Artstyle looks passable, no singleplayer sucks big time though, it's gonna flop super hard with the way they want the game to be. hopefully they at least have that single player patch ready as outrage immediately begins after the release.

So, it’s a series of rendered cutscenes scripted in a way so a Twitch-like audience can vote on the outcome of decisions live? Like Twitch plays Until Dawn?

“It’s cannon for everyone. You can’t change servers”

Cannon? Of what? It barely resembles the source material and looks like a fake trailer or fan film you’d see on YouTube.

Also, “BANDER-SNATCH” Say that out loud and try to take yourself seriously. Jesus Christ.

This dude got his teenage wet dream funded so I guess congrats but it’s cringeworthy. The premise is terrible and this looks fucking stupid. I’ve played some dogshit and have seen some middling movies but this is the first Silent Hill title that’s getting the hard pass.

Silent Hill F is the only SH thing in that whole presentation, that actually made me feel something, other then a void of just nothing...

This, and everything else besides F, is just another proof that Konami treats Silent Hill like a whore.

Just give it to a bunch of people, so they can do their thing all over it, then pass it to the next person. If it flops, if it's actually good, if it fits the premise of the series, who cares.

Let's take this series, known for extremely personal single player experiences, and let's make a streaming thing out of it. The complete opposite of the appeal of the series.

Let's make a SH 2 movie, something everyone has been asking for (Not), and to promote THE MOVIE, let's make a SH 2 Remake.

God, Konami...

So it's a given that there is no way they will actually build out truly divergent branching storylines if the audience will only ever see one (through their collective 'choices'). It would simply be financially inconceivable to do that.

What that leaves us with then is the illusion of choice. The illusion of meaningfully directing the story. They're going to tell the story they want to tell and they already know how it ends. The idea that the audience will actually determine the outcome is bullshit.

This isn't a choose your own adventure. This isn't remotely the same thing as Bandersnatch. There are no multiple endings. There is, by their own admission, only one story that everyone will ever see.

is this a game?

The authors describe it as 'an interactive streaming series'.

Some information snippets from random interviews/forum posts etc.:

In this series, which will unfold simultaneously across the globe, those watching can help decide the fates of Ascension's main characters. This means that as the story plays out, the audience will have a say in who survives the surely horrific story, who will be redeemed or damned by their actions, and who will suffer the almost certainly ghastly consequences. According to Genvid Entertainment, not even the developers will know the results of the story until it unfolds.

The series is not a simple choose your own adventure, and it's not voting. We'll share more on how you participate a bit later, but there are multiple systems in place that will shift the results, and every day is new content and cinematics.

So you will be able to stream it on Ascension.com. But we’re also going to have apps and console builds; you can basically access it anywhere that Netflix gets access. So wherever you will be watching it on your TV, on your PC, on your phone, it will work there. And it will work at the fidelity of the trailer.

You'll generate influence through puzzle solving and QTEs. You can then use that influence to participate in the story decisions.

You're streaming it, but it's got frame-synchronized interactivities that allow for rich QTEs over the video. Like more than just "tap x"; there will be intricacies in what you have to do. There are a lot of time-based interactions and puzzles that require finer control so we haven't cracked how to do it on a Roku remote yet. Right now we're supporting mouse+keyboard, touch, and once fine-tuned will begin working on the console controller interface.

So this series is going to go on for months, we have a massive storyline planned and which characters make it to the end and which characters do not make it to the end, we have no clue yet. Typically, in a Silent Hill game, you’re playing as the protagonist. And basically, you just keep restarting up until you survive, right? That’s how a single-player game works. But in my earliest discussions on Silent Hill: Ascension, I said there’s no reset button. And I meant that. So once that character gets on a path toward destruction, and as their hope is reduced, they’re probably going to be permanently out of the story. And so we need enough characters to see who can actually survive the gauntlet of Ascension, because the audience is actually directing the story.

Every single day there are new scenes. No day is the same as the previous. Starting week one, we’re taking you into it like a television show. We’re setting up the characters, we’re setting up the locations, you’re going to learn a little bit about them. And then every day, at predetermined times, there are going to be new sequences and new action settings happening. So you’re there on day two, and day three, they are not the same. Day four, they are not the same. The story is unfolding, every single day, differently.

Will people be able to catch up [on the story]? Maybe they’re out on day one, and they want to find out, well, what happened yesterday?

Yes. There are a couple of different ways that we’re going to be handling this. First and foremost, let’s say that you log on day three. The moment that you log on, there’s going to be a catch-up video that’s going to show you think of it like you know the opening of Game of Thrones or Succession — that 15-second here’s what you need to know. We’re going to have these generated daily, and they’re going to contain the output of what the audience has been deciding. We can’t really make them far in advance, because we don’t actually know what’s going to happen. Like, literally the day before, we’re cutting the videos, and then we’re going to put that live. Then every single day, those sequences air, and the decisions that happen in those sequences are going to be put into sections where you can watch the VOD clips. [...] Then every week, we’re compiling all of the main story sequences into an episode, just like a 45-minute episode of television. So by the end of the season, longer than a season of Fortnite, you’re going to have many episodes of television that’s going to result from this and it’s literally a Silent Hill series that’s built by the audience.

Most of this can be found in the interview below:

Still, of all new SH projects that were announced, this is the one I'm most skeptical about. Everything about it just seems 'off'. Not to mention it looks more like a hybrid between Dead by Daylight and a random Supermassive title.

Yes, you do. This one was in the previous trailer as well.

NSFW, of course:

Subtlety? Gracefulness? Treating touchy subjects with respect. Nah, too boring.

Give the new guys some credit, even though they aren't Japanese, shit.

This artwork is amazing. A vagina on a face. It's truly unsettling, and a good metaphorical depiction of horror, and the fear of having your OWN idea of Silent Hill challenged by a group of people you don't know, while you try to run from the weird, Western machinations at play. You're literally fighting against the studio's fuck heads! Brilliant.

This is the one that I was the least excited about. It's hardly even a game, it's an interactive experience that people vote on what happens next, lol. A real odd path to take IMO.

The art looks pretty passable, really don't care for that soundtrack though, lol.

Holy fuck at that music. I lean into the genre this guy is a part of, too, but goddamn.

Sounds like Kylie Minogue music instead of trip hop and industrial. Scariest part of this experience.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
So this isn't a Japanese produced game? A lot of the people involved look like typical danger-haired types. That already sets off an alarm with me.

However, I noticed the Imgur image is attached to Skinny Puppy with a check mark. So is Skinny Puppy somehow involved with this project? Because they're pretty damn good. Would make sense to considering how grotesque the band has been in the past.

Edit: yep, I just read that Skinny Puppy will be composing the music for the game.

I still think this entire SH revival Konami showcased will range from absolute fucking duds with SH logos and generic "scary industrial stuff" art to SH2R being the most successful because it'll probably be a mixture of competent-enough meets heavy nostalgia.

PS: That music sounds like a fucking Goth night circa 2009 mixed with that Buschemi "hey kids!" meme. Doesn't fit SH whatsoever imo but then again I'm not surprised.
