycons and then on the left stick on the pro controller, I'm pretty fed up with this shit. I'm not buying yet another controller for this piece of shit system.
Just buy a usb dongle if you have other controllers. I use ds4 with it to make joycons more durable. Expect a little bit more lag though.

Probably the latter. I've had it react to koroks on the surface while going through the secret passage between Lookout Landing and the castle (which is exactly why I was wearing it lol).

Currently 120 hours in and closing in on the ending. I fully intend to do everything I can finish before ending the game proper. Every shrine. Every lightroot. Every side quest. This game is a masterpiece, and the longer I can string it out for the better.

Go back to that room and follow the water, there is so much more to uncover, including an armor set.

i made it all the way down to a bubblefrog pit with thorns. Seems to be a dead end.. is the armour set hidden somewhere down here?
You need to explore the place more thoroughly
There are many rubble blocks covering sort of hyruelan prison cells, once in the beinning close to where the first likelike was, and one before the frog, and before the electical likelike.
From the electrical likelike upwards the roots you get into the castle.

Wow!

I was deeply moved when I obtained the Master Sword. Poor Zelda. It felt like gently touching my beloved for the last time as her hair softly brushed against me. The tears on the ground were hers as well. It was an indescribable moment for me, one that I will never forget. It may be a simple story, but it can only be told in such an epic manner. I'm incredibly curious about how it will end.

Ugh wish i didn't click on that. I was already sort of spoiled of something along those lines....

I just know something shocking happens way before I should. I didn't read this whole thing so sort of anticipating.

Since you already spoiled don't do that yet.
Leave the Sword if you still need the upgrade materials. Because it's hard to track her to farm materials after you pull out sword
I had to reload previous save to make things easier. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
