Media Create Sales: Week 51, 2013 (Dec 16 - Dec 22)

Takehisa Matsuda (NIS Director): "We’re still working on a new Disgaea in 2014 so I hope Disgaea fans are excited! And for people who aren’t fans yet, we’re developing the series for each hardware system, so please wait until you become a fan!"

http://gematsu.com/2014/01/japanese-developers-share-aspirations-2014

Maybe they are planning to port Disgaea to the 3DS?

What about Bravely Default?

PS4 Disgaea....bisonyes.gif

It's a misinterpreted message.

What he actually said is "For those who aren't fan yet, the series is now on sale on each hardware, please, by all means, become a fan and wait for it."

He doesn't even say that they're making games for "each" platform.

Given that it's NIS, he may just mean PS3, PSV, and PS4.

i would guess that ps3 development is done unless they're planning on doing a ps3/ps4 combo, which seems to be in style right now.

disgaea 4 for vita is coming, so that's a known quantity. 3ds could make sense but nis has spent about two decades not working on building an audience on nintendo handhelds.

d4 for vita, dd2 for vita (probably late 2015/early 2016 if vita is still around), disgaea 5 for ps3/ps4.

Thanks!

Could be, but new fans on PS platforms? lol

Anyway, I think the series sucks so good luck trying to get new fans.

They need to spice things up to attract new fans imo. Its a damn fine srpg, great characters and its got humour that many games these days seem to lack. I think the art style and the mechanics been to complicated prevent it from branching out.

You are right. Original translation is quite off.
Disgaea 5 ps4 pretty much then.

Can you tell me if it sounds like Masami Yamamoto is referring to Freedom Wars in the quote below?

In order to appeal the broadened Vita market to younger consumers, we’re planning development on a new large scale IP. We also still plan on investing in regular F2P titles like Destiny of Spirits. Of course we’re preparing a big title for PS4 as well, so please look forward to it!

Where did you get this? Can you provide the link? Thank you.

Iwata said before the Wii was released, that if they would consider Wii a failure if it only sold as well as GameCube.

So, even Nintendo thinks GameCube-level sales are too low. GameCube did eventually become profitable for them, though.

Brilliant news for the future of zelda :)

And FF remasters as well I hope. I've been looking forward for a portable version of XII ever since X was announced.

18 hours? That would mean 4pm Japan time. I thought sales numbers were released at 10pm in Japan?

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
So with week 1, 2014 digital sales should be included @ Famitsu?

It would be really great if they seperated it. But I don't think so.

Yeah, I wanted to ask this as well: starting from Week 1, will Famitsu post digital sales weekly? Or just once a month?

They have the weekly data so I don't see a reason why they would release it monthly.

Again, they have the data, so they should be separated, it'll be interesting whether they will keep retail dl cards the way they are now, or include it with the digital sales or they might just combine all 3.

Edit: ugh, monthly? guess the charts will remain the same.

so, how many western games outsell your average Kirby game in Japan? :p
(no, Luigi's Mansion doesn't count, western developer+publisher)

At this point it almost feels dumb for me not to own a 3DS. That system, I believe it is getting close to eclipsing the PS2 lifetime numbers. Or already has. Different markets I know, but phew ....

true, but something like 4 million in 2014+3 million in 2015 and a tiny bit more and it passes PS2

Maybe, I was merely responding to the statement that it was close/surpassed already. They probably have a good chance of beating the PS2 lifetime as long as they do not release a successor too early.

Thats Japan for you. The PSP is like a million of the PS2 and the DS did 12 million more iirc.

3DS has 2-3 more years to go before it surpasses the PS2 in Japan.

Its 7 million behind PS2 and has already seen its best years?

No way is it going to beat it in little more than a year.

2 years ( 4 + 3) will do it.
It depends. I could see a redesign pushing it sooner than that depending on price and release schedule. The only major new software launch 3DS still has ahead of it is mainline Dragon Quest so I don't really expect gigantic software bumps to drive it.

Maybe 2 years at most. The 2DS has also not been released on Japan, so it's uncertain if or how much the 3DS sales will decline this year and especially in 2015.

I think some of you are seriously overestimating the power of a price drop if you think that the release of the 2DS is going to increase year over year sales by over 50% next year.

Will 3DS pass PS2 before Vita passes Gamecube?

It should. I can't see what Vita is going to be doing past next year. As for the 3DS passing the PS2, I think next year should be a definite 4 million, but the year after will probably be Nintendo going into more a relax mode and begining preparation for 4DS software.

Especially as Nintendo has already released all the heavy hitters (not to mention MH4). I really can't see how 3DS could sell better this year than last year or 2012. Going to be down yoy.
