Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Ubisoft's engines support Mesh/Primitive Shaders? Source?

Would be nice to see these major features finally get adopted more by 3rd party developers. Although I know Mesh Shaders take longer to implement because it takes much more time to re-write the pipeline.
It looks like they said micro detail system, not mesh shaders. I dont know why i remembered mesh shaders. I wonder if its the same thing.

This happens on a number of levels. Kunal Luthra, Senior Technical Artist, said that “using the micro-detail system, we can propagate thousands of assets in one frame. This allows us to have a lot more highly details environments for Pandora.”

All of the foliage on the ground now uses automated placement to help fill out the game world with vegetation, perhaps more fully than human artists can, while also using “visibility tests” that are now handled by the GPU to increase the amount of plants that can be rendered. There’s also new engine shaders that will be interactive and possible to affect by the player, “from real-time wind simulations and interactions to intelligent plants reacting to your presence.”

Sure but to have the exact same sign is uncanny and sticks out like a sore thumb.

Fair point but at the same time they look so similar that most people will not care. And the good thing is that the asset library is growing, not shrinking. More stuff can be added as the time goes.

Because recognizing identical assets in different game worlds reeks of excess commonality from art perspective. If I go to ten different restaurants and all of them had the same tables, chairs, layout etc. I'd be so bored of asthetics. Sure the food may be great but I also pay for unique atmosphere.

I don't think you need to worry about it. People here are calling RoboCop an asset flip game yet interiors are super atmospheric and unique to this game. 80s looking phone is 80s looking phone A pot is a pot. Same with CRT monitors, plates, mugs, fluorescent lamps, etc. It's how these items are placed in the scene. If instead of scanning, modeling and texturing yet another fridge they can focus more on scene composition, I think that's time well spend.

So they want to achieve a micro-polygon rendering system similar to Nanite - I'm guessing they'll most likely leverage Primitve and Mesh Shaders to achieve this similar to what Remedy are doing with Alan Wake 2.

Nothing is stopping developers from modifying the assets. megascans have thousands of different shaders, materials and assets that artists can work off of.

Quixel library is HUGE. Contains tons of very high quality assets.
Found this by typing "road sign"
BREu2v0.png

There is also rubble, planks, trash, bricks and all that stuff.
The cliff side from junkyard level.
You can match and mix anything. The assets are very good because the cliff asset can be enlarged to be a mountain. It is so detailed.

You can see on min 5 how you can move and rotate assets and create whole landscapes from that.
I don't know how expensive it is but game dev must've gotten so much easier with it.

Now show us videos of this in motion

Sorry man, too much effort. I've tried it once with CyberPunk and after all the time put into it, the quality was absolutely gang-banged by YouTube.

Cyberpunk RoboCop also looks good in motion but you have to play with DLAA to minimalize the shimmering on some of the shining surfaces (like wet asphalt).

How in the absolute fuck did you played with DLAA AND path tracing with a 4070ti?

Sorry, brain fart. That second part should be about RoboCop. And yeah, I have 4090 so that helps.

Cyberpunk I've played with DLSS set to quality, that was good enough to sustain a stable image.

Cyberpunk dlc was even worse:lollipop_squinting:

My game looked NOTHING like your pics.

Seriously? What DLSS settings did you use? Everything lower than quality in 4K K-I-L-L-S the image. Ray reconstruction needs that. I was actually pissed off that my screenshots couldn't replicate the results that I was getting on screen.

I didn't even tried dlaa on robocop...

DLAA is the way to go in that game.

Quality of course, i tried balanced but pathtracing wasn't worth the loss in fidelity and framerate, i settled with psycho.

I guess game mode on my c1 really fucks up the image in some way or there is some fuckery going on.

Or maybe you just have a natural talent for cherry picking shot dude, some people are just good, i'm beyond terrible.

Maybe ray reconstruction setting bugged out for you? I've read somewhere that it was busted so every time I've started a new game I was going to settings and turning it off and then on. Without ray reconstruction path tracing is just not worth it. It makes the image too unstable.

Labeled each image how I perceive it.
So yeah. most are good :p
The bad looking ones just look kinda.. plain? Like how I remember SIN looking? idk.

Still, a lot of goods there! Maybe it's not about the quality of the environments but the setting? I mean the game takes place in office buildings, hospitals, TV stations... it's not really 'exciting' if you know what I mean. True to source material, of course, but I get why some might find it 'plain looking'.

I switched between pt with rr and psycho without rr for the whole game, it's not that.

It's probably my tv, screenshot don't take into account monitor\tv bullshits.

Microled tv can't come soon enough, and i'm never gonna buy another fucking lg in my life.

Sony is next i think.

Don't you think this will have bad iq on consoles? I'm expecting some of the worst iq this gen.
In the 60 fps mode, most definitely. 30 fps should be fine.

The PS5 trailer was in FSR Quality mode so 1440p base resolution at 30 fps. the story trailer was mostly betewen fsr performanced and balanced according to DF. 1080p-1260p. But it had A LOT of shimmering compared to the original 30 fps trailer, so i would recommend you suck it up and play it at 30 fps on PS5. I have only played Star Wars in FSR2, but honestly, FSR2 quality is more or less fine. Not as good as DLSS, but its fine. Its when you go below 1440p internal resolution where it starts to fall apart.

Or you can wait for the pro and play it then. Pro should be able to do fsr quality at 60 fps. but thats probably a year from now. This is a game with massive draw distance and foliage, and shimmering will be really bad in it at lower resolutions.

Luckily you can see for yourself. ubisoft has been surprisingly open about showing the game running on PS5 with ray tracing, and IQ warts and all.

Love to see studios being more focused on HDR. I didn't really get the hype of AW2 until I saw HDR video of the diner. Fantastic work.

On the tech side, adding HDR support could almost be said to have been a simple 'let's change the output format' operation; the more significant effort was done on the creative side. Alan Wake 2 is authored in HDR, meaning that the color grading was done by actual human colorists to ensure that the unique art styles and aesthetics, the storytelling and mood of Alan Wake 2 is amplified in both HDR and SDR.

I suddenly identify as a woman and I want to fight that chick on the right.
Tough luck, she loss her last fight and she is gonna get cut from the roster most probably.

Also she stopped doing the bunny thing when she got brutalized by the dude you see on the left of this video.

Isaac looks amazing not gonna lie.

Sadly, he almost never takes his helmet off and the idiots do the god of war one shot take the entire time and leave you in control of the camera. so stupid.

I actually really like the game, but there is no story. im five hours in and nothing has happened. gonna drop it.

Thanks for response ...do you think devs will bother going back and patching games once the Pro comes out? This is a big concern I have. When PS5 came out devs were extremely slow to update games for it and many games never got updated. We won't be able to play games like Avatar, Jedi Survivor, Cyberpunk, and Alan Wake 2 at 60 fps/quality without a patch ..

I just wanted to say, that 2023 is the year of the AA teams (some of them at their first big attempt)

the devs of atomic heart
the devs of hogwarts
the devs of robocop
the devs of dead island 2
the devs of lies of P

It's a pity that none of these guys is gonna have a Sony budget and manpower type of situation for their next game, it's a damn waste of talent.

And except for hogwarts (that i was still able to bruteforce on pc), all of these games are pretty flawless polishing and performance wise.

MidgetRefrain could easily post screens from all these games that get pretty close with the big boys of this year.

Sony (or a less woke big publisher) should buy half of them instead of buying fucking bungie of my ass.

Man, thanks for reminding me about this one. I got it on release but played it for... 116 minutes according to Steam (that's less time that I've spent in Forspoken, believe me or not). I was super sick at that time with fever of like 39.something and playing video games was hard. Yeah, I need to get back to it!
