Watched The Matrix Reloaded after the first one, it's got a lot of silliness in it but I really love the action scenes. They amped it up a lot from the first one, there are many well choreographed fights here, in particular I really like the highway scene and Neo fighting all the dudes with weapons after meeting that French guy. I remember being so fucking confused about what was going on when I saw this in theaters, they pile a lot on and stuff like explaining how Smith/Bane works is sloppy.

An odd line I noticed is when Neo is talking to The Architect, and there's all the TV screens showing Neo yelling different things at him. One of the ones you can hear among all of the noise, and they even added this in the subtitles, is "you old, White prick!" :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I watched Little Women. Not my usual cut of tea tbh, but I have to say thoroughly enjoyed it once I settled into it. Directionally there's a real breeziness and whimsy to the approach taken by Great Gerwig which is kind of at odds with what one would normally expect from a period drama type affair that was initially jarring but ultimately quite refreshing, given that the film constantly jumps forward and backwards through time throughout the lives of the four sisters and their various adventures and travails. The films only real issue was the variable quality of the performances because albeit Saoirse Ronan is completely compelling Emma Watson is utterly limpid by comparison, and the youngest sister Eliza Scanlen is almost completely anonymous.

Slightly more stylistic and sedate but in the same wheelhouse I also caught the recent remake of Emma starring Anna Taylor-Joy (Split/Morgan), about a young country lady of means who fancies herself a society matchmaker of sorts, and the various shenanigans that entail when she puts her questionable talents to work trying to find a suitable pairing for the latest orphaned waif she's brought under her wing. Not a bad film, it lacks the pace of Little Women but matches it when it comes to the cinematography, and albeit it is ultimately a romantic comedy of sorts (alls well that ends well) there are no duffers when it comes to the casting.

i was intrigued by midget porn sometimes during my youth, i need to watch this.

The Invisible Man - not as kino as Upgrade but entertaining. Nice CGI for such a low budget. I should rewatch Verhoeven's movie...

The Call of The Wild
- loved it. Harrison Ford is actually acting here! Omar Sy and the Expanse woman are cool as always. Some of the CGI creatures are really beautiful, especially the wolf ancestor. The streamlined third act works very well, but the villains suck. They don't really fit the movie, which must be the point but they're more cartoonish than the dogs. Can't help but feel that something was lost in editing halfway through the story (specifically right after the avalanche).

Underwater was a decent monster flick. I liked the design of the creatures and
especially the "boss" - cool looking thing.
The movie was dark and blurry in many places, but I guess that's what happens when you're deep underwater. ;) Kristen Stewart was definitely the weakest link, she may have changed her hair drastically to look boyish, but she's still an expressionless actress.

Watched yesterday:

Ad Astra: solid A-, quiet introspecty, solarisy sci-fi. It gets a tad unbelieveble at times because of the feats Pitt is pulling off tho.

The Color out of Space: C, I just couldn't get into it because none of the actors could sell me anything. If it works for you, it's going to be a B, B+.

DragoonKain

Neighbours from Hell
The Invisible Man - I expected much worse, and it turned out to be pretty thrilling and fun. I like Elisabeth Moss, she can really act.

The Hunt - for whatever reason apparently this movie was “controversial” and divisive, but I didn’t find it so. It was a satire that basically mocked extreme right and left wing types in a hunger games style format. I thought the lead was pretty fucking badass in it, she was fun to watch. Entertaining enough, I enjoyed the mindless fun.

Making my way through Bombshell... not sure what to think yet.

Rewatched Bourne Identity in 4k. Still good.

Gemini Man is such an odd movie.

Watched Hunger Games Quad. it's ok. Amazing it had the hype like it did. I need to rewatch Battle Royale.

Demolition (2015) (aka "If it's rainy, you won't see me. If it's sunny, you'll think of me." on JP Netflix)
Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts Genre: Drama/Romance??

Watched this yesterday and loved the beauty if it. Quite simply, it's a movie about a man dealing with the loss of his wife. Despite this premise, the movie is not sad at all. Gyllenhall just nails roles that require him to be a little.... odd. It seems to have gotten some luke warm reviews, so maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but I think Gyllenhaal's performance is worth the 1hr40mins. Although, I have to say, the title of the movie is atrocious!

Edit: The Nicholas Cage talk on the previous page is giving me an itch that I may need to scratch this weekend. Con Air sounds nice right about now.

Deliver Us From Evil - blu ray

Very disappointed with this film, everything about it was terrible. There was nothing scary about it apart from 3 jump scares. None of the story made sense and Eric Banner was absolutely terrible in it. What makes this film even worse is that it is from Scott Derrickson who also did Sinister and Doctor Strange, 2 films that I think are good to great.
Many years waiting to watch this and it was a massive fizzle.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot was pretty trash. It had some minor laughs and it was good to see a lot of returning Askewniverse characters like Brody, but something felt really off about it overall. Smith gets more SJW with every film it seems, this movie is chock full of lesbians and diversity casting and jokes about cis males, wise 18 year old drug addicted kinksters with dildo collections who roll their eyes at the fuddy duddy's who think this is out of place. There's a scene where Joey Lauren Adams basically berates Kevin SMith for having the audacity to write Chasing Amy in the dark ages of the 90's because he's a white male. Smith wrote this script lol.

The Hunt.

I really enjoyed this movie. It has cult classic written all over it. It’s just really good fun. Great acting, pacing, and many memorable lines/moments.

Underwater.

The tag for this movie should be: “Underwater, no-one can hear you scream and no-one will give a shit”.

these are from another movie by the late Obayashi Nobuhiko, The Aimed School, or School in the Crosshairs (1981).

he had a solid background in commercial photography. in Japan there was not much money for films unlike Hollywood. the place to learn the craft was in doing commercials, so he used a lot of heavily stylized post processing and stuff alongside his beautiful eye for visual framing. House (romanized into katakana as Hausu) was his first breakout hit feature. his employers asked him to make a horror movie with a one word title like the current hit "Jaws". Hausu was largely based on ideas given to him from his young daughter, who thought up all the weird fantasy setpieces that ended up in the final movie.

RIP to a legend

Cabin in the Woods: knew nothing about it going in, and I'm glad I didn't. It's a horror movie, that's all you need to know. If you haven't seen it, don't look up trailers or summaries or anything. It's free on Epix through the Apple TV app. Solid B+.

You’ll find the original has aged really poorly if you try watch it again.

It was entertaining when I was younger but comes off as very amateurish now given the pacing is a complete mess.

I watched the original after the new one. If you ask me the Remake completely misses the point of the story. Dumbo not being the main character is the remakes first mistake.
:(

Parasite - I liked it, didn’t love it. Definitely don’t think it deserved best picture over 1917.

Onward -Wow this was crazy good. I hope it doesn’t get overlooked because it was released right before quarantine. I hope they make a sequel. It’s that good.

Villains - A dark comedy. About a couple of burglars turned house captives. Easy to watch and enjoyable.

A Simple Favor - Kinda reminded me of Gone Girl. I liked it.

Rambo: Last Blood - Short runtime. But thoroughly enjoyable the whole way through. No filler in this movie. Just straight action. A fun watch.

Good Boys - Funny for the first couple of times that pre-teen kids are cursing. Otherwise not really funny or interesting.

Dumbo Live Action is the best Disney movie in years.. IMO.

It really is a fantastic kids movie that I can’t recommend enough.
this is how i feel too. i saw this on a plane flight (also watched Wonder Woman) and i really enjoyed it. Danny Devito as a circus manager? sign me up. the story was light and uncomplicated. all the actors were pretty well cast, Eva Green as the acrobat lady who rides Dumbo was pretty rad. Michael Keaton as the capitalist villain worked v well, with him and Devito it's almost a reverse Batman Returns reunion.

the visual design pretty frickin' sick. i know everyone loves to dump on later day Tim Burton but him doing an art deco world's fair circus is really a nice aesthetic match. kind of the perfect director for that. i got some Edward Scissorhands vibes in a few parts. not bad for a kid's film, i've seen far worse. at least this doesn't have any damn 80s songs in it.

It was fun for what it was. Honestly, I'm a big Askewniverse fan and it was neat seeing old characters pop up, even if some were clearly hamfisted into the script - a la Matt Damon.

Smith is a skinny vegan stoner family man now who feels the need to act like a cartoon character 99% of the time now. I'm just glad he's still with us and is making better life choices. Hes always been a softie, cant blame him for being influenced by his daughter.

Best movie he's made since Clerks 2 imho.

Parasite

I was hating on it a decent bit beforehand just because I’m fed up with Asian Culture and hate it in some areas. So I finally decided to watch it tonight, and it is an exceptional movie. Very well made. I think it was pretty long too, but it doesn’t really feel that way because everything is so finely shot and directed. The story is simple but it tells so much despite its simplicity. The moral of the story isn't stated but it will be delivered loud and clear and beautifully in the most distraught filled way. Parasite is a fine piece in cinema. Although, it’s not my kind of film genre wise, I would never see it in theaters despite its acclaim unless I had a friend or two who was extremely excited to watch it. But it is wonderfully made, and it will speak to you on multiple levels once it’s finished and you’re left to dwell on the picture

Spies in Disguise is awesome. Everyone in the fam (me, wife, 3 and 6 year old) loved it. Maybe a little to actiony for the 3 year old at the beginning but once the pigeons get going it’s funny as hell.

It should have been called Spies in the Skies and whoever dropped that ball (I can’t believe they didn’t think of it, so it had to be marketing department) should be fired

Finished my second viewings of 1917, joke, and midway (saw all in theatres first time)

1917 was even better 2nd time, and it was top tier first time. I can nitpick it for a couple things but it is ultimately a masterpiece, though it does not take the title from Full Metal Jacket.

midway - less epic war movie, almost an popcorn version of the battle of midway but it gets all the broad strokes right. It also really gets captures the intensity of dive bombing into massive incoming fire in a way I’ve never felt before, and is worth it for that alone.

joker - great both times.

the hunt - over the top. Early reports it was woke gore porn is false... all characters are crazy stereotypes no side is spared. honestly, it comes off as anti woke to me.

Lol that’s funny man. That trilogy is incredible, especially the first two. I love the Matrix and The Matrix: Reloaded so much. The action in the second film is incredible. Especially the highway chase on bike with Trinity and The Key Maker, as well as the chateau fight

I remember watching it whenever it came on HBO or Showtime in the early 2000s because I loved watching the battle you described where Neo took on all those fighters in the room with the obscene amount of brutal weapons

Great films. Definitely works of art the first two

Also loved watching them because they touched on so many insanely thoughtful subjects and topics. Sort of like watching Donnie Darko, when watching the Matrix films your mind will try to keep up with the dialogue as well as drift off into its own world of thought; and you’ll often find you’re totally stimulated and suspended in thought throughout parts of the movies

Very few films are better than The Matrix. If you ask me, it’s the greatest film of all time, probably my favorite as well if I took the time to sit down, think and claim it as such

Scary Movie 1 & 2 are awesome, #3 is less good but still has some funny shit in it, and I was barely even paying attention during 4. Wasn't even aware they made a 5 until I looked up the physical collection on Amazon.

Sex Drive was alright, been watching a bunch of raunchy comedies, trying to find the specific year comedy died.

I don't typically enjoy Seth Green, but I really did like his portrayal of the Amish guy who you could never really tell if he was actually annoyed or just busting balls. Clarke Duke being cast as some sort of a womanizer might be the best joke in the script. Also contains the trope of the overbearingly masculine jock brother who constantly calls people fags - what a twist he turns out gay in the end. It was funnier when it was sincere a la Chet from Weird Science, here it feels like a long setup just to say "NO YOU ARE THE ONE THAT IS GAY"

FYI.... A Good Old Fashioned Orgy is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

Super smart and hilarious comedy, probably the best Jason Sudekis movie. Can not recommend it enough.

Hey I just watched that, it was pretty fun and I had a good chuckle. I didn't think they would go through with the orgy but surprisingly they did. . I'll agree with you it's one of Sudeki's best and funniest films.

The Gentlemen was great.. Made drink more scotch over the weekend
Onward was fantastic, same stellar quality of a movie from Pixar
The Irishman was slow burn but entertaining all the way
Once upon a time in hollywood was very entertaining all the way.
Malfecient was very entertaining and fun movie. Better than I expected
Jumanji 2 was about as good as the first one

thanks.

I enjoyed the first film but the 2nd was dreadfully boring.

Amistad - blu ray
I have finally watched Spielberg's entire filmography except for The Colour Purple.
Enjoyed this a lot and thought that Djimon Hounsou was bloody excellent in it. Mathew McConaughey is the other main star of the film and he does a good job too. Anthony Hopkins is in it but not too much. The movie is set in 1839 and is about a slave ship called the La Amistad and the slaves on board. It's essentially a court room drama. Great watch.

The Dress Maker - blu ray
Made by Australia director Jocelyn Moorhouse and with a pretty much all Australian cast except for the main actor Kate Winslet.
It's about a woman returning to her home town after many years. she was sent away as a child for something she did that was very bad.
Enjoyable, funny and a bit sad, it has a very Australian feel to it and I enjoyed it a lot. It made me laugh a lot and made my heart hurt in other areas. I found it fun to watch but it won't be for everyone.

Blackkklansman - Netflix
Directed by Spike Lee and a great little film. I loved John David Washington in this and can't wait to see him in Tenet. Adam Driver is also obviously amazing in this.
I do think that the advertising for this was misleading though. The trailer makes it seem like a comedy and yeah, there are comedic moments but the topic on hand is pretty serious.
For those that don't know it's about a black man trying to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan to investigate them.

Crash - blu ray
Lot's of big actors in this film. It's about a bunch of stories that cross each other. Some of the stories were interesting (like Ryan Phillipe and Matt Dillon's story) and others felt pointless (like Sandra Bullock and Brendan Fraser's story). Some of the stories feel as though they are resolved, others don't. I wasn't a big fan of it and probably won't watch it again.

Blood Diamond - blu ray
Very solid film by Edward Zwick, fast paced, interesting characters and pretty well done action.
Djimon Hounsou is great again and Leonardo Decaprio is just ok. When I first watched this in 2006 I didn't have much exposure to South African accents and so I didn't care for Leonardo's accent but now that I work with many South African's I know his accent is bloody awful.

Beasts of no Nation - Netflix
Watched this film because of Blood Diamond. I think I hyped this film up way too much for myself, heard so many great things. I finally watch it and it's just .... ok.
Actors were great all around, and it was interesting seeing this type of story from within the terrorists point of view and how their members are indoctrinated. I just didn't have any connection to any of the characters and ultimate didn't care about what was happening on screen.

Mississipi Grind - Google Play
From the same directors as Captain Marvel, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and they did really well here, much better directed than Captain Marvel. I love seeing Ryan Reynalds in his more serious roles. Ben Mendelsohn was also steller in this, great Aussie actor. It's basically a gambling addiction film, Ben's character meets Ryan's character and they become good friends. Ben's character almost becomes infuriating but not to the same point as Uncut Gems. In this, Ben's character makes you feel sorry for him and you sympathise with him where as Adam Sandler's character was just a douche and I hated him. They are of course extremely different films but I liked this much better than Uncut Gems.

Predator 2

Predator: Hunting Grounds is coming soon so I decided to watch some Predator movies. Its not as good as the first movie but I have always liked it. Danny Glover is great and I like the setting. The movie gets better during the second half and the ending is aweosme. I wish they would have made Predator 3 in the 90s.
