Media Create Sales: Week 17, 2013 (Apr 22 - Apr 28)

I'm not sure that the Wii U version's sales merit an HD Version of MH4. The 3DS version has sold better than the Wii U version in the US (I believe the same was stated for France?), the total US sales are similar to MH3's, and the 3DS version of MH4 is online capable already.
Cutting the Wii U SKU may just reduce cannibalization.

2/5 Wii U and 3/5 3DS That is a pretty favourable split for the Wii U version in the US. It was natural to see the 3DS version out do the Wii U version just due to install base alone.

Maybe. But when Capcom greenlighted this project, I don't think they thought that the Wii U install base would be quite so bad. Since the sales are similar to Tri's, it suggests that users were buying one version or the other, not both. They might have sold less without the Wii U version, but it certainly didn't cause the franchise to grow much.

If memory serves, Sven's story was that Monster Hunter needs to be online-enabled and on a console to sell in America. 4 doesn't need the Wii U to be online enabled, and 3U suggests that the platform doesn't matter that much.

Not saying that MH4 won't hit Wii U, but I just don't think Capcom would see it necessary anymore.

Yup, that's true.

My pet, completely unsubstantiated theory for why MH4's textures look like ass is because of better forwards compatibility with a Wii U version. Games that have a "low performance" mode on PC as well as certain games that received a downport to worse hardware exhibit graphics like that.

^^^The above makes more sense to me than this:

I think it looks bad because of the art direction they're going with along with the larger and opener environments.

And you're basically saying that they chose an art direction that makes the game look bad. Although texture quality wouldn't even be related to the parts you mention.

And, the WiiU version generates a higher revenue. I think they're okay with that.

everything besides MH3GHD and DQ10 sold poorly, sorry to disappoint your expectations

and considering DQ10 was 50k two weeks ago...

I did say software sales were (are) poor.
I just stressed the fact that those LTD should be updated (didn't you post somewhere updated LTD like Tekken at 20k or something like that?).

Port, not remake.
Can someone clarify the difference for me?
P4 Vita runs in PS2 resolution, using most of PS2 assets, and running the PS2 game-code. Most PS2->XBox ports had at least as many (or more) enhancements to them, and I never heard anyone call them remakes(even when the XBox port ran in HD), is it just because it's on a handheld now?

I'm saying the art direction they chose is terrible for the 3DS which leads to poor texture quality.

GEIMIN hasn't liked it in the past, when the full list is posted. Can just go to GEIMIN's site, if you don't mind using Google Translate to find a title.

So close, though Minna no Golf 5 still is the best selling SCE title of this generation.

[PS3] Minna no Golf 5 (SCE) {2007.07.26} - 461.054
[PS3] Minna no Golf 5 (PS3 the Best) (SCE) {2008.12.11} - 201.924

Total - 751.206

How's the advertising for SMT IV going? The game is gonna be out in Japan pretty soon.

I haven't checked the TV these last days, but in every game shop the game has a good promotion. Usually the adverts are in a good location, and is set as the next big 3DS game.

Also, there're some small adverts on the train, combinis and some other places.

Can you elaborate on how the art direction leads to poor texture quality? And since the game is for 3DS and Capcom know what they're developing for, you indeed claim Capcom decided to make the game look bad.

More enhancements then an extra 1/5th of game content? The game has a lot more stuff in it and it runs in widescreen. It's a remake because it's got a lot of different content that distinguishes it enough from the original game.

Persona 4 Golden is a barely upgraded port with extra content.

Persona 3 FES is a remake? No
KH HD Collection/FF X/X2 Collection are remakes? No

Resident Evil GC is a remake
MGS: TTS is a remake

to quickly get back to the PS4 discussion.

i found and diged up this kotaku ( yeah yeah ) article from march about a questionaire of what
the japanese think about PS4 or what the general opinion is about consoles in general.

i can't say wether those numbers are good or bad because there is nothing stated about the total amount of people these questions where asked to altough judging by the amount of answers quite alot

http://kotaku.com/5989103/heres-what-japanese-people-are-saying-about-the-ps4

while its true that whatever is said in here may change in the coming months and we know peoples opinions can change overnight it is still an interesting read.

it may also act as a counterargument against statements of "consoles are dead in japan .nobody cares about them"

. What were your initial impressions of the PS4?
WwIXVh5l.jpg

most people where apparently interested in the new final fantasy altough considdering what other games where shown on the 21st its not a big surprise.

price and software where also the biggest answers. again no surprises there.

what did surprise me is for the question : What functions or services are you interested in?

the two biggest where faster load times and surprisingly Graphics.

it might be that consoles in japan aren't as dead in japan as we think they are.

again this is also just me speculating so nothing is set in stone here.

The PS meeting was very western focused so that doesn't surprise me. Will be interesting to see Japanese third party support on PS4, exclusives, and SCEJ titles.

You are aware that this questionnaire is useless, right?

yes i am aware that in the long turn those answers may not matter or may be totaly irrelevant.
.
the main point i wanted to show is that consoles still hold sway and still(might ) have a future in japan instead of being pushed to irrelevancy by handhelds as some like to claim here (not targeting anyone).

And you showed your point with a useless survey? Mmh. I remember when Vita was nominated the most desirable platform in Japan :)
At one point it truly might have been the most must have thing in japan .
atleast until Monster hunter 3ds was anounced and the 3ds sales explosion + no third party support for vita .

and again the numbers on that article where less important to me then the message it had about the console still having sway there in japan.

Home consoles will still a future in Japan, sure, but this is not shown by a survey like the one you posted.

Look at Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, it looks pretty good for a 3DS game and runs it at an average 45fps. Look at the look they went for it. They didn't try to make it rough looking and stuff.

Now compare it to MH4. You can see a difference of what they are trying to go for. I don't think they could use better textures for the 3DS due to limitations on the hardware and what their target performance is.

Couldn't MH4's graphics be bad in order to enable online play in those more dynamic environments? I can't think of another twitch action game for 3DS with four player online aside from Kid Icarus Uprising. That had pretty rough models. It's more apparently from screenshots than in motion.

I don't think they'd make the 3DS game look bad for the same of a Wii U one. Monster Hunter 4 on 3DS is likely to sell much over two million. A Wii U version not so much. Why would Capcom damage the product with far higher sales potential for the sake of the product with less?

But without the WiiU version it would have grown less.
And, the WiiU version generates a higher revenue. I think they're okay with that.

It hasn't really grown. That's the point.
If the Wii U verison of MH3U wasn't released, how much lower would sales be?
Would the customers that would have bought the Wii U version instead buy the 3DS version? By the looks it if, yeah, they would.

Well Famitsu is out, looks like Compile Hearts' RPG is on PS3 in Japanese called フェアリーフェンサー エフ, and there's this new PS3/Vita game that I think is a Musou, could be wrong, it's called 魔装機神 PRIDE OF JUSTICE.

Just felt like letting you guys know.

Also the guy who leaked it said:

今後、朝に手に入る見込みがなくなったため水曜朝の記事は本日が最後となります。

Google says it's about it being the last Wednesday issue for the future? Can someone clarify?

Fairy Fencer F is the name of Compile Hearts' RPG. The other game is the third game in the Masou Kishin series (SRW related).

oh how attitudes change like the seasons around here...

If something is selling like dogshit, people will call it like it is. If you can't handle it, like you seem to not be able to based on all your posts in these threads maybe you should not post in here for your own health.

It's nice to see third parties continuing their strong Wii U support.

I don't think 3rd party support will signficantly change, but I'm giving them till E3 before thinking the entire Japanese industry has completely abandoned the thing.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Indeed.
Do you understand why am I insisting with the hybrid option? There are zero third party titles announced right now in Japan for Wii U. In Japan, where 3DS dominates and Nintendo is supposed to have the best external relationships here. No titles. Zero. Nada. Zeru tituli. Considering Nintendo has always looked first at Japanese market for their decisions, I feel they're seriously thinking about it.

THe biggest problem I think is that if the hybrid fails Nintendo could actually be knocked out of the console race, and if they try to have their cake and eat it too with multiple systems they could all cannibalize each other and Nintendo definitely cannot support 2 system. At least in the current method, their handheld can make some money. As a videogame only company having their eggs in one basket could be really dangerous.

What's particularly embarrassing is that 2/3rds of the games announced in this week's Famitsu are from companies Nintendo has done co-productions with. I guess when people said Namco Bandai co-developing Smash Bros. meant something they were referring to that being the only staff Namco Bandai were willing to put on a Wii U project.

Let's get real, third parties don't care and have nothing in the making. It would have been announcded or hinted at by now.

It could be that Nintendo is looked at as so desperate for 3rd party titles why should they invest in anything themselves. If Nintendo wants people to work for them, they'll do all the publishing work and pay for costs. It could be dangerous publishing Bravely Default because as we see with Dragon Quest, Square has stopped publishing the games all together.

Nothing exclusive for sure, but Ubisoft certainly surprised me with their ports on Wii U, and I wouldn't be shocked to see a few ports.

Wii U secret games! :lol

They already invested in the platform, so I'm guessing they want to see where things will go from after E3 or September.

I said it a few months ago and was laughed out of the room, but it is in Nintendo's best short term interests to pay out the nose for ports.

Because ports are better than nothing. And it becomes more and more alarming every day that they don't have them.
