The possible console PS5 Slim leaked? (Update: possible video)

Might beat PS3 top loader in clunkiness and yo ugly.

PS3 second slim is definetly the least attractive of the bunch, but this might be closer to the PS2 slim. Not a huge fan of the white though.

I had heard it wasn't a proper "slim" before, but like, being barely any smaller 3 years in...

disappointed bummer GIF

I hope it's perfected on noise at least...

Advocating to take away your own benefits, choice and ownership.
People are idiots.

Its consumable entertainemnt for me, so I consume and discard, which would create a lot of plastic waste.

If you fancy yourself a collector, I am sure they will keep selling plastic boxes for you to store.

From a consumer standpoint this is a win, but I still don't understand why they thought necessary to overengineer this thing, which then led to higher costs across the board and less profit.. I think they messed up.

Sony is much better at balancing all that to where they actually make money and the product is.. acceptable.

The split board design in the XSX would actually be saving them money (vs. a single board) due to the layers needed for bandwidth on the APU board. They went this way to allow them to use a cheaper/thinner board for the secondary components. And with the way the Xbox components fit together along with using standard paste, it is unlikely that the literal cost of the assembly process is higher on the MS side. MS has a bigger APU that is costing them more and limiting the number of units they can get out since they have the secondary unit in productions as well (there could be some hits to the economic scale of the dual sku approach as well, but most of the components outside the APU are common).

If anything is boosting their costs over PS it is the APU itself and the more expensive cooler. I don't see how people figure design/layout of the components is hurting them much in terms of cost. (outside the cooler obviously). Typically it is PS that painfully over engineers from an assembly standpoint (that sandwich design on the PS4 where the heatsinks were built into the shielding, yikes, that demanded precision).

With how quiet the systems are they might have overbuilt the cooling a bit which has always made me wonder about the clocks on the XSS. It seems like it could easily be clocked higher if they altered the fan curve to be more aggressive, same with the XSX.

Disposable, consumable hobby?
But this is your hobby isn't it ?!
If games are so disposable to you... selling the games you finished would make more sense.

Anyway. Death of physical will not be good for anyone

Almost as if technology was advancing slower ;). Which it is…

Still, it might end up not the PSTwo kind of slim redesign but from what they quoted is quite a bit better redesign than PS3 and PS4 had.
You are also dismissing weight as a factor: from the original model to this the weight of the unit has dropped a lot and likely this will be much cheaper to manufacture too.

We want small consoles but with the power requirements they have they cannot just be that small…

I know but with a die shrink and them already stripping stuff out of the OG heatsink wise before the shrink even, it's already overbuilt on the outside

If there's a cheaper SKU (diskless model?), then I'll definitely pick one up as a second console to put in another room....I'm skeptical of this leak though unless we get a clearer picture of the whole unit. Overall, the console seems to have the same shape (anterior portion is thickest, then tapers down to the rear), which means it can't rest on its side without a stand. This would've been a good opportunity to ditch the stand, so I'd be surprised if they used the same curved/asymmetric proportions, instead of following a shape similar to the Xbox 360. Also the slit design indicates that face plates can't be swapped out with existing ones. Otherwise, it definitely appears slimmer, and I love the addition of another USB-C port.

What does that have to do with anything? You can still redesign something to be smaller + more cost efficient regardless whether the costs of manufacturing the older version have been increasing or decreasing. Those are two independent things. You seem to be deeply confused.
Trust me my man, im never confused. If they wanted jus a slim model with cheaper parts all the power to them. My point is they already have a”slim” aka all Gigi tap model. This add on disc drive will be a complete failure like just about every single add on in gaming history. This is the pre cursor for an all out digital ps6, in which case I can’t wait to hear all pussiness and tears.

I kind of doubt a PS5 would be a failure. Even if they revert to a base model with an optional add on for disks. From the sounds of it they will probably do bundles instead of selling it separately. So essentially you would still have 2 SKUs in a way.

Edit: By add ons I know your talking about things like the Sega CD or the 360 HD-DVD drive. This isn't exactly that kind of a thing.

No shit. Just like the S is the trojan for MS non physical and their sub service, which is why it was heavily discounted and their number 1 SKU.

If true, I'm glad they got rid of the gloss bullshit. Everything looks better with a matt finish.

I think it looked 'fine' - but calling PS3 Slim... 'Slim' was always a bit odd to me.
Like it's been 2nd largest Playstation model ever sold, until PS5 came out.
It's still quite a bit smaller than the original model though. PS2 Slim is really an outlier here because it was just SO MUCH smaller especially the 3rd model that I mentioned with the built in power supply.

Seeing as I have not gotten a PS5 yet (am poor, so sad) I wonder if I should pick this baby up. Guess it all depends on how curvy this one is. I need them curves.

Hopefully this is sarcasm. Helps the entire planet.🤣😂🤦‍♂️

So what you’re saying is , is don’t cut out non bio degradable plastics and useless plastic boxes and cases because the internet is also bad?

In that case fuck the planet I’m going to stop recycling and get a gas guzzler cos guess what the internet is also bad.
