Hopefully this sends a message to electors that Trump's words have dire consequences.

Or to the rest of the world that China will literally steal land in the middle of the ocean, build military installations and runways and then illegally seize other countries vessels or technology with force. As much as you hate Donald Trump, China has no locus standi here.

I don't think anyone's saying China has the moral high ground here or anything, just that a more qualified candidate wouldn't go provoking a beast for no discernible good reason.

China's the one always provoking everyone else, finally standing up to them might be a good thing...

Agreed. China wants to be treated with respect while acting quite poorly. If they want their wishes met then they should start caring about what other nations want (ie not them seizing large swathes of the globe, claiming them as their own, and building islands which they later militarize). If China wants to act that way then no one should respect them or tolerate them. Their population is going to be old and gray on average in another 15 years anyway, so their power will wane.

This is basically real life version of this

Basically the unarmed US military spy ship is dropping dones close to Philippines and China grabbed one, most likely to see what spy crap USA added to the commercially available drone.

Suikoguy

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
.

Would be good to see an actual US response rather than the usual tight lipped verbals lashing.

Yeah, the international waters situation is bullshit, and there needs to be a line that when crossed we do something more than words.

More like someone saying the street is now their yard and then stealing your stuff on the street.

The intend of China is not to take America's properly on the street, but rather play with it for a couple days and give back after America ask for it a few times.

It's a warming shot to Trump's "One China Policy" comment, plus it's intended to make American's operation in South China Sea more difficult and costly.

Nah, I doubt this has anything to do with Trump. China has been ratcheting up their presence and belligerence over the South China Sea for a couple years now. Obama's response has been non-existent. He's so paralyzed by fear of damaging his legacy by tanking the economy that he just does nothing except write some strongly-worded letters.

Any naval vesssel with an USNS designation is not a spy ship lol, they aren't even military ships!

This is literally just China being the assholes that they are.

China just wanted to steal its tech. That's what they did when the first undersea cables were laid off the coast of HK, one day a repeater unit just stopped working and the repair boat hauled up the cable only to find it had been chopped clean off. Of course, the timing works to send a signal at the US too.

Somehow, I'm surprised by the existence of Navy drones even though it makes perfect sense. I wonder if they can launch missiles though.

Did you even read the article? It's a research drone made from civilian tech being used on an unclassified project. They might as well have captured a quadcopter.

Correct. The US is a convenient bogeyman for China's problems right now. I posted this before...

China is beginning to escalate tensions (whether or not Trump was there) as a way to distract their populace from the oncoming economic troubles. You set up an outside entity as the boogeyman for all of your problems. It's the genesis behind the entire South China Sea problem.

China's economy is starting to spiral downward due to the massive overleveraging they have undertaken over the past several years in order to try and hold to their made-up growth rate.

The real estate bubble is already bursting, the stock market was shown to be a sham and finally China's bond bubble is beginning to burst. They halted trading on bond futures for the first time yesterday, and for the first time in 18 months they failed to sell all of their Treasury Bills at auction due to low demand. Local traders are expecting short term rates to rise significantly over the next 3-6 months. Heat from the Fed raising rates, the yuan's decline and drying up liquidity in the money markets is potentially setting up a perfect storm for an economic disaster.

China is already attempting to prop up the Yuan via selling UST's at a blistering pace and despite all that its pegged to the USD at the lowest rate since 2008.

But nah its none of that stuff. Just China out there trying to show Trump who's boss.

The bogeyman thing sounds familiar to the elections we just went through in the USA eh...you'd think people would recognize it more easily.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/china-says-issue-over-seized-us-underwater-drone-061351040.html

BEIJING (Reuters) - China has seized "unidentified" equipment it found in the South China Sea, the influential state-run tabloid the Global Times said on Saturday, a day after U.S. officials said a Chinese warship had taken a U.S. underwater drone.

The Global Times cited a Chinese military source as saying Beijing believed the incident involving the U.S. drone, which triggered a formal diplomatic protest and a demand for its return, would be resolved "smoothly".

It said the equipment, which U.S. officials said was deployed by an American oceanographic vessel, was checked to prevent any navigational issues in the disputed waters.

Crisis averted I guess?

Man, the next four years are gonna be rough.

That depends on his response. Currently China is testing how far they can go and if there's no reaction they will assume they have another Obama in office so they are free to continue their aggressive policy.

So China could implode because of its own machinations. Just in time for Trump to claim it was him that collapsed the economy

Shouldn't have played friendly with Taiwan.

Theres only one China.

Oh come on, this shit has to stop. Trump is a dick but he's not to blame for this.

If China find an unmanned US drone (likely highly classified) of course they're going to seize it and take it apart, it's what they do.

This isn't the first time a drone has been captured, it won't be the last. Get a grip GAF.

Wait, so you actually believe the growth numbers China publicly announces? They are completely made up by the local authority figures that want to show that they are growing to keep their jobs.

No economist believes their figures are accurate. Many economists started calculating their growth based on things like energy usage and other factors that are much harder to fake, they magically stop being reported.

Even the Chinese diplomats say so.

Sure, you can selective pick your sources while ignoring the really important organizations and institutes.

Yeah, China's the one to do that. Totally. Someone needs to stand up to that mean bully who has been treating the world as their own playground since ww2.
