Kenichiro Yoshida: Playstation will expand gaming experience to PC, mobile and cloud

With their big focus on GAAS, it was said by an exec a year or two ago GAAS kinds of games will be day one PC (like Helldivers 2). Just a matter if/when the SP games join in.

Having PC ports right away is good not just for PC gamers, but assuming it's a cross plat one time purchase, you buy the game once and can play on console and PC with cross saves too. Gives gamers and families options where to play.

Incredible and about time, exclusives are now officially dead.
CEO of MS and Sony saying they will go multiplatform is only logical, games are too expensive to be stuck on one plastic box so this is a great move and gives the consumer more choices.

Now port GT7 with cross save you cowards.

This is either sarcasm (hopefully) or you've been asleep at the wheel. Watch the vid posted by a few of us. Nothing is changing.

If you really managed to carve off space in your brain to remember this then be advised: that was a jab at something I've made in another thread about the closure of 3DBeyond.

Thanks for being my fan, tho.

Yes, this is the trajectory they've been on for the past several years. This statement is just reaffirming that strategy. Some games like live service content will launch day 1 on PC and mobile, but not everything of course

Yes and this is clearly what they are talking about.

Maybe a new narrative is taking shape.

But this is going to be the new narrative by the hardcore crazy Xbox fanbase. They will go with the Donald Trump strategy. Mix and confuse the audience to make it look like everybody is doing the same thing and remove all context and nuance.

With how much AAA games cost these days, I wouldn't be surprise if exclusives slowly become a thing of the past (Beside Nintendo maybe).

You have a powerful console for those you like consoles with PlayStation
You have GamePass for those who prefers the Sub/Cloud Service model with XBox
You Have Nintendo you know... for Nintendo stuff
And you have PC for those who prefer PC (mods, kb&m, etc...)

Nobody's stepping on each other business, games cost hundreds of millions to make so let's just put them everywhere or just keep them as temporary exclusives.

It make sense.

This is the reality. You can't really spend 200 million dollars on a game and leave tens of millions of not hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue on the shelf just to prop up a plastic box that is already selling itself.

Exclusivity doesn't really matter to Sony, especially if they can still sell PS5s.

What matters even more is if they can sell PS+ on mobile and PC and if they can create a PC and Mobile Storefront where they a) don't have to revenue share with Valve, Apple, Google, and Epic and b) where they can actually generate additional revenue from 3rd party sales on those platforms.

That's how PlayStation goes from being valued at around 45-65 billion to being valued at 100+ billion.

Eventually their revenue in non-core business could outmatch their core business.

Amazon started out as an online book store, Marvel started out as a comic book company, and Nvidia was just a graphics card company.

PS5 is going to sell even faster than PS4 despite Sony putting games on PC and Mobile. The revenue that they generate from these other mediums will allow them to sustain a rather unsustainable path with AAA gaming, especially since they understand that they can turn these AAA games into movies and tv shows, that will generate more sales.

IP generation is the most important thing you can do and that is why Sony is looking at Day's Gone, Bloodborne, and Gravity Rush. If even one of these can hit like Cyberpunk Edgerunners, you can sell millions of copies of software that you otherwise couldn't have. That's why these games are no longer available on PS+ Collection and why eventually we might see remasters/remakes of these games. Yeah I know Gravity Rush was already remastered.

I mean Helldivers 2 is coming Day 1 to PC so this is nothing new. People are just going to try and twist what they can after that recent Microsoft statement.
pretty much, this is just stupidity being pushed by Xbox fanboys as the latest form of SonyToo™ (just like when they tried to claim that PlayStation was going to have DRM just like Xbox One)

Helldivers II coming to PC day 1 doesn’t mean a damn thing about other games like Wolverine 🙄

It seems Sony needs another PS3 wake up call.
Sadly the newer generation & some of the older ones have become too laxed and will just sit in the corner and be quiet.

The counter theory is if you make release many Sony games on PC too fast and too day one, then the PS gamer will sell their console and go PC. So Steam makes more 30% cuts and then all the sub plan money, 30% third party cuts and 100% digital first party cuts disappear as a gamer goes PC.

Then again the theory cant be that ironclad as they even stated GAAS games will be day one PC.

Believe it or not, not everyone wants to game on PC.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
eh, probably just GaaS games.

Otherwise, if this strategy doesnt affect PS ecosystem, Sony will continue to do it.
If it does affect PS ecosystem, Sony would probably change their strategy again.

Did some ppl miss the PlayStation games thats already ported to PC?

Did some ppl miss that Helldivers 2 is launching day one on PC?

Yea Sony is moving more and more to PC but they are doing it in a weird way. Like why isn't GT7 on PC? Why isn't Ghost and Demon Souls and R&C 2016? I just don't get the strategy.

How to devalue your console in 3 easy steps.
As a PC gamer ? Can't be more happy.

But in general ? You are 100% right.

It's bad enough consoles not only inferior ports to PC, they also charge you to play online. But all this can be swallowed for the sake of the exclusives game experience you should get on consoles that differentiate it from owning a PC.

But nope they gotta fuck that too.

I love my spider man 2 edition ps5 and my Xbox halo limited edition series X. But man lol... These guys on top of the management have lost their mind. They are 0ld. They are no longer care about anything but short time profit before they retire and zero care for the future brand

PlayStation 5 sales.decline or not as high as PS4 same time period ( or even if it's the same and no increase ) is because your games on PC now. Not because the console sales are flattened.

One look at the switch should give you a hint. But nope.

We already know Wolverine is coming to PC, via the Insomniac leak.

Day one is inevitable. PC is getting PlayStation ports at a faster rate than PS5 gets new games. Eventually we’ll be caught up, and the time between ports will shrink to the point where it’s day one.

PC is king, it always will be.
It never was. . till MS decided to be the first of stupid but releasing their games on PC day one. then Sony decided oh we gotta be stupid too and do the same. but we are more greedy and retards so we will release the game FULL price 2 years later.

what was the sales of the latest PS games on PC ? because they keep on declining but I remember the last 2 or 3 games sales were a joke.

If MS and Sony focus their games on their consoles only like it was before ? even the price of the GPU market will hit rock bottom because not much incentive to even buy a powerful PC anymore.

You're views are so outdated. A relic of system war nonsense that will get left behind in the dust. Catch up bro

Nah man. I am mainly a PC gamer ever since the Xbox one era where decided to go Xbox and PC.

I have a 7950x 3D and Strix 4090. I am happier this way to be honest. I still have my consoles. Xbox still sealed and PS5 for its exclusive games.

You're views are so outdated. A relic of system war nonsense that will get left behind in the dust. Catch up bro

Right.. that is why the video game market is heading to a crash. because you are " catching up " lol.

All what I stated was facts. not views. I do not want to have a view about video game future or which plastic box win in sales. I do not have a stock in either company nor do I give a flying fuck who wins.

if anything. they both are getting stomped by a 2017 hardware from Nintendo that cant run games properly at 720p 30 fps most of the time. heh

Chill out man you can keep playing your 20-30 fps and low settings games. Everyone will be happy.

Luckily we have the numbers thanks to the insomniac leaks and theyve spent nowhere near 100m on all those ports combined, in fact many of those ports had a higher return on investment percentage than the original releases of those games because the ports were so cheap.

While the ports made less money in total, the budget for them was so much lower that spider-man port RIO percentage was around 10x as high as the 2018 game and in less time. So its a way better investment than making a low budget AA (yes AA) game which they could have made on $20mil budget.

Nah, PC is a required pillar - just like mobile.

Games cost way too much money to make now, and console game sales are not enough. That’s the reality of how things are now. You want big multimillion dollar blockbuster AAA games? Be prepared for other platforms to have access to that same game. And it’s way less money to put them there.

Don't be so quick with that statement. While PS Studios are being praised for their quality they don't all sell like hotcakes.

Sackboy, Returnal and Ratchet didn't break the bank for Sony recently I believe.

And if you go back you also have games like The Order, Days Gone, The Last Guardian, Tearaway, Gravity Rush, etc... All quality games, some of them even great that didn't sell as much as expected. You even have Driveclub, a fantastic racing game that performed so bad Sony decided to shut down the studio. Hell, didn't TLOU2 also slightly under-performed vs what they expected?

You consoles fanboys are weird, you're all out here requesting 300 million AAA games to feel good about your favorite box but also buy your games physical (making your favorite company lose 50% of the revenue in the process) or straight up buying second hand making them a fat ZERO.
And on top of it you cry when these companies are shutting down studios or when they are trying to sell their games on more platforms to maximize revenue.

Unbelievable.
