Phil Spencer wants to buy Nintendo: i honestly believe a good move for both companies

I wonder what Nintendo will make of all this.

Two things are for certain, they will now be closely monitoring the activity regarding their stock, and secondly they might be looking at that Activision deal in a different light.
Man if Activision isn't on Nintendo or Sony, they've effectively made them worth less than half what they bought them for.

Which is precisely why I thought (and still think) it was foolish for Sony and Nintendo to agree to those deals.

In signing those deals they are only assisting Microsoft towards their goals while putting themselves in increasingly vulnerable positions.

Sony could have more or less bought the whole industry up in the 90s when it came as a billion dollar conglomerate and devs and pubs were cheaper than a nice house

But they didn't. There was a fundamental belief in strengthening third parties from Sony that strengthened the whole industry
I'm not talking about Sony from the 90s but about Jim Ryan. :p

Reason #78474628293 why Microsoft are the Cancer of the gaming industry. , they just want to buy and gobble up everything. A shitty company to be honest. It’s why I’ve never really believed the “good guy Phil” bullshit and Kumbaya talk from Phil all these years. I can see right through their bullshit.

No company or person that cares about gaming would want Nintendo to go broke or bankrupt. The guys over at MS are truly assholes that don’t give a shit about this hobby of ours.
Using 'cancer' is a bit harsh.

They don’t wanna create anything worthwhile or add to gaming
I think Xbox has had more new IP's this year then Nintendo (Hi-Fi Rush and Starfield to name two).............so........

Because its bullcrap like those who say XBox is pulling out of the gaming industry.
Xbox going 3rd party has a higher chance of happening than them ever acquiring Nintendo.

Joke aside I don't understand all the negativity. People here are quite biased. Of course MS want to be the leader, of course they want, if they can to acquire Nintendo. Sony wouldn't want that if they could afford it ? When they remove Final Fantasy from the opponent system it is fair ? The Silent Hill 2 remake ?

As all of you said MS is a trillionaire company, of course they wanna grow, they wanna be leaders... Sony acquired a lot of developers / publishers too (Insomniac, Bungie, etc) and it was all fine...
Sony acquired Bungie and their games remained multiplat. NOTHING ANYWHERE CLOSE to the level of acquisition of an Activision or Nintendo. So, please spare the disingenuous nonsense.

I honestly think about Bungie that those games remain multiplat because those games make money through MTX. If Bungie develops a solo experience I'm 100% sure it will remain exclusive. And they would be right.

MS too let Minecraft multiplat because it makes so much money through mtx.

Your guesses are pointless, given they'll never have the seismic impact of a Nintendo acquisition by another manufacturer.

Disgusting. Utterly and truly disgusting. The fact that nefariously acquiring Nintendo shares via another company.

Show just how underhanded Microsoft really is.

Jim Ryan has been there since day one

The only major purchase under his tenure as CEO has been Bungie who have retained independence as a publisher and a mix of start ups and porting support studios

Stop trying to conflate your dislike of the man with the actual words and actions MS have been doing

This is getting out of hand, Xbox has a big problem on their hands. All their plans and hopes are getting leaked.

Can we get one thread for all the ftc leaks, already more than 4 threads on the main page.

Nintendo will never sell to a western company. They'd rather all commit seppuku first.

The fact Spencer clearly has no idea of how Japanese companies operate, or the philosophies they have towards global business, is telling of his naivety and ignorance.

I mean.....

Would it mean Nintendo consoles become less of a joke when it comes to specs? That would be the only good thing. It's best if this doesn't happen, and it won't.

Its already in full motion:

"The unfortunate (or fortunate for Nintendo) situation is that Nintendo is sitting on a big pile of cash, they have a BoD (board of directors) that until recently has not pushed for further increase in market growth or stock appreciation,” he reported to his colleagues Chris Capossela and Takeshi Numoto. “I say ‘until recently’ as our former MS BoD member ValueAct has been heavily acquiring shares of Nintendo (...) and I’ve kept in touch with Mason Morfit [ValueAct’s CEO, editor’s note] as he’s been acquiring. It’s likely he will be pushing for more Nintendo stock which could create opportunities for us.”

Nintendo Switch is a far, far more interesting console than Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. Raw power isn't everything.

Microsoft have been doing a piss-poor job of managing the Xbox brand since the launch of Xbox One in my opinion so goodness' only knows what kind of mess they would make of Nintendo if they ever managed to acquire them. They'd ruin them for sure and tarnish that unique and special Japanese 'flavour' that they bring to most of their beloved game franchises.

/shudders

Microsoft still need to convince me that I did the right thing buying an Xbox Series X...

Sony and Nintendo should catch on to Microsoft and merge. Make sure to write in the contract that they both remain independent, but merge the companies to secure their future.

I wouldnt be surprised if Microsoft does a hostile takeover next. We let them get away with Activision, they have been emboldened.

Clearly, their specs aren't issue give how successful they are.

Their games are as good as they are because of how they play, not how they look. Last thing they'd ever need is Microsoft's hands in the jar.

I think Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson saw what Microsoft was and what they try to do when he ruled to break them up in 2000, but he couldn’t stop talkin shit about Microsoft which managed to win Microsoft an appeal

They are using another "Activist" capital company called that is notoriously secretive. Better known as Valueact.

And they're doing it via purchasing shares. So it's not a matter of if any more. I thought it was important to make the distinction between those that think Nintendo wont ever sell, and the reality of what's actually happening.

Former Microsoft Board of Directors "Mason Mortiff" is now CEO of Valueact. Phil Spencer says this is their only opportunity to purchase Nintendo. First paragragh
