What's even more tired than Anita is the whole "tropes" form of critcism.
The reason for its popularity is that tropes can be "analyzed" by any middling mind like hers, no matter how far below the population IQ norm.
All you do:
- notice an obvious pattern ("Link always saves Zelda, hmmm sounds like a damsel situation!")
- shoehorn everything into it ("Even when we doesn't exactly save her like in Spirit Tracks, it's close enough to the trope")
- ignore all contradictory narrative elements ("Link may be symbolically a servant of Zelda with far less political or real power in their world, but that doesn't matter, she's still disempowered by being in this position")
- conflate the form and content, ignore framing, treat everything as the trope unless it obviously and stupidly "inverts" it
- praise all the games that use simple inversion of the trope as if this is a serious political contribution rather than a lighthearted joke or variation
- generally lead your audience to believe that "tropes" are like these demonic forms controlling us all, and the only way to break free is to act like a bratty teenager rebelling against her dad, and just do the opposite of whatever the cultural forms and narratives say
