If that's true, that they are doing it for more appeal, have we broken down how much success has come from said decision? I only ask because how do we know if The Little Mermaid, for example, would have done worse if Ariel remained a white, red-haired girl? If casting a black girl instead helped the franchise then sure, I'd give that credit where due. We just need a breakdown of financials/critical reception before we can proclaim this (again, just an example).
Also, would Blank Panther → White Panther have the same reception/success? I'm not offering a horse for the race, rather, a perspective. If things can be done and not being bogged down by double-standards, then that's another matter.

Idk it was killing my 3060ti and had to run it in dlss down to 768p or whatever. I'm guessing a regular 3060 would have been 500ishp.

I regretted not listening to players about Death Stranding. I won't make the same mistake with this game. I've read many comments about it being boring, so I think I'll wait for it to come to Gamepass.

Games like this (whether it's Alan Wake 2 or a different game), are typically short SP narratives. You arent losing out waiting unless you truly crave the game and click on spoilers. It makes no difference if you play it now or wait a year for a bargain bin or sub plan.
It's not like playing MP sports or shooters where you got to get in at the beginning to level up with everyone else so you arent a level 1 scrub getting plastered.
I just got into buying Steam and GOG games during Xmas 2020. Some games i bought and enjoy playing are made in the 90s. And some of the indie bargain games I buy for $3 are made years ago. Still the same game. If anything, it's better now than years ago because I get the game with multiple patches already built into the game. No MP requirement needed in these games for modern day competitive gaming. So it can wait.

I mean Remedy just seem to love shooting themselves in the foot, the original Alan Wake didnt set the world on fire either thanks to exclusivity and poor marketing, American Nightmare the same. Quantum Break flopped again due to exclusivity on a smaller player base. And now AW2…Digital only, exclusive to EGS, come the fuck on this level of stupidity is beyond a joke, if your going digital only you damn fucking well better have a Steam release, its just so unbelievably fucking STUPID to think EGS was a good idea…

Well, I did my part by purchasing the Deluxe Edition for my XSX. Hopefully more new players discover how awesome this game is. I've only put about 10 hours so far myself, but every minute has been a blast. I loved the original Alan Wake when I played it about 10 years ago, and the sequel has so far exceeded my expectations in every way.

Remedy knows their games arent blockbuster sellers, so they ensure to do marketing partnerships to guarantee a set amount of money to cover the costs. I dont think any games they have made are big sellers. Taking a skim of some of their games on wiki, a game might top out at 3-5M copies after selling for a long time (which would include bargain binning).
Who knows how many copies AW2 will sell... at some point it'll be on Steam... but it'll probably be in the same range.

They're like the western version of Platinum Games. Industry darlings and get good critical reception but not many interested in actually buying their games. But still get funded and supported by publishers anyways.
Love Max Payne and all but honestly haven't been that impressed by their most recent games. Alan Wake (OG) was pretty okay as was Control but they haven't been able to hit the same highs as they did with MP. All that said I'm glad AW2 is a thing (didn't really like it though).

Then the publishers shouldn't be so stupid as to make said single player horror game and not realise that the audience that likes that stuff has a massive overlap with people who prefer physical copies with the full game on disc.

Given how bad the first one was (seriously, it was bad, but worst than being bad, it was a giant let down and probably the most over promised game ever, it went from being an open world spectacle of technology to a linear POS missing every major promised feature) I fully can understand why people are not running to the store to buy its sequel. I'll probably pick it up when its cheaper or at least check it out based on reviews, but I'm not expecting much from it.

I think the game will have some legs on PC, when the game hit steam I'll double-dip on PC to experience the path tracing in the game (by that time I might already upgrade by rig), I finished the game on PS5, and it was a good experience, the noisy specular highlights were the thing that annoyed me the most.

It’s been almost two months since Alan Wake 2 was released. While the game is undoubtedly a massive success among the fans, the financial numbers might not have lived up to expectations.
- Remedy Entertainment has not announced any sales figures for Alan Wake 2 after nearly two months, pointing to poor sales.
- Exclusivity on Epic Games and the lack of a physical release might have hindered sales.
- The sales numbers may have improved after Alan Wake 2 won various awards at TGA 2023.
Despite this impressive horror release, Remedy Entertainment has yet to announce any sales figures, suggesting the game didn’t sell well.
Concerns were raised when Mat Piscatella from Circana reported that the game failed to make it among the top 100 played titles on Xbox and PlayStation. While Epic Games sales weren’t included, this was a major red flag.
In a year like 2023, Remnant 2 sold 1 million copies in a week. Therefore, there was reason to believe Alan Wake 2 would achieve even better results, but nearly two months after launch, Remedy Entertainment has not made any announcements.

The game is very special and will certainly not appeal to the masses. But after a few years, especially after the Game Awards success, I think 3-4 mil is possible.

Agree, it’s a perfect gift for RE and Silent Hill fans this holiday season.
There is a reason as to why MS never bothered with a sequel, also the ambient seems boring as hell and the whole gameplay mechanics are soporiferous, it's like Remedy will never get rid of this tech demo vibes in all of their games. (And the acting... good lord, is it bad on purpose?).
