Destiny 2's new $15 "Starter Pack" is a bunch of junk that feels it came from a shitty mobile game

Not really. Economy is not the problem at all. You don't even need hardcore guns to even enjoy this game.

False. Game has highest of high and lowest of low. Shitty mobile game is hyperbole.

___________
Worst season start ever of Destiny in terms of steam player count. Well deserved.

What is the highest of high? Destiny at its best is more reskinned weapons, reused gameplay and mediocre story telling

Dungeons and Raids. Nothing like that out there. I just cannot disagree on how fun they are in Co-op as well as exotic missions.
And gameplay still to this day holds. Everything else surrounding it doesn't.

Edit - People should give and admit credit where its due. You can't possibly believe the game is shallow piece of garbage and still prove why it has been Top10 most played game on Steam for years even after years of downfall in content. Lightfall was the one that broke the community because...you know already.

Everyone keeps saying this in response to another of Bungie's fuck ups, yet it keeps happening. When they removed literal paid for raids/strikes people were all "it's just a minor set back, don't worry they've been in worse spots they'll bounce back." Same with PvP, same with exotics, class balances etc. Bungie has had so many "it's okay they'll bounce back" moments that should have made people aware the game has turned to crap yet is defended so significantly.

I played OG Destiny 2 and the first expansion, I really enjoyed the game. I did not enjoy the path Bungie decided to take when initially increasing lightfall access for the base raid so they could force people into buying the expansion. I stopped playing after the first expansion because I quickly realised that no matter the amazing gunplay, Destiny as an IP is shallow and repetitive. Bungie don't care anymore, or at least what they are showing through their content says they don't care.

How the mighty fall.
Obviously our experiences are different.

To be honest yoy played just about the worst Destiny had ever been probably tied with OG launch D1.

Like i said when it was good there was nothing else like it on the market.

But it has some equally low lows as well.

The removal of content really didnt bother me as a regular player back then they only removed stuff that simply wasnt used by 99% of the player base. Not saying thats right, but just my personal feelings.

It's because it more complicated than that. In fact it's a bit of a rabbit hole but it's also really hard to compartmentalize.

-Destiny as a looter/shooter is fine. In fact it's great in that basic respect.
-Destiny's story is good. It has some great lore and for the most part has an interesting main plot.
-It's PVP is good. The fundamentals of team or single pvp combat is good fun. Probably outdated by now but solid fundamentals.

Then it's like some group of cunts came along and literally said "How can we piss off everyone and make this as complicated for everyone involved".

You won't find many if any people agreeing with the decision to cut content. But you will find people who understand that something had to be done. For myself they should have release D3 at that very point of "vaulting the content".
They could have called D2 a failure and moved on to D3. Promising to do better blah blah blah.
Others will disagree with that though. However I still stand by that you could have carried over your character properly this time.

At specific certain points in D2's life. Bungie could have done something significant that would have welcomed in new players in. But they kept steamrolling through. Making it
more and more difficult for a new player to catch up to the story or how new mechanics work.

PVP just seemed to get left alone to it's own devices. They add new maps with DLC but the still wanted you to play certain game modes (gambit) that are really outdated and boring.
It's like wanting someone's attention. They are looking at you but give absolutely no response.

I think I can confidently say that you probably won't find many more die hard players saying that they can turn this around by this point. Fans are let down and finding it very difficult to suggest anymore fixes.
Not that Bungie listens.
The tragedy is they had some great elements to make a great game. A series that could have gone on for a lot longer. The heads just ravaged it to a jumbled cluster fuck.
I feel bad for the actual devs/ lore writers. Such a massive waste of potential.
Bungie should have just wrapped up D2’s plotline at Beyond Light, hinted at the Witness’ arrival there, introduced Stasis and the revelation that Darkness is now part of the Vanguards arsenal and left it there almost ominously.
D3 should have begun with the Witch Queen and Strand integrated (Sorry Idc about their lies, every strand ability references Deepsight/Investigations/Webs/Mystery etc all themes and mechanics of the Witch Queen NOT Lightfall), Savathun is a great villain and would have been a great way to launch D3. They could have used the time between D2 and D3 to really overhaul things.
Sigh 😔

I find it hilarious how Destiny is kept accountable for a GaaS. Other aren’t. Idc cause I don’t care for the game. I even enjoy people shitting on it cause I tried it, and hated if.

Bungie lost the memo that in order to milk a cow you have to squeeze its tits, not grip them like you stole them.

Free to play game acting like free to play game. Nothing to see here folks.
I have 2k hours in Destiny 1 & 2 combined. This game is free to play if you want to simply play the barebones content over...and over...and over. You will ALWAYS have to pay for ANY new content and access to the meatier activities in the game. Calling this F2P is a joke, just like the game itself in its current state.

Can you imagine working at Naughty Dog (one of the worlds best studios) right now and making that TLOU Factions game for 3 or 4 years, only to have Bungie saying your game fails at knowing how to monetize itself...only to have Bungie itself "collapsing" like this just 2 months later with their only IP? lmao

Even Sony must be a bit unaware on what to do with Factions at this point. That game could come out next year or be cancelled tomorrow. It's such a weird situation to be in.
Like...if anything Destiny 2 has a LOT of issues with its own monetization system...and i hope Sony sees that.

I can see this repeated but what is the source of Bungie doing this with regard to ND?

The only reason they did the FTP thing was so they could use it as an excuse for shit like this. like you said its the bearest of bones free to play. If you can even call it that.

Its the worst thing that happened to the game for sure.

Played Destiny from Day 1 all the way to beating Last Wish Raid. Some of my favorite multiplayer gaming moments came from that series.

It’s heartbreaking seeing the game go from VOG and Kings Fall to this garbage.

It's funny because I remember people celebrating when Bungie took Destiny from Activision. People thought that Bungie is forced by Activision to do all this crazy monetisation shit in Destiny 2 when it turns out that Destiny 2 was in best shape under Activision (Forsaken year).

Biggest enemy of Bungie is Bungie.

Both games have easily done this.
You sure bro?

Only campaign in Destiny 1/2 that came even close Halo quality campaign is Witch Queen. All other range from fine (The Taken King, Forsaken) to mediocre at best (Destiny 2 Vanilla) to bad (Rise of Iron, Beyond Light) to downright terrible (Lightfall, Destiny 1 Vanilla, Shadowkeep).

Don't get me wrong, lore of Destiny is excellent. Raids are usually great. But campaigns themselves are not good.

And they give GAAS lessons to Naughty dog?
To be fair. Destiny is GAAS game that is running for 10 years, so it's not like Bungie is totally clueless about how GAAS games should be designed to keep players around.
Making stupid microtransactions bundles is different thing than designing your game around player retention which is what they told Bungie (that nobody would play their vision of TLOU MP long term).

Dude, Halo has some of the most iconic levels in FPS history.

Destiny? I don't have time to explain why i don't have time to explain.

I played Destiny for 7 years and i can't name any single campaign level off the top of my head.

Taken King and Forsaken alone beat anything from Halo and don't get me started on the pvp.

Taken King and Forsaken campaigns were way better than Witch Queen!
Witch Queen is full of bloated 1h missions.

Forsaken was bunch of side content (Barron hunts) incorporated into campaign with few actual proper epic story missions.
Taken King was fine but it was also padded (Cayde Stash mission for example).

Story-wise or mission design-wise?
If first I can agree (although Sathona being tricked was pretty huge), but in terms of mission design it's not even a contest.

But my main point is that no Destiny campaigns comes even close to OG Halo trilogy. And I would even argue that even Halo 4 and 5 were better campaigns (outside of Halo 5 story, which was terrible).

I definitely enjoyed the darker, grittier atmosphere we got in D1. Now it's just an online shooter Casino in Space.
Definitely. The first game was amazing, I just wish it had made it to PC. I still don't know what everybody's issue with Dinklage's voiceover was either. His performance was far more fitting than the disney companion we have now imo.

Mission wise, complete bloat, except for 2 of the missions.
The last mission is ridiculous in terms of bloat.

Okay. We can agree to disagree.
For me Witch Queen was best campaign because every mission brought new design element and whole mission was structured around that element. It reminded me Titanfall 2 in that regard.

But as overall expansion (including strikes, PvP maps, Raids etc.) I think Taken King is comparable and Forsaken slightly better.

And regarding PvP.
Halo MP was golden standard during Bungie era.
Destiny is mess because Bungie can't seem to balance gear with PvE and PvP in mind, they can't get ammo economy right and when there was light at the end of tunel in terms of balance they just forgot to add new maps. So in no way shape of form is Destiny MP better than Halo MP.

Even Halo Infinite has better PvP then Destiny.

The Witch Queen story was made basically pointless by the season of the Witch. It was just a massive waste of time, just a curio of Savathun backstory. Nothing was learned of the why the Traveler gave light to the Hive and Savathun is still alive and plotting.

With minor story changes they can vault the whole witch queen and jump from Beyond Light to Lightfall.

In terms of design I actually prefer Shadowkeep, the bloat is getting the stupid armor but that is quick, missions are more like heroic patrols, story is told directly and you are done with it in 3h. You don't spend 30min revealing hidden platforms, or opening gates just to fill time, or Killing Savathun 3 times and 3 or 4 boring missions to restore worm memories for her to stay alive in the end.

I still Run through Halo levels like The Covenant, Ark, Assault on the Control Room, Delta Halo, Halo etc etc. from time to time. Stone cold classics.

When was the last time you played the Forsaken Campaign just for fun? Tell you when mine was, the week it released.

Don't get me started on the PVP in Destiny it's fucking awful.

If we're strictly talking PvP, I'd give it to Halo easily. But Destiny offers something not seen in any other shooter. Those raids, dungeons and Grandmaster Nightfalls, Legend Campaigns from Witch Queen and even various activities are some of the best moments I've ever had gaming. People always ignore the fact that there is really nothing like Destiny on the market right now. That's why people are addicted to the game. Until another shooter can replicate something similar, Destiny isn't going anywhere.

I'd like to see them start fresh with a Destiny 3. Destiny and Destiny 2 were good games. Destiny 2 is just holding on too long trying to milk every possible dollar from a last generation game. A clean slate designed for current generation could probably do wonders.

THEY ACTUALLY DELISTED THE STARTER PACK HAHAHAHAHAHA

Everyone roasting their asses (and they probably missing sales targets) made Bungo take a step back.

Halo mp has always been a slower/floaty version of Unreal Tournament that console only gamers who didn't play UT99 reminisce and they don't hold up in modern gaming especially vs the evolution of that style which is can be found in Destiny 2

You daring to also compare the newer 343 trash is comical.

Ridiculous is thinking the dead Infinite multiplayer offers close to as much of the experience as Destiny 2's PVP.

Forsaken and The Taken King offered a better experience in every aspect.
We can tell you haven't played Forsaken or D2 in awhile.
