Thats one thing Phil and i have in common, another thing we have in common is that it is never going to happen.

Nintendo Switch is a far, far more interesting console than Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. Raw power isn't everything.

It really, really isn't for me at all. I don't care one iota for handheld gaming, it's all about that console experience for me. I have a beautiful Sony A95K 65 inch QD-OLED and many of these Switch games just do not look great on it, and I'm being kind here with my words. I care a lot for graphics and I'm holding off on buying TotK until the new hardware, hoping, expecting it to at least look acceptable on a large screen.

Sony and Nintendo should catch on to Microsoft and merge. Make sure to write in the contract that they both remain independent, but merge the companies to secure their future.

I wouldnt be surprised if Microsoft does a hostile takeover next. We let them get away with Activision, they have been emboldened.
Sony and Nintendo merging would be equally terrible.

I actually read the article and OP's claims seem like bullshit. Nowhere does it state ValueAct are funded my MSFT. They even sued Microsoft in the past.

Can someone actually post some evidence to corroborate the stinky smelly icky smell of bullshit I'm sensing?

Clearly, their specs aren't issue give how successful they are.

Their games are as good as they are because of how they play, not how they look. Last thing they'd ever need is Microsoft's hands in the jar.

Oh I will never deny that they make quality games, that isn't their issue. Their issue for me is they don't care too much about power anymore. But it's games like Xenoblade, Zelda that really deserve actually decent specs, so that you don't have this jaggy fest, textures actually looking great. And a stable performance.

Imagine if we had Zelda looking as crisp, clean and detailed as RDR2 for example. I've played Tears and it's playable, but would benefit greatly from way better hardware.

I refuse to believe that Nintendo's upper management wasn't aware of these possibilities already. They aren't stupid. They also will know who and what ValueAct is. I bet Furukawa et al. are not surprised by these "leaks".

The same idiots who are in support of them buying activision will see no problem with this either I bet.

What a joke of a company. Can’t compete worth shit so they have to buy the entire industry. Pathetic.
This would be blocked by every competition authority on the planet, as it would represent direct horizontal consolidation.

It’s nonsense.

No, it's just fun to see the difference between Good Guy Phil that is peddled on Twitter and the real Phil in these emails. Hopefully TimDog and the rest sit back and think about what they are doing with their lives.
Imagine if they found out emails about everyone else in the industry, who would then be sitting back and etc? You think they care?

I feel like MS should focus on improving what they have by putting games out and not relying on another company to save them.
Geez, they get one game that gets a bit of pop since the console has been out, and now they are talking about taking over the gaming world. A bit overzealous i think!

Better graphics wouldn't hurt. Of course. They don't need the slimy hands of Microsoft for that, though. :p

People really think that Nintendo execs are stupid

They are in a better position than ever before

ValueAct has 2% of Nintendo's shares

Good luck trying to go for 50% and over

Just I am saying that Sony is using their ressources and MS is using theirs, just MS has way more ressources than Sony.
If MS were spending those resources on putting out the best console on the market and pushing out 90+ bangers every three to six months, no one would care. Gamers would be eating better than ever. That is how market competition is supposed to work: you win by delivering the best products to the market. MS and XBOX have decided that's too much like hard work, so instead of developing studios and building mindshare for their IPs, they've decided to buy massive catalogs of IPs and developers (that have always been mostly platform agnostic) and wall them off for their own platforms.

Not only are they bringing nothing new to the industry (or even their own platform), they're also taking stuff away from others and - in the console space - sequestering it to the least popular of the three platforms, where it will enjoy less success overall. The only people excited about it are those who share Phil Spencer's same single-minded determination to see XBOX dominate at any cost.

I updated the OP where Phil Spencer lays out the strategy. First Paragraph.

Never understood why that apparently super left leaning side twerks for a trillion dollar corporation lol. Asking for heads to roll and for MS to sue the FTC as if they were shareholders.

Phil is engaging in a common practice with these high level executives, which is empire building. A lot of these guys are narcissists and want to rule over an ever growing kingdom within the organization, and MS has the resources to make it happen. Phil even seems to acknowledge it by calling it a "career move." Thing is, it can easily go awry. Nintendo + MS is a horrible fit. MS is horrible at managing franchises and Nintendo is operating with their franchises at the top level in the world imo (compare what Nintendo did with Mario to what Disney is doing with Soy Wars). They are expanding into theme parks and what not. MS released one of the worst TV shows in Halo. MS would destroy the value of Nintendo just for this guy's glory. He's out of control and needs to be reined in. He doesn't understand the strengths and weaknesses of his own organization.
