All these new systems are nice but what I want to see at E3 is Persona 5. Please?

If the other guy's info is correct it sold 410k copies on a system that had an install base of 140 million. It's an absolute travesty that it only sold that many, but it's also unlikely to sell much more than that no matter how hard they market it. Granted that was in 2008 and the next-gen consoles were out, but that's still a very small number in the grand scheme of things. We need to step up, and by great games.

Nobody outside of Japan was paying any attention to the PS2 back in December of 2008/early 2009 in Europe. And once PS3s lost their backwards compatibility, a lot of people didn't have any way of playing it. Since then, the series has garnered a lot of buzz, but the re-releases that have followed have only released on PSP and Vita, the former being dead outside of Japan and the latter being almost dead everywhere. If P5 actually releases on a system people can play it on, it could do very, very well (relative to what Atlus usually does, at least).

I was thinking the other day, that would be a logical conclusion going by past years and Atlus, except that I think things have changed now for this series, the games are more popular now than ever but it has a very dedicated fanbase and while it's more popular than before it's not like it can sell 1-2m or something, it would be lucky to hit 1m world wide and that would be like the best selling thing Atlus has put out ever... So, what I'm getting at is that I think it can be a potential target for money hatting for nextgen (say PS4) even if it doesn't have the best visuals around (say, something made for PS3 but now hires AA'd and super clean) and releases early in the gen (1-2 year so) and skipping PS3 entirely, it's not as unlikely as it might seem actually imo considering the co-marketing dollars that they might get from something like that. Seeing even a port of 4 years old game is best thing PSVita has in Japan so far can show that it can be an appealing game to grab and shouldn't be very expensive either.

I agree with all of this. And Sony has their ear to the ground when it comes to the tastes of the core.

And I mean the actual core, not the mainstream CoD crowd. If they can see the value in indies and F2P MMOs, they can see Persona is worth something.

P5 would be cheap to nab and it would sell a few PS4s. Sounds like a good plan and again, an inexpensive one. That's the key. You sell some systems and win some brownie points with the most vocal, critical (often fickle) group.

I don't know if I agree with this. Personally I liked Persona 3 more than Persona 4. But really they're neck and neck. To think they can't strike gold a third time is pretty foolish. They clearly have a winning team.

I used to think the same thing, until I played P4G. That's when I realized just how powerful the story was. Don't get me wrong, but I think P3 has an amazing story that rivals P4's, but the direction in P4 is what gave it that extra gravitas. The narrative had near perfect pacing and great timing. The gameplay of P4 is on another level compared to P3. Hell, the Golden puts P3 in the ground in the gameplay department. It's a more tightly woven package.

I have a feeling P5 will be great, I'm just worried about getting my expectations high being that 99% of games just can't match it.

By the way, if we were going by solely story I'd put DDS2 above both P3&4. :p

Oh no. Do you realize what you've done? I can already hear the wailing call of "PERSONA ISN'T REAL SMT!"

... But it isn't. The first game was sold under the moniker "Megami Ibunroku" in Japan, same as Devil Survivor is now. Later Persona games dropped the "Megami _____" label entirely. Hell, Persona in the States was marketed as "Revelations: Persona" on the Playstation. The games are only all under the SMT umbrella in the West, in Japan they're marketed separately.

just to set the record straight before this conversation starts....Persona is not SMT, but both Persona and SMT are Megaten games.

Let's go with this.

I know. I just think it's funny how worked up some people get over it.

You could use the time you wait for P5 to play other SMT games, Persona fans.

I heard some Persona Spin-Off called "Shin Megami Tensei IV" is coming on 3DS, try to check it.

This would make me very happy. Especially if it was a PS4 game sometime next year.

Of course this probably won't happen =[

September TGS we'll see a 10 minute anime trailer like P3 & P4. Then I will loose my mind realizing I won't be able to play it in English for at least for a year.
Those trailers were from Famitsu, not TGS. P3, FES, P4, P3P, and P4G (along with the other contemporary MegaTens) were all revealed in Famitsu. The only one I'm not sure of is P4A. There's no reason to believe P5 would be revealed in a different manner.

TGS or a magazine reveal seems more likely for a Persona game, eh? Wasn't the latest SMT game revealed in Jump?

Persona 5 as PS4 launch title, BELIEVE

If the past is any indication I would say it will be a PS3 game after PS4 launch, but with PS4 not having PS3 BC, perhaps not.

You forgot the last part to your sentence, so I added it in for you.

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
Famitsu reveal, with a 20 minutes trailer like in the last 2 persona reveals.

With Catherine being out for Xbox 360 as well, do you guys think we will be seeing the next Persona game on Microsoft's console(s) too?

TGS or nothing.

I really hope Persona doesn't become the new sequel-begging franchise after Kingdom Hearts.

Absolutely.

I really don't care. I want it on PS4 or PSVita and that would be enough for me.

Multi? Well, if they do, they should bring every SMT game on every plattform too...

I'm less interested in the plattforms than I'm interested in the question whether it will be Persona 3.3.

Now Dantis, just because school uniforms are your fetish doesn't mean that the rest of us want to feel like we're playing an enjo kousai simulator.

As to the music, eh. I don't like jPop, but I think Meguro's best work was in DDS and Strange Journey. DDS is tops all around though.

I also don't think that Atlus has nothing new to show though. Maybe a new localization, maybe an HD collection (Digital Devil Saga?) but it isn't P5.

I imagine they're going to be showing SMTIV and probably the first English screens from Break Record.

Because it's a console launch year, I assume Japan will be keeping up with E3. Also, they do play more then animu waifu games, you guys. I doubt that Atlus is going to reveal P5, though I wouldn't be shocked if they did right after E3. Something big is obviously happening on the Final Fantasy front, and at least in the west, and I'd assume Japan, there is a big overlap in that crowd. I wouldn't want to be talking about my 2D cutscene cult hit PS3 swan song game while SE is over there teasing the glorious HD pretty boys and girls with zippers spectacle that people have been yelling about for the better part of the decade. Also, considering Arena, I wouldn't be shocked at a close to simultaneous release. Maybe a week, maybe a month. But with the P4 anime, P4A and Catherine doing so well, it's not a much of a risk. P5, whenever it releases, will sell.

I want to see Shenmue 3; it's been almost 11 years. What does Persona 5 and Shenmue 3 have in common? They're both niche titles that aren't really for E3. Wait for Famitsu to announce it.

Mhmm. Because Kaneko's and Soejima's art is defined by the school uniforms (Although as an aside, Soejima's uniforms do look pretty hip!) and Meguro's music is defined by J-Pop.

Things are sure gonna be interesting around here when it's finally announced.

'Twill be a truly frabjous day.

Are you caught up in the E3 excitement yet? Well, if you like scary things, you may want to stay up late for tonight’s special pre-E3 @GTTV episode at 1 a.m. on Spike TV, GameTrailers.com and streaming on Xbox LIVE. ATLUS has big news 4 a title coming early next year. You may need a nightlight though…

Is this thread really necessary? Do we really need a thread for each game that someone wants to see at E3? Because if so, someone give me privileges to create my MICROSOFT BETTER MAKE ANOTHER CRIMSON SKIES OR HEADS WILL ROLL thread so that we can really get this party started!
