Plenty. How does Microsoft determine who is a family member?

Almost certainly this will be one of two things.

1. It's entirely up to the user, and people will have a reason not to put their friends on because of annoying limitations like "only one person in the family can play from the shared library at a time".

2. All the family members' accounts have to use the same credit card.

Can anyone think of anything else they'd realistically do?

EA would not have cancelled their online pass shit if they do not have a plan to make money off of used game sales, so Microsoft can say "it's up to the publishers" - but all it will take is one of them to take a cut from GameStop and most will follow suit.

I wonder if GameStop will have to pay for the privilege of buying back used games?

also ..

but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies

One is an opinion (accurate opinion at this point)
Free online is basically a given
its free on vita
they aren't going to just lock it out on ps4

The one that is basically a given is hard for me to believe, especially given their <1% operating margin for the gaming segment in fiscal 2012.

I just think people should be ready for Sony to consider all options, including paying for online play.

and there are millions that do. I don't think there are that many people without a broadband connection and honestly, it's painfully obvious that Microsoft isn't targeting them anyways, so I don't see the big deal. the xbone is a luxury good. by definition they're going to be exclusive in some way.

Look at an FCC report instead of speculating on broadband penetration.

NONE of this shit is good for the consumer.

I'm cancelling my gold subscription right fucking now and going to buy a WiiU.

I didn't see any indication of what constitutes a "shared game"?

Will publishers be able to release unshareable games? Is there a quantity limit?

I'd quite like to know, despite the answers being irrelevant to me personally.

if you think that Sony won't do the same thing....i only have one thing to say: keep dreaming

I dreamed that Sony wouldn't charge for playing games online, and I enjoyed my free online gaming on the PS3 for 7 years.

Here's dreaming that it continues for the PS4 and beyond.

Really does not sound awful?

That shared game bullet point seems kind of crazy. If my understanding is correct, i can basically buy Halo 5 or Shenmue 3(lulz), and share the games up to 10 people on my friendlist? So they won't have to buy the game at all right? And i could access their games and vice versa?

Edit: Ah, its limited to family members... Actually, after re-reading it, it's still pretty bad, but not as bad as i thought it would be.

How would they know if is a family member or not?

Man, I was thinking I walked into the twilight zone with so many people saying "eh this isn't bad" and "this is actually better than I expected".

Until...

Thank you Gaf Gods, thank you.

Nice to see answers popping up. A lot of this sounds fair to me.

Which part? The part about all your games becoming unplayable after an uncertain date?

The part about not being able to play single player games without an online connection?

Or maybe the part about not being able to share your games whenever you please?

Can the shared games be played simultaneously? That's what I want to know. If so, the only real losers are used game sellers. I'll just be splitting the cost of games with a few pals

I'll quote myself from a few pages back.

Yeah, anyone thinking they can have some kind of "friends pretending to be family club" and buy one game between 10 people for all to play at the same time is batshit insane.

I have felt that the industry is on its way to another collapse, but I thought it would be to skyrocketing budgets, not to corporate stupidity.

This is quite amazing.

My first post on GAF and all i have to say is...fuck this shit!

And to all the people who don´t buy or sale used games who are saying "it's not my problem"... the next time a homeless person ask you for something to eat...answer the same.

Good, honestly that's what everyone should do. Nintendo is not nearly as backwards as many people say.

The 1st party games are coming I'm sure.

Might as well wait a week to see if they have a price cut coming!

I would say, "Sony save us", but I highly doubt game publishers would have one policy for MS and a completely different policy for Sony. I have a sinking feeling that Sony is going to jump on-board with MS and game publishers when it comes to this and online play. Well, I'd be more shocked if they didn't get in bed with MS and game publishers at this point. Sony missed the boat on charging players for online play last generation (XBL Gold is all the proof you need that people will pay for online play.)I doubt they'll miss the boat on the only new games policy (which they get a cut of) for this upcoming generation.

I've been on the fence about going back to PC gaming since I've been playing more and more 3rd party games; this might be what brings me back to the PC. Super-cheap games and I actually enjoy tinkering with PCs.

Uh no it isn't.

Its proof that some people will pay for online play.

Sony has about 70 million + sales of PS3 from people who don't want to pay to play online, or can't play online for whatever reason. Shitty broadband or maybe no broadband at all.
