Just got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed.

I was eating the day after, all 4 of mine were grown in fully so I wasnt sore for to long. My sister on the other hand had all 4 impacted and her cheeks swelled up and bruised, she was on icecream, jello, freeze pops and liquids for awhile.
The bleeding for you should stop the next day or two, you should feel much better tomorrow when you wake up.

Ice cream, soup and pineapple juice. Pineapple juice helped with the swelling even if the acid didn't feel that great :/.

Tomorrow's the day GAF. All four out :(

Anybody get knocked out but still have a hard time with recovery the day after? That's what I'm really worried about...

I've had two out, the other two may or may not exist.

I just got them done when I was having a filling done. No idea why anyone would need to be knocked out. Local anesthetic (novocaine/lidocaine) is more than enough.
He did the filling and then said "Why not get this wisdom tooth out while we're at it?". Then he pulled it out and put some gauze in and said not to use a straw.

If you get decent painkillers there is nothing to worry about. Seriously. And once that first day is over with, the pain isn't very bad.

All of mine are impacted, so they'd have to cut into the gums no matter what.

Be sure to take the medicine provided. Do not skip it and take Advil instead, that shit does not work. I got mine out when I was 16 and boy was it a mistake to take the Advil..

I got them removed years ago, all four, and it's really not that big of a deal as I thought it was.

With the right meds, the discomfort is very manageable, and the only thing that really bothered me were the giant gaping bloody holes in the back of my mouth.
Just put your food in the blender, because chewing is going to be a real chore for a few days.

The procedure itself is kind of scary though, I felt nothing, but the sound of hearing my teeth crack in my jaw was horrifying, and quite violent.

Wisdom teeth, braces, gum surgery and two root canals. Ain't no thing.

Brush and floss after every meal kids! Or at least chew gum and avoid snacking between meals.

You'll bleed for 2-3 days or so, but you'll ooze blood for a week (4-7 days). As in it won't be "bleeding" but when you wake up in the morning you'll be spitting out some blood from blood that's still escaping through micro tears as it's healing.

For eating...you're not gonna be able to eat solid foods for a while. Try protein drinks and/or blend foods. What I did sometimes was blend soup like chunky beef and chicken noodles.
This!
Worst time in my life ;P

I do remember pulling out a razor sharp shard of bone out of the wound while brushing my teeth, around a week after the procedure.
I don't know whether it was bone coming from my lower jaw or a remaining sliver of the actual tooth.

Freaked me out a little though, I thought they fucked something up.

Yeah... have fun and gl, that's going to suck. I had eight (8) wisdom teeth removed and it was real rough

How much does this all cost?

I need all four of my wisdom teeth removed too.

Personally for us it was $500 a tooth (or rather, the entire procedure was $3500 for 7 teeth + anesthesia). However, x-rays only showed 7, when he found the 8th we got it for free because he'd never had to do that many before.

Had all four of mine out at once, and it was the easiest thing i have ever done at the dentist. Took longer to get all the freezing in then it did for them to pull them (none were impacted, but 3 werent fully out).

Had it done at like 10am, bleeding had pretty much stopped by the time i went to bed, and the next day I was rocking some scrambled eggs. Think I went into work the next day as well, so I really wouldnt worry about it too much

500/tooth sounds about right if they're impacted. There's also the anesthesia and x-rays. Ended up paying around $1200 after insurance.

I decided to be cheap and got my wisdom teeth removed using just novocaine. I have pretty low sensitivity to novocaine, though, so I felt the last one as it was being drilled apart. Quite a doozy.

I need to have one removed, that has come in crooked. I need to set up the appt.

However, the other 3 are fine. Should I go ahead and just get them out, or leave them be?

God damn. I have 2 wisdom teeth that are impacted and broken as hell and definitely need to be removed. But I'm a huge wuss when it comes to that kind of pain. Also, I'm broke and I lost my insurance about 3 months ago. This is going to be a nightmare.

If the other wisdom teeth came through fine, and cause no problems whatsoever, why would you remove them?

I had all 4 removed over the previous summer. I got home after the surgery and asked my mom to rent Speed Racer on iTunes while I was still drugged up.

On the second day, I ate a slice of pizza >:)

I only had 3 wisdom teeth, a 4th never developed.

I got them all removed at once too. Wasn't really too bad.

I support renting Speed Racer if you are recovering from wisdom teeth extraction.

I've heard that they can cause problems later on in life, and that the longer you wait, the worse it can be (I'm 32 now).

If you can afford it, then getting them out may be a good idea. They don't do anything for you and are hard to brush and floss, so you may have problems with them later.

I got all 4 of mine taken out when I was 18. I got lucky as I didn't have any problems like dry socket or anything. It did take 2 months for the holes to close up though; I think the teeth were bigger than usual or something. I hated eating for the duration cause so much stuff would get stuck in the holes, so I mostly ate jello and soups.

Apparently I'm sensitive to the laughing gas. I told the doctor I was getting nauseous, and he put a bin nearby in case I threw up, but he switched me back to oxygen and gave me anti-nauesea meds throw the IV.

Dentist didn't give you one of those curved syringes? They worked wonders on my sockets.

Not really minding it right now, the gauze how ever is starting to annoy me. I would like to eat but my mouth is still bleeding just a bit and if I swallow too much blood I feel like I have to barf.

How long until all this shit is over with?

Did the same thing a couple years ago. All 4 at once. Most painful thing in my life. Hope you don't get fucked up as I was. Drooling blood for a week and had to take painkillers like candy so I wouldn't blow my brains out from the pain. Asshole Doctor lied to me.

I had seven wisdom teeth. I don't remember recovery being that bad, though, oddly. Was on a pretty strong painkiller (Vicodin?) for the first couple days and then switched to Tylenol. The worst part was constantly putting new gauze/cotton in my mouth for the first three or four days because of the constant bleeding. After about the inital week, though, I didn't really have any pain or bleeding, it was just a pain to eat softer foods to avoid dry socket.

I remember having my wisdom teeth out like it was yesterday. They knocked me out with the gas and when I woke up, I couldn't even walk. I then didn't go to school for two weeks. I took off from school one week to heal from the surgery and then got sick so I took off another week.

I remember the time well because the Monday or so after the surgery was the fire in Rhode Island where Great White played and the story was breaking news on MSNBC.

All 4 at once??? Wow, that must suck.

I had one removed 2 years ago, they had to cut up quite a bit of flesh to get an angle to pull it out, even had to cut off parts of the tooth to get a decent grip on it.

I have to remove the next one in two weeks. Can't say I'm looking forward to it.

I didn't bleed that much after the operation. The dentist did quite a good job at stitching it. Didn't even feel anything until about 6 or 7 hours later.

I would suggest a light soup with low salt. Just nothing with meat or bread. And stay away from yoghurt or milk products and the bleeding should be over pretty soon. Try using a trick I used after my last wisdom tooth OP, keep an empty bowl next to you and spit out the blood before eating. Repeat until the soup is finished or cold.

Speaking of cutting up flesh, when I had mine removed they punctured my nasal canal. Had a nose bleed for about 3-4 days.

So on Friday I have a wisdom tooth being taken out that's cracked.

What do I need to buy food-wise tomorrow? Some simple tips for after the surgery?

Get a variety to prevent you from going crazy:

- Those alternative-meal protein shakes (Ensure, Special K, or whatever)
- Soup. I blended those chunky meat vegetable soups and that gives you meat in liquid form.
- Jello, pudding
- Ice cream
- Applesauce
- Mashed potatoes and gravy. I got my dad to buy me like 8 containers of those

Real pain is when you have to keep food out of the holes for the next few months until they close up completely. Get a water pik for after the first week. DON'T swish or rinse the first few days. DON'T brush the first few days. Last thing you want is dry socket. Keep those clots in the holes!!

I ate lots of ice cream and pudding. Brothy soups. Those Dole mandarins in syrup in the plastic cups they have for school or snacks.

Edit - Oh yeah Breakfast shakes.

Mine was 100 each and work covered 90%. So it was 40 bucks for all 4. Would have been over 1000 each for a root canal, plus there was no guarantee I wouldn't need to come back in the future and get them pulled anyway. Pay 4000 and I might have to come back? WTF? No sale.

I had all four out with minimal anesthetics and was awake during the process. Saw them carve and cut and pull the things out. I remember thinking after seeing the first one come out "Well, that does it. If I weren't committed to going before, I am now." Because I had to have them removed to serve in Brazil.

Anyway, we stopped to check out a guitar store for my little brother on the way home and my anesthesia wore off in the car and I totally began to freak out in pain. Felt like my head was splitting open.

FUN TIMES.

Having teeth removed isn't always as simple as pulling them.

Maybe each one has multiple roots. That would be the only reason it's so high. More roots = more money. Mine were simple with only one main root in each. My dentist said she's seen up to 8 roots in one tooth before.

Certainly a possibility. I was just saying that it's not always as simple as having a tooth pulled to have it removed. Plenty of factors can come into play that would cause the price/tooth to be high.
