Not to be a dick about this, but does anyone else think they may have done a review of upcoming product for the year and come to the conclusion that nothing on the slate is going to move the needle for them?

Not suggesting that their line-up is in any way bad, just that there isn't an obvious breakout hit on there that's going to radically change their fortunes over the next 12 months. I mean, Senua's went from being presented as the equivalent of a God Of War-style blockbuster to now being pushed more as a prestige "art" project with some commercial appeal.

The fact they need to hold a business update event heavily implies there’s something significant to convey.

If they were going to just be releasing a few games on a case by case basis, he could have directed people to his earlier comments.

I suspect he’ll try to appease the nut jobs by saying it’s not everything, but in reality it will be practically everything.

It won’t be everything at first. But what he won’t say is a denial that it won’t be everything eventually. So yeah, ultimately everything. Just in a stupid roundabout way of saying it.

That confirms it.

If Xbox were going third-party then Phil would have said so in the tweet.

Next week they'll announce two or three games are going to PS and Nintendo, and that's it. No Starfield or Halo on Playstation etc.

Everyone was making a mountain out of a molehill.
Are you serious?? xDDD

It doesn't matter if its one, two or three games eventually they'll all start coming out on all platforms. This is just them preparing their fanbase for the future.

If you like xbox great you can keep playing with their hardware (either they make it themselves or not). If not enjoy it in other platforms.

Like I said many months ago they were literally 1 platform away from becoming 3rd party.
I'm on PC where they are already third party (or i suppose second party really).
I do like Xbox though and always said it on here. They have done a lot for PC. I'd also be gutted if they dropped consoles, even though i will never buy any console again. Just a lot of fond memories from the 360 gen and orig Xbox.

Dont care about what games they put where, just want them to keep hardware. And i'm genuinely certain they will, at least for next gen. I have talked many times on here about how i feel there will only be 2 more console gens anyway before one or all of them go streaming and subsciption.

Feel there will be a lot of tears on here next week when Phil tells us Xbox consoles are going nowhere, and all this ends up being what the orig rumour was, HiFi Rush and Sea of Theives (and possibly other MP or live service centric games) being ported to other consoles.
Possibly the usual 'case by case' message in terms of other games coming to other consoles, maybe 1 year after release on Xbox etc.

But the console is still important to them, Gamepass is still important to them, Gamepass needs hardware, etc, etc.

Sorry, there's just too much leaking here for me to believe this. I believe the decision has already been made and that they were planning on gradually conditioning their fans to accept that games were going to go multiplatform, possibly after a timed exclusivity period. It would have started small with Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves. Then Starfield would have been announced after the DLC released. By their June showing they would have started including language about timed exclusivity for certain titles like Indiana Jones ("Play it First on Xbox", or some such).

I don't expect them to drop hardware immediately a la Dreamcast but, over time, there will be less reason to ever purchase a single Xbox branded piece of hardware.

Selling the consoles on the cheap and still finishing 3rd told them no one cares about the console.

As soon as ps5 become readily available, people stopped buying xbox. Just so happens in coincided with the train wreck that was starfield being released

I mean it makes sense to do it next week for people to cool off a bit and be more at peace when he officially announces games going to other platforms. It’s telling though that he isn’t shutting down any of the rumours going around.

I remember when they got Activision and Call of duty they were saying it would kill Sony. But that was the stepping stone to multiplayer for them. Same with the Bethesda deal.

I dont like Jim Ryan style but you cannot deny the man is an absolute beast.

In a few years span he litteraly managed to obliterate its most prominent, ten times richer competitor and forced him out of the market. This is something very few high profile CEOs can be proud of.

It's like the perfect way to go out, like a true boss.

You can't close out your career better than this

No tears, just frustrated that I feel they should of done a much better job with Xbox since 360 and people have defended and applauded them for barren years, mediocre releases and constant lapping up buzzwords like “we hear you “ “we are listening”

Wanting them to be the best it can be isn’t a negative. It’s the bullshit and the nonsense narratives people push that irk me.
Them bringing games to other platforms, and them "being the best they can be" are not mutually exclusive. Hypothetically speaking, with a larger base to sell too, they can invest more money into their projects. I realize this doesn't guarantee great games, but I'm just giving an example.
