Media Create Sales: Week 24, 2012 (Jun 11 - Jun 17)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
B/W had 1.88M final preorders and B/W 2 1.16M one week before release meaning something like 1.3-1.4M final preorders. Comgnet fails again.

No reports so far about BW, and especially 3DS sales due to its release?

@Pupi18: Numbers are a Japanese exclusive, now XD

So, if we take the ratio between pre-orders and first week sales from BW and apply it to BW2, we could be hypothetically be looking at a 1.77-1.91 million first week.

I'm not certain if it'll go that high, but it would be one hell of a result. Outselling first weeks of everything in the franchise that aren't the original Black and White.

thought it's only for [very] old or young people who have problem with simple mathematics operations

Hard to be more wrong than this. :p Get the Brain Age + Sudoku download on 3DS in the U.S. for Club Nintendo coins. It's the cheapest way to get a taste for the game (it includes some of the basic tests for Brain Age along with the Sudoku). It may not be your cup of tea, but it may, at least, alleviate some of this misconception. :lol

My major is engineering and naturally work with complex mathematics daily, will I still find it useful? (honest question)

"Useful" depends on if you enjoy math and testing your Brain.

I'm assuming it'll either be just a new Brain Training game with Satan Kawashima or a completely goofy spinoff where he's training you to become a demon.

Watch the Japanese Nintendo Direct segment on this game to see an example of how it's working this time.

It should be an eShop release with regular DLC.

It is an eShop release, as all 3DS titles from that point from Nintendo will be on the eShop, too.

Japanese PSN Ratings Report:
Persona 4: The Golden - 1,417
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Battle Destiny - 568
Hello Kitty & Me! Block Crash V - 71
Gravity Daze - 5,293

Remember these are just the people who purchased the games via PSN, and decided to rate them. It gives a bare minimum for how the game has sold on the Japanese PlayStation Store.

Gravity Daze is really an outlier here. Persona 4 and Gundam sort of match their first week sales ratio, but Gravity Daze seems much more download-version heavy with these numbers.

Edit:
I think the launch week download-version numbers for Gravity Daze were around Persona's 4 number, right?

PSV YTD 291.069

WII YTD 236.149

Before this week the PSV YTD was only beating the Wii's YTD by 55k, what the 3DS does at the bare minimum each week.

lol.

If only DQX was released this week, its GBA vs PS3 all over again. (In America)

When should we know Pokèmon's performance? Today or tomorrow?

It was just under 2k IIRC, and yea most titles don't even get close to that. HSG took a long time to get to 2k, and it's still second most voted title I think.

Looking through JPSN just confuses me. That Ciel No Surge game has like 1.5k ratings, and I swear I saw that New Little King's Story actually had more than Gundam.

Interesting stats. Thanks!

I have more. I calculated download numbers for like 94 games on VC and looked at more than a hundred more that sadly didn't have any data.

Not surpisingly, the most downloaded one was SMB with ~245560.

But that really just backs up my point that whether it was ported or not didn't really matter much in the long run. From the stats you gave, FFIII was still the best-selling title on VC (by a long shot), even after it had just received a substantial remake very recently. The game sold well because people like the game - not because it hadn't been re-released before. As I posited before, if the game had received a GameBoy Color or WonderSwan port in 1999 - do you really think that would have affected the DS sales all that much in 2006?

There were only 1,4 million copies to begin with, that circulated on the used market until only retro shops like Super Tomato had FC games. When I hunted for the FC FFs on the net in the late 90ies there were very few sellers and when I found one, the copies were quite expensive. I had no trouble finding FFV though for a good price, which circulated 2,5 million copies and on a console that was still in shops.

In 2002 in Kyoto I had no problem finding all the SFC FFs for 1000 yen, with boxes. I one time even saw the FFI+II cart for FC, but not the original releases for any FC FF.

Of course in Osaka or Tokyo there were shops which surely had it, but it wasn't readily available everywhere. As opposed to FFV onwards (2,5 million used copies plus PS and GBA ports) but also to FFIV, which only had the same 1,4 million copies as III but on a console still in most stores, and the same two ports as the other SFC ones.

People liking FFIII so much also contradicts polls and surveys, were usually FFVII, X and IV are the most popular. III definitely isn't more liked than IV.

There's really no other explanation for the bigger DS III vs. IV numbers other than saturation. IV had higher production values, with voice acting. The VC release doing so big after the DS one also would contradict people having disliked the remake and therefore avoiding the follow up.

....it's Dr. Kawashima..never played Brain Age/Training?

Actually it's Professor Kawashima (Kawashima-kyouju), as opposed to Doctor (hakase). No idea why Nintendo made him a Doctor in the West.

Probably to give him more credibility for regular people who would trust a "Dr." (i.e. Medical Doctor) over a Professor for helping their Brain improve. As long as he has a Ph.D., it's still an appropriate title, though. :lol

oh, really. I had just been assuming it was Kawashima-sensei, so either translation could have been correct.

His name, with the kyouju, is part of the game title. It's even on the box posted. And sensei is used for so many people, even manga-ka. The first association still is teacher, so professor would be closer than Dr. anyway. And since Kawashima is the only one talking in the games, no one addresses him as sensei either. In the Nintendo Direct broadcasts Iwata refers to him as Kawashima-kyouju too.

I don't blame you, but Nintendo for establishing this usage. These kind of translation decisions are puzzling, although donny likely nails it with the PR consideration.

I think the relative amount of ratings/downloads is influenced by how much geek/otaku appeal a title has. That's why some of the best selling games such as HSG are relatively low in ratings compared to retail sales, and games such as e.g. Ciel no Surge are high.

Dunno about Dynasty or Orochi.

And I don't see Pro Baseball Vita doing much.

When's the last time a level 5 game didn't bomb? 3, 4 years ago...

I'm sure they've made mad money off of Layton, Inazuma Eleven, and LBX. They're just going for three 3DS strike outs with Cinderella RPG, Guild 01, and LBX Explosive Boost. Maybe we can count Guild 01 as a ball if Time Travelers craters.

I wonder how Anarchy Reigns is going to do. Anyone know how well the demo was received in Japan? I downloaded it on my JPSN account and loved it but I'm pretty much a Platinum games fan at this point so I may not be the most impartial judge.

You can't use Gravity Daze like this because it has a demo.
Demo ratings count for the whole game as well.

Since 2010 Inazuma 3/Ogre, Ninokuni DS, Layton 5, LBX/Boost, Inazuma Strikers/2012X and Inazuma Go were all probably decent earners, though I'd suspect all of them did less than Level 5 was shooting for.

The only complete bombas were Ninokuni PS3, Girls RPG and Guild 01.

Ni no kuni was out before summer '11 right?
It released holiday 2010. My impression is that it underperformed but it still sold well for a new ip. They still did very well with prof. Layton 3ds and inazuma eleven for the wii during 2011. Regardless level 5 was doing well for longer than you remember.

The ps3 version was a definite bomb.
