Xbox One: Details on Connectivity, Licensing (24 hour check-in) and Privacy Features

This actually sounds worse than before. Now publishers can completely deny you selling your used games, even at 'participating' retailers? Yeah, say goodbye to used games.

f you microsoft.

not buying this console.

i wanna be able to buy used games for 5 euros or something like that.

lending games is stupid and having to be online after 24 hours is stupid as well.

i somtimes take my console with me to family and other countries where i dont have internet connection for my console.

Actually one thing is a bit unclear:

Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One.

Does that mean that 10 accounts have access to one library, or that ten systems have access to one account?

What's this mean?

Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

Is it saying as long as someone is in my "family plan" they can access my library anywhere? Meaning digitally. Or is it just referring to discs and one console? Because the first way sounds amazing, the second isn't relly much of anything, good or bad.

Whelp, this news is the nail in the coffin for me. If a game I HAVE to play comes out on the XBone I'll just go to a friends house to play it.

Sorry, but no. When your friend's Kinect scans your retina and determines that you are not the TRUE rightful owner of the console it will seal up like the batmobile.

"With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

Pretty much all I needed confirmed, I will never buy this system.

So I can't even give one of my games to a friend, if a publisher doesn't allow it?

Nintendo's Pro Bono PR Firm
I was 99% sure they would reconsider following the most vocal backlash I have ever seen as a pong day one gamer.

There are trying to force a new era, it's a deliberate (and hopefully stupid) attack against consumer rights.

They are not reconsidering... unbelievable.

Holy fuck.

If Sony pulls any of this shit, I'm done with gaming.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a DD version of renting to take shape this generation within Microsoft's controlled walled garden. Internet speeds are certainly fast enough for it to be feasible I think.

Doesnt MS have some streaming tech for games while installing for the Xbone? would be a perfect fit for rentals

I was primarily an Xbox gamer this generation, but with the way things are going, I think I may become a Nintendo gal and purchase a Wii U first. Pikmin 3 looks great.

In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends. Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners.

Urg.

Oh wow I didn't even see that part...yea that's kind of wack af.

Annoying restrictions phrased as if they are revolutionary features. PR speak makes me want to punch people.

Not as invasive as it all could have be but still more than I want to support. Still not buying one.

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
I like the family shit. Now me and my son don't have to buy two copies of CoD to play online. Good shit.

Also, hooray to day one DD. Will never buy another disc.

If that is true, I don't need to buy two Halos or Dance Centrals for me and my daughters. I can live with this on my end.

arguments like this are reminding me more and more of 'Sony will charge for online play eventually... MS makes BANK. Sony would not leave all that $$ on the table!' and 8 years later PSN is STILL paywall FREE...

if Sony is restricting USED game and ha DRM, Sony employees rallying behind the #NoDRM initiative would be ridiculously counterintuitive... LOL

You act as those Sony employees may have say in this matter. I have no idea, but these types of things are rarely in a vacuum. Industries tend to follow practices.

If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect.

Sorry, this is almost exactly as bad as I feared based off the earlier statements.

The one time transfer to a friend is a small gesture but the ability for publishers to forbid any resale option is really bad.

Nope, still not seeing the upside being good enough to warrant these restrictions.

This is amazing. Love the idea.

Fuck that noise.
Unless its to someone on your friends list.

and used games are up to the publisher.

I for one am looking forward to the public market place.

I think most of you are just in pitch forks and torches mode this all sounds very exciting and gives the consumer direct access to used games.

Just a thought, guys: saying "welp this definitely means Sony's doing all of this too, let's just give up" seems like a good way to get them to do it. This shouldn't be console wars shit, it should be about the consumers. Sony hasn't fucked us yet and we don't know if we will, so acting like it's already happened is a pretty shitty attitude.

I just hope media effectively report xbox ones requirements and polices clearly and properly. I can just imagine people know without Internet opening their boxes for a nasty surprise.

Sooooo basically it's the exact same thing that they said before but:
1. Microsoft will allow you to give 1st party games away, but only once.

2. Allows you to share your game library with up to 10 family members.

Those 2 things are the only difference I believe. Those 2 things ease it up a bit but it's still pretty much the same exact thing as before.
I wonder if 3rd party publishers can opt out & block you from sharing your games with those 10 family members.
