Perhaps we'll be finding out more about what's going on when/if this gets more visibility in the gaming press over the weekend.

I checked these people out, they all seemed low level and had no previous experience in the games industry.

Looks like they're just making normal cuts, also makes me think that potentially the game is farer out than we think given they needed to cut some people to accommodate funding by Sony.

I don't know if associate producer or senior outsource specialist is a low level job.

👀‼️

My hypothesis in game development is that people in charge of production management (Critical Path, Gannt Diagram) and all those techniques for project programming are not familiar in a fundamental (in the trenches kind of way) with Videogame making.

and because of that, time estimations of tasks/event is out of wack. compounded with the iterative nature of game dev in which problems could arise in latet stages of development...i mean; it's just chaos.

producers and outsourcers are not necessarily building the game either.
They are helping the process. You can't build a game without these guys.

What is an associate producer? The associate producer or 'AP' is someone who works closely with the producer and assists him or her in putting a TV show or film together. They serve as their right-hand human and are therefore entrusted to complete a very wide range of tasks.

While the outsource guy is responsible for outsource job.

Maybe office guys here know more than me.

oh no, don't get me wrong, they're extremely vital to game dev but they can also be really bad at their job.

He also had no game dev experience prior other than 2 years at Skydance

Why hire someone like that? That recipe for a disaster.

Hmm. This is quite concerning. Sony looks to have been very cut-throat with their latest reviews.

I was expecting to see something of this at the showcase, but maybe it is a lot further out and the vertical slice stuff needs more time in the oven before they build out for full development.

I'm curious how this affects them. They were over 100 people two years ago and that was before moving into a new main studio and opening a second in Canada. So it sounded like they were expanding rapidly.

This must be the reason.

losing a guy like that might have affected the studio.

still, the news is fresh and we don't the behind scene.

It MIGHT be related but that was 8 months ago. Not sure about that. This sounds potentially related to Sony's round of reviews that led to Pixelopus being shut down. But it sounds like Deviation still exists at the moment and no report yet of the project being canceled. So this is kind of a wait-and-see situation. This certainly doesn't look good for them.

Extremely disappointed. This is one of the games I really wanted to succeed, but I'm not surprised after the Blundell departure and those rumors of excessive turnover. It's gonna be a while until we see the next SIE published FPS.

Seems like Sony isn't playing around in terms of quality and their overall pipeline. They will continue to pull the plug on whatever they don't believe in (even after years of development). I hope Media Molecule isn't next.
