I'm fully expecting this to be the worst ratings for an oscar show ever. A bunch of grievance porn nobody has seen is quite the lineup and the academy has made it clear merit isnt part of the process anymore.

I'd suggest renting Emma. instead as it was easily the best film of the year.

Chadwick Boseman was honored during the Emmys ceremony and the same should happen today during the Oscar.

How is Borat nominated for Best Adapted screenplay? It's not adapted from anything that I know of and mostly improvised...

Pulling for Riz MC
He was excellent in Sound of Metal.

I HIGHLY recommend watching it with a good 5.1 surround set up, the sound design is really great to the point where it actually adds to the story.

Cretinously credulous
'Promising Young Woman' is nominated for best movie. That itself is enough to tell me how utterly shit and agenda driven Oscars have become.
Its a painfully pedestrain movie!

We know why. He made a movie mocking he who will not be named man bad. No different than giving Al gore one after he lost to Bush.

Also technically adapted from borat the character from the Ali G show which existed long before the movies.

Ludwig Göransson deserved a nomination for Tenet's soundtrack, so of course that's nowhere to be found.

Promising YW and Judas are on my watch list but overall Hollywood has identity problems. The festival circuit already exists, and it's far more interesting.

Wolfwalkers got robbed y’all. Soul was fine but for a film marketed as representing the black experience and Jazz Jaimie Fox spent an odd amount of time as a talking cat while Tina Fey spoke out of his body. Cop out ending too...animation rant over please imagine Comicbook Guy reading the above.

I didn't even know Oscars was showing today. I guess not having Twitter kept me in the dark on these terrible events, and that's a good thing.

Props to the OP for placing the tags together that truly define what awards shows are like nowadays:

Used to really enjoy the Oscars, would spend 5-7 hours crammed in front of the TV during the awards and midway presentations that were always entertaining

Now I sit through 15 minutes of the Oscars, and no matter what point I sit through it bounces between Political Hollywood Social Issue to Genuine Award Ceremony.
With the former taking up the premier time slot and given more length than the actual acceptance.

Then the Oscars became less about films and more about stuff not film related, whatsoever. As it stands, I'll probably tune in for about 5 minutes next year and the year after

and if films still take second seat to politics and social issues I'll never watch the Oscars Again.

IT seems people didn't get Josef Fares Message or what it really meant - Overwhelmingly, for most - an Oscars that no longer fully embraces and celebrates film singularly isn't worth our time.

Particularly as Gamers - as Gaming is obviously now the superior medium.

The Magic Of Cinema has long disappeared from Hollywood - it seems that there is nothing left but this decrepit rotting shell where the magic used to reside.

Even then... I feel the real magical issues, AI rights, Robot Rights, the end of entropy - these monumental issues will be fully ignored in the future by the Academy in leu of celebrating
the far more mundane and menial issues like appropriating wealth to the needy when that is an issue Hollywood should stay firmly out of.

That In Memoriam video went so fast. You could read a name or look at a picture but you couldn't do both other than for a select few.

Lot of people in there I was sad to see go. Larry McMurtry especially because Lonesome Dove is perhaps my favorite book ever.

The sleeper hit here guys is " wolfwalkers". It's an animated film by Irish people that should not be missed. They should not only have won best animation but best picture.
It's an amazing film.

I'd rather sit through Mortal Kombat again.

Just finished watching it. What an awful movie. The "leaked" fatality was by far the best one, these cunts probably leaked it themselves to generate hype after getting roasted over the shitty trailers. I can't believe there's a worse movie than Godzilla vs Kong this year but here we are.

The ceremony was lame and I’m tired of these Hollywood thinking what the audience wants is a “Who suffers most” game of bingo.
