If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
That Yakuza HD on WiiU failed is as sure thing as the sun coming up.

I mean, what were they thinking.

I dont what Iwata thought he could accomplish with such a desperate port. Should have Sega to bring PSO 2 too WiiU.

Without proper software it would be pointless to launch in 2013.

Westerner is going to buy KZ,BF4 and WatchCreedDogs, japanese person rather not.

BF3 did like 200k (and one would figure BF4 would do better). Last CoD game did more than 450k. There is definitely a market for Western games in Japan, but all those will sell well on the PS3 this holiday season including ones that won't be on the PS4 like GTA.

The lsck of any japanese games announced could mean we won't see ps4 in japan for a long while. I can't think of anything they could have ready that wouldnt have the console sub 10k in 2 montths

Yeah I can't think of anything either. Studio Japan stuff doesn't sell. Most japanese third parties are mid-tier and so they wouldn't really move to PS4 until it's well into its life cycle and then you have Capcom, Square and Kojima and they all won't have games out till Q2 2014 at the soonest (MGS5).

Yeah, if i were sony i would just send that stock to the west, and then launch maybe like May-June. Of course they might have a fantastic lineup ready at tgs, but i just can't think of a good launch lineup that will be ready soon.

I still think Japanese launch will be this year or at most early next year (January). My guess would be october for the west and december for Japan. Japanese line up releaved at TGS.

Agree with you, and I can't see anything turning up at TGS for 2013 launch. They could very well have some new exciting IP for Japan but that needs marketing and hype. Apart from that, we basically only know that Capcom is making Deep Down and that it'll be at e3 2014, Square is making FFXV and KH3 (which is huge but given the way Square has handled this generation until we get release dates those two titles mean nothing), Konami is doing a MGS5 upport next year and Level 5 have an RPG in the making. There really hasn't been a huge interest shown by Japanese third parties in the ps4.

Looking at that time to triangle graph Cerny was throwing around I'd expect a bunch of ports of ps3 stuff and MinGolf from Sony studios and at least token launch in 2013 (second half of december).

If the PS4 is released in 2013 in Japan we're gonna have for the third year in a row a system selling like garbage and delusional fanboys going "bu bu bu bu but..."

Will 30K really comprise all of TW101's launch Japanese shipments?

That doesn't bode well for its first week, then.

Sad that Konami can just be an alternative way of saying Kojima in the console gaming space.

Wouldn't it be 4th in a sense due to 3DS not selling great in the beginning? I didn't read GAF during that time so I don't know how people were posting.

No, it means retailers are not stupid in expecting too much.

The 3DS is king in Japan. Is there any other region around the world where one platform totally dominates like that?
No, but the Wii U is dominant in holding that last place and possibly the worst selling console in Europe.

If I didn't predict like 15.000 or 20.000 units for this game was mainly because Wii U is so software starved that I guess Nintendo will at least try to market a bit every release they have. And also, after Pikmin 3 new Wii U users maybe are more receptive to buying software. Anyway, I feel 35.000 is the best case scenario. That would match Viewtiful Joe first week sales.
It won't even reach your best case scenario with that 30k shipment >.<
It's coming next week and let me guess.... Almost non-existant marketing, right?
Anyway, this was to be expected.

They already survived (got their money from Nintendo).

AFAIK, we don't know the terms of the deal and Nintendo always plays hardball when they can. Do you have a source about the financial health of Platinum?

I sure hope you are right btw, and that nothing in the agreement is dependent on sales.

Also I expect such low shipment for big Nintendo games as well.
Until there is proof that Wii U games can actually sells, retailers will be scared.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Wow, that's terrible for W101. Hopefully it'll do well and get a second shipment, and do better outside Japan. Kamiya deserves better.

Terrible shipment numbers for W101. Nintendo is dropping the ball hard on anything relating to the Wii U.

Conception II numbers probably settle which version will sell better. Good on Vita!

How did TW101 only get a 30K shipment? Even if it's not going to perform better than that, Nintendo at least thinks it will.

What's the point of even making a game to sell 30K? To force people onto the eShop?

They will be okay for some time, probably, since I doubt they have like a royalty-driven contract. But after Nintendo I'm not sure who Platinum can go to to make more bombs. Maybe Warner. Warner seems to like to pick up bombs. Or perhaps they can merge with Ninja Theory.

They can probably do more Metal Gear sequels until Konami completely pulls out of video games and devotes those resources towards manufacturing pantie vending machines, which is a much more profitable and culturally relevant enterprise.

I always remember Inaba briefly discussing Kickstarter and my little heart sinking. Just like... no, you are too good to have to sink to internet busking.

The issue is that japanese games have been getting such a beating by the enthusiast press this generation, they now need that much more grassroots movement behind them and bombastic blanket bomb marketing to get them back into the public eye and really showcase the quality. When a room of neckbeards are guffawing about japanese games 'sucking' despite many devs being as good if not better than ever, theres a real uphill struggle for PR to have to face. And "MAEK OUR STUFF MORE WESTERN" is not the solution.

I would have thought Nintendo would at least earnestly try and push W101 as an amazing new IP in their stable with wide ranging advertising, but instead theyve just pigeon-holed it as an typical niche release with a little more importance attached due to fuck all else coming til Black Friday. Announcing the thing in the first place AFTER an E3 conference just said it all really.

I also wish Revengeance had got their name out there a little more for a knock on effect. Now people will just see ultra-bomba after ultra-bomba and pile them into the same space as Suda51, and dat just aint right.

Don't worry, they'll do DMC5

Chances are it doesn't even sell that first shipment in the first week. Retailers are smart to stop overstocking wiiu games when they inevitably underperform. I'll say 20k first week, hopefully it can struggle past 60k. I guess this will be Nintendo's 2nd nomination in the bomba of the year award with game and wario.
