I thought the story still revolved around that?

Oh no, we've moved waaaaaaaay beyond that.

Samantha hasn't been as relevant since Origins.

And even then we're still not sure how significant her role is now. She's more of an endgame for Maxis to protect her or "the children" specifically.

These characters (Nikolai and co.) are running around killing themselves to absorb their souls in order to prevent the events of WAW-BO (when the Earth is destroyed and the zombie apocalypse overrules the Earth as we see in BOII).

This is the last DLC where they need to collect. After that, we're thinking we might be headed to Egypt to put down the Apothicons for good as well as finish Maxis' plan.

Zombies is fucking weird man. I remember playing in the Pentagon from BO1 with my friends from high school (I missed WaW) and it was a fun little distraction. But I never saw it anything beyond a humorous side horde mode. Now it's this entire convoluted campaign. It's too unapproachable honestly.

It's funny, because I can 100% understand why people are put off by where the mode is today, but the basics are still there. You still start off in a room. You still board windows, you still run around opening doors and spending all your points on the mystery box. All the campaign-esque stuff isn't required at all and is optional. Those elements are mainly for the hardcore fans, and that's where the story is told.

I feel like a lot of people haven't given the new maps a chance. Then they proceed to go on gaming side. :p

The complexity of the zombies mode has totally put me off, each year I want to get into it, but each year it gets even more complicated.

This. Everytime I try to play with my friends who play Zombies I'm expected to know all the background and all the tricks and things to do to rush through the level and unlock everything. No one bothers to take the time to teach me anything, so I give up and go back to normal MP.

Its gotten a ton more complex with Zombies. Luckily for me, I was there most of it (except for BO2. That game was a huge load of shit except for Mob and Origins). I can totally understand people being frustrated that its not simple as it used to but there is a map that does allow you to play classic Zombies. Just sucks that you need to pay for it to unlock (I hate that even more because its the greatest Zombie map in the franchise). I absolutely love the story and lore for Zombies. You can tell its where Treyarch puts the most effort in, especially this time around with BO3.

Edit: You'll need a guide to play it now. It's gotten really complex and unfriendly to new players that you'll either need to look things up or use youtube.

Which is just totally wrong.

The barrier to entry is just to high, if you want to get into it and then play with a group who know what they are doing you can literally mess up hours of work for everyone if you do one thing wrong.

I did that once with a group of friends in BO1 and they were annoyed (this was only about an 1 hour as well).

I feel like there is an alternate timeline where they decided to keep it super simple though and people dropped it for never evolving or getting any more complex.

I mean hell, it's not like Zombies is dying or anything. It's became and still is, a big selling point for the games. It's why Infinite Warfare will also have their own spin on zombies. Since it has grown to become a dedicated community within the CoD fanbase.

That's a big issue with the maps since Black Ops 1. Although I have no idea how they could fix it since they add a ton of new mechanics and easter eggs to fit.

I totally understand that it is huge now, that's not even debatable, but getting into that community is not straightforward, sadly.

Maybe infinite warfares zombies will be a more straightforward objective like Extinction was.

Although I would love the series to return to its almost survival horror roots.

IW's zombies will also have Easter Eggs.

They were also bragging that it'll be harder than Treyarch's.

Because, you know, we needed it to be harder.

Eish.

I really wish they had just stuck to Extinction. Although, I was playing some of the DLC maps for Extinction and even those were getting a little too hard for their own good.

A balanced challenge is good. Just going harder harder harder is sloppy.

Yeah, I wish they just stuck to Extinction, too. Wasn't a big fan of it, but I'd rather they develop that idea instead of another zombie mode.

Seriously though... what the fuck is going on with this game now ? There hasn't been any decent special weekends for a while now. What the fuck happened to all the double xp or double cryptokey weekends ???

This has completely put me off from playing. I used to look forward to hitting those special weekends with all the extra players they tend to lure in but now the already dwindling PC playerbase just keeps on dying down further.

We literally had double XP weekends the last two weekends.

Of course we get 40% off rare supply drops after I burn all my cryptokeys... Shit like this just teaches me to never spend them unless there is a special going on. So frustrating we don't get any heads up on this.

I don't understand.

Yes, there have been Double XP events, but they're not as grand as they have been in the past.

Is that ok?

I'm the one who doesn't understand. You got double XP weekends, whether they are regular XP, weapon XP, or the occasional Cryptokeys ones. What else are you expecting from DXP weekends exactly? I don't understand this notion of "grand" is. It is what it always has been.

Sorry I may have worded my post poorly, what I meant was double regular xp weekends... or even double cryptokey and as Toa TAK said, they should be playlist wide and not just for specific game types, just like they were in the past.

The last one was weird with its specific playlists, but it does make some sense to take advantage of Double XP in objective game types like Demolition because of the potential of XP gain is significantly higher than in a mode like TDM. I believe Advanced Warfare also did this, but my memory is foggy on that right now.

Before that, we had a double weapon XP weekend in all playlists. I think it's still a bit few and far between with having only specific playlists, but I expect the next double XP weekend to be across all playlists because having options of playlists to play is always better.

Yeah when I started playing Blops 3 at launch we used to have different weekend themes that took turns, you'd have double weapon xp on the first for example, followed by double regular xp on the next and then it was double cryptokeys and it followed that cycle and only occasionally broke off to do things like double regular xp and double weapon xp both on the same weekend.

I totally understand that they try and get people to have a go at the less played game modes with the whole double xp hook but I just have little interest in that ( perhaps my own personal shortcoming ). Just whack on double whatever and let me choose my gametype. I don't even get what the harm could be these days, the next CoD is what ? 3 or 4 months away ? If anything it should be perma double xp ( and maybe even crypto's ) so the lower level people can catch up if they want and people who already hit master prestige and got their DM's can try and grind out whatever it is they want be it more orange levels or black market things. I don't think many are going to be looking back and sticking around with blops 3 when the next game is out.

Took a bit of time today to do the daily and weekly challenges. Got the 5 rare package. Got two camos I hadn't seen before and jack all else.

I remember why I stopped this.

28 wins out from the guaranteed weapon bribe. I did the math. When it comes time to open it, there's a less than 1 in 4 chance that I get a non-melee weapon that also isn't a duplicate of what guns I already have (4 of them). Hope luck is on my side.

Is sprinting glitched for anyone else right now on PS4? It's like I keep falling out of the sprint. It's really fucking frustrating and making the game unplayable.

Yep, game felt weird playing it the last few hours.

Felt very laggy but it wasn't, wasn't smooth at all.

Well I went against my principles and opened the 5 supply drop bundle with my 150 keys, got a load of specialist stuff and finish camos, my extra bonus keys earnt me another 90 so I opened some more got a few more specialist bits and an emblem and the NX shadow claw.

Millions were still playing Black Ops 2 when BO3 came out. Millions will still be playing BO3 when IW comes out, and Treyarch will still support that community for years like they have with the their other games. Gotta remember COD has the biggest audience of any console game in the world, so it's not just all about the current year's game. No point in letting everyone reach Master Prestige in a handful of months if people want to keep working toward new goals for years between games.

The zombie storyline always confused me. Last i remember Samantha has dolls of all the characters.

Thanks for the updates. We've come a long way since WAW. How does Treyarch come up with this shit.

Ha, at first, during WAW, they were bullshitting their way through it after Verruckt because fans decided to read too much into it and suddenly they felt like they were expected to put something together after that (on top of pressure to keep making zombie maps). They talked about this during their zombie panel at CODXP years back.

Then by the time Black Ops II came around, another man took over the story with Mob of the Dead and Origins. The story has become a LOT more cohesive after that.

Don't get me wrong, the zombie storyline is completely full of bs, it's overscomplicated, random, and flat out dumb at times. But I think what keeps people coming back are the characters and the aura of mystery surrounding it. The ciphers, radios, etc.

I mean, the zombies community breaks ciphers from the goddamn ENIGMA MACHINE. They could cure fucking cancer if they wanted, but instead are spending time cracking codes (that the director of zombies somehow thinks is okay to throw at us lol) about fictional bits of information. It's incredible and incredibly sad. lol
If I'm fed up with solo mp will I like zombie mode?

Do you have the season pass? If yes, play The Giant. It's a remade map from World at War and by far the easiest to get into since it's just shootin' zombies. The next step up is Der Esiendrache, it's the best one out so far that has the best mix of simplicity and complexity.

I think at this point, the fact of the matter is that zombies has become a pretty hardcore game mode, whether people want to admit it or not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The way I ended up enjoying it a lot more was just playing more solo and learning the mechanics like any other game. Basically, it just comes down to whether or not you want to put the time into it like MP.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but if you wanted an educated opinion on it, just try it. I'd probably avoid Shadows of Evil for now. Zetsobu No Shima's issue is that it takes a bit just to turn on the power, but after that you're set. So try it out, baybeh.

To clarify my post. i'm just tired of playing MP solo the game/community seems to punish you if your not in a party or clan. I don't want to invest time joining a clan and joining a party whether its here on gaf or on reddit is few and far between.

Daffy Duck

What modes do you play?

I play solo groundwar and do ok with ransoms, the playerbase is small but most are committed to actually playing the objectives and game modes.

These days mostly domination, most of my grief is with tdm and chaos moshpit.

I play groundwar and sometimes its decent but other times I cant find any games or when its decently populated I run into a clan that is just curb stomping everybody.

I do remember enjoying hardcore domination but I have not played that in a while.

I never thought I'd get diamond snipers but I freaking did it! Thermal sight was the ticket and a couple of games sort of camping. Verge hardpoint got me my last 2 bloodthirsties with the SVG.

Now, I need 4 bloodthirsties with the combat knife. This will be interesting.

Good damage, high fire rate, above-average clip capacity that lets players miss a jillion shots with little penalty. Recoil is the only issue, and that's not hard to control. I hate it.

I got at least 5 "common-common-rare" rare supply drops from the 15 I opened over the weekend. Got very little of anything I wanted. So many gestures. A few gear bits. A few variants. No weapons. Boring camos. Probably at least 20 duplicates of the 45 items I got in total.

5 wins away from the guaranteed bribe. I'm considering just waiting...

I fell in love with the Gorgon again though. It feels like I remember it back at launch. Saved a real nice FFA clip on Aquarium where I was bouncing around the C Flag/Safeguard Finish area with the Gorgon and Ripper. I felt like a magnet with how many enemies I was drawing, but I killed a good lot of them before being put down.

Also I feel like I'm noticing new exploits. I saw a lot of guys doing these very consistent almost "side-slides" that really messed with my aim. And there was a dude who was raising his brecci crazy fast (out of a sprint) despite not having fast hands or gung ho. It looked like he was messing with weapon switching or something, but he wasn't firing it jitter-mod style.

Played last night at 22:45 UK time and boy was the game feeling rough, problems with lobbies disbanding after every game, people being brick walls when I was dumping bullets into them and then I die, felt really laggy.
