Sony isn't changing its strategy

Sony has been with the same strategy since 2019 when it started releasing its games on PC, I don't understand why every 3 months in each tax report they have to repeat the same thing in a loop, and almost always this misinformation comes from the Xbox fanbase that they want Sony does the same as Xbox since 2016 and releases its games on PC day one, knowing why...

We got an awesome PvE MP game from Sony, now we just need an awesome PvP one and the they can take their foot off of the GaaS for a while.

Concord is PvP, but I don't expect them to take their foot off of the GaaS.

There are a lot of different GaaS genres where Sony can attempt access to market share. Not everything is a shooter.

It's funny because of how many people's double standards work,.

Sony is much closer to release all their games on day 1 on pc than xbox is on playstation, right now we have all the main playstation sagas (uncharted, god of war, ratchet and clank...) available on pc, and they recently released a game on day 1 on pc.

Microsoft hasn't done anything like that yet, but hey, xbox on playstation on day 1 is confirmed if you read between the lines but playstation on pc no way!

What he says in the video, which is a few weeks old now, is about changing their strategy. Expanding to PC, mobile and cloud. But they are already on PC so what does this "expansion" mean?
I believe, like most(?), PC expansion means service titles day one. Maybe a bigger selection and shorter window for other titles to come to PC? I just do not think they are ready to risk the PlayStation console for day one PC releases of their bigger, single player titles. Who knows though? We are all guessing until we see them start making moves.

That "double standard" works both ways. "PlayStation on PC day one is confirmed, but xbox on PlayStation no way". But this is a silly argument since it takes statements made by various people and concocts a "double standard" out of thin air.

I think you are exactly right. Service titles day one on PC makes perfect sense really. Helldivers 2 proved that. Even still, I can't look at this and say Sony hasn't changed their strategy. Seems to be a pretty obvious change to me. Not the everything on PC change that some (including me) are hoping for though.

Then feed me with diverse exclusives. Give me a first party RPG, RTS, Simulation.....just cut back on the third-person action extravaganzas.

There are tons of those games available on PC.

Why do you want them to develop a bunch of games that are better suited to PC and keyboard and mouse controls?

I know I come across as a Pony but I play on PC more than consoles. I would be happy with day one PC releases. I just do not think Sony can afford to take the risk like Microsoft can. After all, Microsoft has a longer history in PC gaming than they do with consoles. Sony is too reliant on the PlayStation console/brand to go all in unless something catastrophic happens to the console business. That is not to say they will never get there, I just think it will be a veeeery slow trickle if they do.

Saying it for years and it hasn't happened still

Me for years now:

Granted, I think we are seeing the ramp up into the reality of it all, it was easier to coast along the idea of them not coming to PC so quickly when the hardware was selling so well, but it's not the case anymore. Not that it's selling poorly, but it's not the hot commodity it was years ago, and with no giant/high profile exclusives to push the hardware this year, they have to really consider their bottom line.

Also, I'd say we haven't really seen Sony discussing software across platforms like PC/mobile nearly to the same degree as they have in the recent months. Or seen day and date launches like with Helldivers 2.

Same here. PC gamer with a PlayStation lean. No secret there. Yeah, I think it will be a slow process as well, but the lack of growth in the console market is a concern and we know how much stockholders love growth.

Their plans for PC: some of their game (not all) will be ported to PC, around 2 years of more after their original release on PS. In the case of some GaaS that may be ported (GT7, MLB and Firewall Ultra weren't) will release on PC day one. They will partner (or already partnered) with some Asian studio for some Asian focused title focused mainly on mobile+PC which I assume will also release on console (think Genshin Impact but with a Sony IP). On top of that, PS+ cloud gaming.
I'm more interested in these new multiplayer titles...are they gonna keep doing day and date. He says there's been no change but Helldivers 2 already represents a change.

Single player games I can't wait a couple of years for. It's not that serious. I'll be picking up Horizon Forbidden West when it drops...God of War Ragnarok seems to have mixed feelings from what I can tell...cool with waiting on that. FF7 Rebirth...I''ll wait.

Rise of the Ronin is coming next month.
Funnily enough, they could have a new RTS this gen if they really wanted, No Heroes Allowed! VR was a thing on PS4 and it was really unique.

Really, the only single player game from Sony I want to see on pc is Ghosts of Tsushima, it's one of my favorite games on the PS4 and I haven't touched it since release. I'd love to replay it at 60fps/ultrawide with mods. I'm hopeful they'll release it this year with the movie.

Same. I got bored with Ghost of Tsushima once I got so overpowered that the battles were no longer a challenge. Same thing happened on Horizon Zero Dawn. I ended up getting all the suns and getting what felt like really overpowered weapons and didn't finish on PS4. I did double dip on HZD on PC and did finish it there...the game just felt so much better on PC (once the initial kinks were worked out). Finished GoW 2018 on PS4 so I didn't double dip...though if it gets a good sale or a bundle with Ragnarok I might bite.

But yea would love to see GoT.

It doesn't just mean service titles day 1, that was already the plan.

The plan here is for more PC Support in general. It means quicker expansion of Nixxes who is already expanding quickly. It means PSVR2 PC Support, it means more titles coming to PC and sooner, whether it be brand new titles or back catalog titles.

In some cases, I think we'll see games hitting PC as soon as 3 months later or 6 months later rather than 12-24+ months.

We still haven't seen GT7 on PC for example, that's a big problem. Especially with how well it is doing after the movie. This was a missed opportunity.

I hope this is the case. Sooner the better but I would still wait if it's single player. Not spending what I expect to be 5-600 dollars to have day and date access to games I know will play better on PC.

However, I could see a world where Naughty Dog announces their new IP alongside PS5 Pro and I might lose my willpower.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if Sony starts making Gaming PCs that come with AMD video cards, Inzone Gaming monitors, Dual Sense controllers, e.t.c.

They probably regret getting out of the Vaio brand though they still retain 5% ownership. There is a complete lack of an enterprise solution for non macbook laptops for example.

When you look at PlayStation Link, it should probably be renamed to Sony Link or something like that and integrated across all their products, TVs, mobile phones, playstation, and all their headsets.

Most people on console I believe are there for the form factor rather than it getting games before PC. There are people who only play CoD or Fifa on console, instead of playing it on PC.

100% I agree, this gen I find Sony’s 1st party games soooooo dull.

Thank god for 3rd party games, it’s my only reason I still keep my PS5 around.

They can't, their entire developer catalog is comprised of people in the highest ivory towers who cost $300K a head annually, and require 6 - 8 years and $300 million USD to produce a game.

Lol, what was the last internally-developed Sony RPG? The Legend of Dragoon? Literally the only one?

Try reading what people write before responding. It helps.

They sold off Vaio a decade ago. The market for pre-built premium gaming PCs doesn't exist anymore and it won't come back no matter what brand you slap on the box. People either build their own or pay a website to do it for them. Thinking Sony or anyone else can come in and be successful producing their own pre-built gaming PCs to be sold in Best Buy shows a colossal misunderstanding of the PC market.

  • If you read what I wrote before responding and embarrassing yourself, you would have seen that I said they sold the brand off.
  • The pre-built premium gaming PC market doesn't exist? Can someone tell Alienware?
  • Wait so you're saying there IS a market for it as you just said websites do it.
  • Anyone else? like Alienware?
  • Gaming PCs aren't the only market for which Vaio could have had success which ultimately comes down to profit margin. There isn't an enterprise Windows alternative to the Macbook Air or the Macbook Pro at the same price. Sony could have fit that hole.
    • Margin can come from anywhere like contracts with AMD, building your own monitors, including some of your own parts e.t.c.
  • Who said anything about needing to sell computers in physical retail... I swear people love their strawman arguments

Nobody serious about playing PC games buys an Alienware. They're vastly overpriced for what you get. Again, most people either build their own or go to a website and have someone custom build their PC for them. Pre-built PCs like Alienware and the shit they sell in Best Buy are scams to fleece people who don't know what they're doing.

Most people?

I love when certain gamers think they represent the market.

Alienware is worth over 3 billion dollars and is extremely profitable. Not everyone is building their own desktops and the market for gaming laptops is also growing and I don't know anyone who builds their own laptops.

Helldivers 2 has been under development since 2016 so if any change was decided was back then.

But guess what, Helldivers 1 was already released in a few months in PS3+PS4+Vita+PC. No change there. And since then Sony were already releasing even PC only stuff via Sony Pictures Virtual Reality, Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. / UNTIES or even before Helldivers 1 with Sony Online Entertainment or Psygnosis.

And even before (or during) the PS days, they also published games (some of them exclusive) on PC via CSG Imagesoft / Sony Imagesoft. And well, Sony debuted in gaming making in the '80s their own MSX computers and publishing games (some of them exclusive) for them.

So no, Helldivers 2 hasn't been any change. Sony has a long history of PC games, PC releases day one and even PC exclusive games.

I wish they'd change their strategy and release cool shit like a new Motorstorm or Wipeout. Or a new Gravity Rush game.

Maybe a gameplay-first God of War game again without mediocre writing about a depressive dad and his little dipshit. Maybe a new Sly game?

Yeah, and those games didn't sell as well as their current games do.

So they are now producing more of what the people want.
