[Matlock]

An acquaintance of mine started out with a few parts from action figures earlier tonight. He asked what he should make.

I replied, jokingly, "Link."

After a search for a design to work into an adult Link--read: no pantyhose, no elf cap, he came up with this.

"Future Link"

It's influenced by the Oni Link look, of course, but stays a little bit closer to what Link might look like when he's an adult in the future of the Legend of Zelda.

Feel free to fire off comments on the concept here: it's just for fun, mind you, but I thought it'd be something cool to share with the forum.

The body is too big, Link is pretty much Elven.
Even if he got into his 30's he would never be that big.

Maybe if Link were Gerudo that body type would fit him, but he's Hylian.

Re: bummyhead--the concept he used was to make a more realistic/less Peter Pan link. He views Link more as Aragorn than Legolas, and attributes the larger muscles to the fact he fights all the time (swinging a sword around and whatnot).

I fired that through to the guy who made it, and he replies that he doesn't feel Link is like Legolas all that much. He's not the sort of regal archer, he's on the ground swordfighting.

This has gone on since Link was a child, as the series can prove, and he's fought for his entire life with sword and shield. This would, in real life, start to make a person a little more tough than Legolas comes off as--more like Aragorn.

Mind you, this is a more realistic ideal than the fairy tale look that you're used to.

I think it's actually pretty cool. It's certainly different than anything thus far, but considering the vast difference between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess this Link seems within a... radius of possibility.

Hello all, i am the creator of what many of you seem to consider a bastardized version of your beloved character. Just understand, this ISNT your beloved character, its a concept of him, as an adult.

I understand your complaints, and your preferences, just try to understand the concept. Link is an elf, but by no means a pretty, regal elf, as depicted in lotr. Hes lived his entire life in these video games, battling neverending enemies, on endless quests, against terrible foes, i dont care if hes an immortal child, or fairy prince, or what, any person, who quests through that for that long, will face a future that may not be like his childhood.

The intention here was to create a link, in the same line as prince of persias transition from 1 to 2, the hardening of battle, the true look of an adult. The commonly commented "Adult Link" is still just a teenager. This is a truly adult link, and elves, no matter what type, can still attain a fit physical body. Hes not as big as you seem to think he may be, he is wearing thicker leather armor types. He does have muscled arms, but hes wearing TIGHTS (YES TIGHTS i dont hate tights so please) on his arms and legs, this shows his musculature much more than poofy sleeves.

His face is representitive of his age, it is gruffer, dirtier, he has a scar on his eye because i like it. His ears, are not protruding out but tucked away under his hair, a person as this representation of link is, would be spending time traveling may not want to stick out so literally in areas where people dont have foot long ears.

Im not trying to condemn the existing link looks, im simply doing a whatif concept CONCEPT of a future link. I know some of you are unwilling to accpet anything other than what you know and love, and thats fine, i understand dedication to a character, just try to be open minded to people who would like to see something slightly different.

Links been a child for nearly 20 years.. everyone has to grow up sometime.

Nice. As most have pointed out, the muscles are a bit much, but understandable I guess. The facial structure though, looks off for a Link. Maybe it's the angles, lighting, or something, but the chin/jaw is what gets me the most.

Its really more the angle of the picture, the jaw is already as pointy as it sgonna get without being a literal feminin point chin, he has a little more width than normal link, but hes again adult, and also this isnt a stylized animated link look, link in his looks is really kind of animated style, hence the pointy chin.

I agree with one of the previous comments. In a technical sense, it's not bad... however, it's just not, well... Link. At all.

Eh, actually, I take that back. The eyes and eyebrows are pretty much spot on. He's still way too bulky, though, even considering the alleged thickness of the armor (unless he's been using that elven protein mix with creatine). The black is a bit overwhelming, as well. It doesn't have to completely supercede the traditional muted earth tones.

The Link being used in TP could be the "teen" Link, whereas this is the fully grown up Link.

Couple points of contention. The ears AREN'T tucked away, they're rounded normal ears. you can see it in the second shot. Secondly, as somebody else stated already, it's not the same Link throughout all the Zelda games. But rather several Links that have on average a couple adventures each.


IMO your concepting looks like shite. Playing a lot of Castlevania, are we? Look at this thing, it's like he's just put on the dominatrix mask.

There is a value in keeping close to source in art. If you truly were designing a version of Link based on the Zelda series there'd be some semblance of him somewhere to be found. This is not Link at all.

Anyways, I'm gonna jump on the positive side and say your work looks excellent Mag. Not to say you even are, but I wouldn't pay anyone any mind about what they say considering how sensitive and nostalgic people get about Zelda, you probably already knew what to expect. I'd love it if they integrated an Oni-like Link like that later into the game.

I guess no matter how you spin it, if you base Link on the "original artwork", you're never gonna get a mature looking Link.

The way I see it, this is how Link would look like if it were made by American developers. And I think it looks AWESOME, far better than what Link currently looks like.

THe ear thing is merely a view, i think of his ears as tucked back, you can see a right ear but you dont have to assume its human, or if you must you could just assume he had them cut in battle, long ears like that stick out its bound to happen.

Theres alot tieing to his original designs, the prominent but still muted green, stepping away from his colorful uniform into a more battle worn armor. The swords green petina is also harken to that i did just to give a feel of his most common color.

And while link may be different in each game its obvious alot of you consider him the same basic character, so on the one hand, your willing to say he can be compeltely different...... as long as he matches the same concept used since the 80s. Whats to say they couldnt make a new zelda game with an adult link such as this...every links different, so is this one, just more radically, he doesnt wear the same costume, and isnt the same age.

And for reference, i've never played castlevania. Im sorry that some of you dont like this, but its not my problem, this was only presented here because my friend liked it, and thought some people may as well, and a few do, and i appreciate their comments. But those of you apparently to set in your ideas of how a character should be seem to be unable to accept a differeng view, and thats fine its your choice to like what you want, just dont trash something because you dont like it. And dont shit on other peoples work, or views because it doesnt fit yours.

Im not here to appease you all, im just explaining my work, and why i did it, its your choice to think what you want, but try to think a bit before you speak.
