It sounds like pubs can totally block trade ins or gifting of games if they want? 'Enabling' these things makes it sound like its opt-in, that the default is to not allow it?

I guess lending doesn't work here...a one time gifting option doesn't really accommodate that.

Say if you "gift" your game to a friend. Which is a one time deal. And he trades it in?

I don't understand how it is better than we thought. It seems like a restatement of the shit Phil Harrison tripped over a few weeks ago with one exception-- sounds like there will be a limited lending feature but not at launch (no time commitment given). No private sales, and potentially no used game sales depending on publisher.

Yep it is just as bad as people thought it was going to be, you are going to have to jump through hoops just play games, 24 hour warden prison cell check is still intact, no connection, no game, but you still use other features.

It is still anti used games, in addition to all the other things. Its basically going to require a thick manual to understand all the rules of this console, what you are allowed to, what is possible and what isent.

Good luck teaching this to the general public out there, what a mess. I'm a fucking nerd and I'm like 'Yeaaaaaaa, hmmm, ehh, no.'

Regardless of if these restrictions are as tight as originally expected, they are a convoluted mess and customers should not be having to jump through all these hoops to sell/trade/lend their legally purchased games.

You can sell your games but only at certain places and not privately, you can play offline but only for 24 hours on your own system or an hour on another system, you can lend games out, but only once and only if they've been on your friendlist for an arbitrary amount of time. Just try explaining that crap to the average parent when they wonder why their kid's Xbox won't play some games, or keeps demanding an internet connection - half of them have trouble trying to understand online passes as it is.

For people who are not reading it properly, basically they confirmed everything that was rumored, It's the worst case scenario.

The only thing that can save this, if there are a TON of GOOD exclusive games that get announced

The buy/sell/trade thread just took a hit.

No, actually it KILLED it

What do you mean this isn't bad? It pretty much confirmed what we expected.

1. Xbone requires a internet connection. If you don't check in within 24 hours, your system is essentially locked.

2. You can not borrow or rent games.

3. You CAN trade your games to friends but they must be on your friends list and once you trade it, it gets tied to their account. You can only trade the game ONE time.

4. Publishers will have the ability to block you from selling/trading the game.

Just because they worded it differently doesn't make it better.

I might be being super dense here, but for the 10 family member thing, I assume it is only 10 people linked under a "family" account plan thing.

Just like you can have different gamertags linked to one account, so everyone in that "account" can play for example Forza or Titanfall.

Or I missing something?

As for the rest of it, going to Uni In Sep (hopefully) with (probably) rubbish internet so err...doesn't sound too promising.

What is MS really getting out of doing this? Obviously they know they are taking a tremendous PR hit by continuing with these measures, so I'm wondering why they're doing it. Those exclusive agreements must really be set in stone for them to continue on the path they're on.

Deeply embedding you into their ecosystem.

All of this is just ridiculous to have anyone have to think about and try to parse and understand when announcing a fun new video game console. It's utterly ridiculous.

Yes. Yes it is.

I love the wording of "we designed the Xbox One console to enable blahlblah..." that framing is amazing. Enabled a bunch of anticonsumer bullshit, is what they did. We knew what we could do with games before. Now they have added all these systems and trying to sell it like it's a feature. Guess what I could hand over my iTunes or Steam password to a friend before, big fucking deal.

I have a feeling that the worst is yet to come.

Some thing along of the lines of Gold required for 24-hour checks, otherwise enjoy your cable box/dvd player.

bish gets all the credit :)
There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

This is the most disgusting, pathetic garbage I've ever seen.

Wait a sec, so when you "give" a game to a friend, it's now his? As in not borrowed? And if you want to play it again you have to buy a new copy?

Wow, if true, then this is no better than what we originally thought. Only instead of the lendee paying for the game the lender does.

"Xbox, go **** yourself."

LOL, +1

Ooh and I bet this is Sony's system. Like almost identical.
The fact Microsoft wants nothing is alarming, because it really does imply this was publisher pushed more than anything else.

Then again maybe Sony's system is a more basic "if they WANT to include a one time activation key they can, otherwise it's the same as it always has been." We'll see, but that wrinkle does make it alarming, and possibly more fuel for wanting a crash that destroys these companies.
