A budget pc good build under $1000. Can it be done?

My rig is long in the tooth. Surprisingly I can still play most games on high around 60fps. I can even play pcvr games. 1440p is my current sweets spot but looking to build a new rig.

My current rig has a i7 4670k, 16gb ddr3, gtx 1660 ti graphics, 1 tb nvme.

Can a good rig be built for under $1000 these days?

Regarding GPU : Everyone likes to hate on AMD but 6700 xt is a nice card for the money. Last I checked I saw some sales for around $300.

Also, I'm curious what games you're playing on high @ 1440p with that setup?
Many games on Xbox game pass and steam run at 1440p at or around 60fps on high with my setup. Vr is demanding. When doing the vr steam test my rig well exceeds requirements. My steam vr games run pretty well.

GPU wise I would check out 7800xt and try to catch it on sale. Alternatively go used AMD 6800xt/6900 or NVidia 3080.

CPU Platform wise probably AMD, maybe 7600 chip and can get motherboard for $150ish. Intel should be close but you can bump up CPU in the future easier on AMD side.

Get a decent 750w CPU and a modest case for about $150 total between the two.

RAM and Storage are pretty cheap now days. Windows 11 can be had for $15 from bunch of sites out there or transfer your current license.

If you are careful with sales you can get the above for about $1K, give or take a $100.

If you're going to play in 1440p, I'm not sure if you need 32GB. Even with several background apps open, I rarely approach 16GB when playing games.

A bit overbudget but I think going for something like a 7700XT minimum would give you a more enjoyable experience over something like a 6700XT or a 4060Ti. Especially if aiming for 1440P in the latest titles. Can also save a few bucks by reusing your current SSD and upgrade that later.

Edit alternatively you can get a RX 6800. Think I saw one on Newegg for $400 which has the same performance, but comes with 16GB VRAM. Though lacks AV1 encoding, isn't quite as good for productivity apps and lacks Anti-lag+.

Due to currently living abroad in a country that utilizes euro outlet plugs I haven't been keeping up with current PC part pricing trends, but you sir just blew my mind. They really do be selling 1TB NVME solid states for $35.

I need to get with the times.

As mentioned, $1000 nets you a PC that has a 7000 series CPU and a 7700XT GPU, with 32GB Ram.

Good enough to last the next 5 years.

For 1440p, fix your GPU to RTX4070 or RX7800xt.

Buy other stuff that you can afford.

I think you can do pretty well for $1000 but it won't be as future proof as possible.

I just did a 7600x upgrade with the below:

- MSI Tomahawk Wifi B650
- XPG DDR5 6000mhz cl30 32gb (2x 16gb)

Paired with a 7900xt. Thing flies.

Went overkill with the cooling with a Deepcool AK620. Thing is a monster but is very effective.

I have the 7600X as well. But going to upgrade to a 7700 non X for its lower tdp and similar performance to 7700X. Just need a bit more cores for my VM's.

Absolutely.

I spent a couple minutes on the Microcenter website and was able to do
-5600, 4070, 1TB Gen 4, B550, 16GB DDR4 3200, and a 750wPSU and a Montech Air 100 case (looks meh but it's cheap and has 4 fans built in) for $1020.
or
-5600 and 4060ti for $890 with the rest unchanged.

So you could go AMD with a 7800XT for $970. Benchmark wise the 5600 and the 5600x are basically the same at 1440p but you can get a 5600x for roughly $50 more.
