Media Create Sales: Week 51, 2013 (Dec 16 - Dec 22)

[WIU] Hardware (28 days) - 100k
[3DS] Kirby Triple Deluxe (16 days) - 250k
[PS3] Sengoku Basara 4 (4 days) - 75k
[ALL] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z (4 days) - 100k (I have no idea what platforms this is on)

I think the Wii U will outsell the GameCube in Japan. It's coming off a more popular predecessor there (Wii, the N64 didn't do that well there), and has a better first party line-up. The third parties are a problem, but perhaps better sales overall will result in more third party titles next week.

We'll see what Nintendo has lined up for 2015. I'd guess Zelda, Animal Crossing & Kirby I guess.

Wii U will almost certainly sell better in 2014 than 2013 with Mario Kart, Smash, and a probable price cut. However, the system seems pretty much doomed in Japan after next year. The one piece of software they haven't announced is Animal Crossing, but once that comes out and Nintendo is out of potential evergreens the Wii U won't have much without 3rd party support. This is the problem with me seeing Wii U outselling the GC in Japan is that past year 3 I don't think it will really be a viable system.

I'm expecting to hear things about new Nintendo HW in 2015 so that's probably where all their focus is going to be.

I expect them to reveal the new Zelda, Metroid, Animal Crossing and Miyamoto's new IP for WiiU at this years E3 and all three of them will be released in 2015. At this point they basically have to have a big first party game per quarter and hope any third party exclusives / collaborations fill in another four months of the year giving them eight big titles per twelve months.

If they design another console that doesn't fit with third parties plans (as powerful as PS4 / x86 / unified RAM pool / standard controller / Blu Ray media / much better online ect) then they deserve to fail and I say that as a huge fan and someone who has played their games since 87. No company not even Sony with their seemingly unlimited development houses and countless new IP's could single handedly support a console with first party content alone, it's incredibly stupid unless the console is dirt cheap.

[WIU] Hardware (28 days) - 110k
[3DS] Kirby Triple Deluxe (16 days) - 300k
[PS3] Sengoku Basara 4 (4 days) - 180k
[ALL] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z (4 days) - 65k

I am uncertain on DBZ since while DBZ is sort of popular but I heard this one is supposed to be bad

Japanese consumers don't seem to care whether games are on handhelds or home consoles (or mobile), so I imagine them buying more of the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros 4 than the Wii U version. Though it should help with hardware sales by a bit, not sure about the quantity though.

I'd like to see some of the hardcore-oriented new IPs from the Wii ported to the 3DS. I think titles like The Last Story and Pandora's Tower are more fit for the 3DS' demographic than they were on the Wii. Probably more for Sony systems than Nintendo ones, honestly, but it would be a way to cheaply both fill out the 3DS' schedule and to try to establish more IPs.

Technology might not allow for it, though.

They are mostly different games. It's essentially two new Super Smash Bros. titles this year, as opposed to a handheld port of a console game. Super Smash Bros. isn't something you really need often, though, so could see people just choosing one they most want of the two. That may be good reason for Nintendo to sell them together at a discount and/or delay one, as well.

A lot of those Wii U hardware predictions are low. That prediction period covers Wk 1, which should be decent.

I wouldn't be surprised of the following:

Wk1: 60k
Wk2: 20k
Wk3: 15k
Wk4: 15k

Where is week 52 numbers?

We'll get them next week. They were delayed due to New Year's.

Woah, I had no idea.

Japan loves Kirby. More popular there than in the west, but still fairly successful over here. Depends on the game, though. Mass Attack didn't sell well, but Epic Yarn and Return to Dreamland sold very well.

So, GAF, 3DS needs to sell 320k the week of Dec 23-29 in order to reach 5mil in sales for the year, which would be quite a milestone. It would mean the 3DS sold better this year than in 2011, which saw sales explosion in Nov-Dec from 3D Land and Kart 7.

Well the only major different between the two are the different stages (graphics aside and control options aside).

But yea, I agree with the latter part, but has there been any kind of precedence of Nintendo doing that for any game? They could have done that with the Mario and Sonic series.

Way to go WiiU and Vita!
Both sold very well, but WiiU especially!!

See it shows how a few key releases can make a huge impact. I think people need to remember that when making lifetime sales predictions. 20m Does not seem like a stretch at all when you factor in what titles are already known to be in the pipeline (DKC,MK8, SSB, B2, X, Zelda, Yoshi Island) and what is a safe assumption (like another 3D mario).

Plus the console will hit the magical $199.99 price point in the next 12-24 months. Once it does it will become an impulse buy item with a solid library.

WiiU might not set the world on fire....but it will do alright.

I lost the count last weeks with the number of underperforming games on Wii U.

But if we reached the point where 20m LTD is considered a moderate success I agree.

Kirby games are always fun to watch. Zero expectations and then it proceeds to outsell most of our faves. :lol

NDS : Kirby Super Star Ultra ( Nintendo ) { 2008-11-06 } - 260,867 / 1,204,101
NDS : Kirby Squeak Squad ( Nintendo ) { 2006-11-02 } - 151,147 / 1,121,151

Legend, let's see if the 3DS entry can sell one million.

Yeah great sales but I'm so mad Canvas Curse sold only a fraction of these games. :( The new one should do really well. Looks really good and more importantly is more traditional. Traditional Kirby always does better than quirky Kirby.

[NDS] Kirby Mass Attack - 36pt
[Wii] Kirby's Return to Dreamland - 80pt
[3DS] Kirby Triple Deluxe - 139pt

[PS3] Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs - 149pt
[PS3] Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs Full Boost - 125pt (special edition) + 72pt = 197pt

[3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters - 154pt*
[3DS] Dragon Quest VII - 192pt
[3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters 2 - 79pt*

*= bundle SKU as well, not counted by Comgnet

[PS3] Sengoku Basara 3 - 145pt

[PS3] Yakuza: Dead Souls - 474pt***
[PS3] Yakuza 5 - 98pt
[PS3] Yakuza: Ishin - 46pt
[PS4] Yakuza: Ishin - 26pt

**The game was scheduled for releasing on March 17th, 2011, but then the Earthquake disaster happened, and the delay till June 9th. So, lots and lots of preorders accumulated well before the actual release date. Probably, I won't put Y:DS in next comparisons due to its peculiarity

[PS3] Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 - 32pt
[PS3] Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi - < 38pt
[PS3] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z - 29pt

[PS3] Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten - 86pt
[PSV] Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention - less than 41pt
[PS3] Disgaea Dimension 2 - 40pt
[PSV] Disgaea 4: Return - 19pt

Protip for ALL games: in the last months, the ratios between actual sales and preorder pts have increased in general. I've noticed this happening for 3DS titles (Ace Attorney 5, MH4 to name two of them), but it happened for games for other consoles as well (IIRC, Call of Duty: Ghosts, but it's not unique).

Wii U Christmas miracle!

This was also said 7-8 years ago when the market was much different. Still going from Wii's userbase to Wii U's userbase is an absolute failure. However 20 M may be a small victory given the past year.

Lol its still applicable today. If anything the console sector has grown in the PS360 era compared to the GC/PS2/XB era making it even worse.

By no means is 20 million a victory. By all means it is a failure. I'm not talking relative, only in absolute terms.

Any estimates on FFX HD based on shipment yet? Seems to be old out still.

Yeah, I haven't seen any copy of FFX HD for Vita since last weekend. Exept for FF X-2 that is available. PS3 version is also available in Ikebukuro area at least.

Zelda is sold out in everyshop in Ikebukuro as well since the first of january.

Attack on Titan is sold out since two weeks until now.

Other games like Disney Magic Castle or Youkai Watch are also sold out now.
