Different engines, D3 was always aimed for future console release, d2 wasnt.
It's not D2, but Diablo 1 was on PS1.

If you buy it on steam you can play last epoch already? It is, but there's an insane amount of depth and content already. It's lacking in optimization though that's for sure.
NopeeeThink they'll ever add a personal loot multiplayer mode and (mini)map showing dropped uniques?

I played D3 near launch and it was indeed brutally difficult... and stayed that way for maybe 6months-1 year? Forget about playing on anything higher than "standard" difficulty, it was nearly impossible in the last half of the game. Also I remember loot drops being incredibly stingy, and %95 of the good loot drops WEREN'T usable by your class. Man, that game was a hot mess at launch.D3 was not easy on release day. Champions and Elites were a big deal before - some affixes were hell. It got easy because people complained.
Impressions from someone who'd never played Diablo 2 but has played several hundred hours (or more) of Diablo 3.....
Meh.
I mean... it's okay? I understand the inclination to keep the game faithful to the source code but FUCK it feels antiquated and clunky as a result. Perhaps it's also the fact that the game was largely designed with mouse and keyboard in mind and I was playing on PS5. Can't really be sure.... but while I can see the addictive loop of loot/leveling/etc this one doesn't stand out to me as a "must have" at launch, but rather something along the lines of "maybe in a few years when it's $10 and I've got nothing else to play" type of quality.
Is the open beta still live on PS5?
Have it pre-ordered but no option to download.....
You’ll start to see patterns as to what sells for the most to NPCs. For example, I usually pick up class specific gear like sorc or necro items early on because they often have + skills on them which sell for a lot. Easy way to make gold early on. Rings/amulets/jewels take up very little space but sell for a lot given how much inventory room they require. Etc.Ok so my second character was a much better experience. I've come to terms with not picking up 90% of the drops. Also the sorceress is a completely different experience from the paladin. Potions are a necessity now. The skill trees are better as well. I think I'm back to day one
I see what you are saying. Since I don’t have a reference point aside from Diablo 3, some people could feel like D3 was a “dumbing down” of the formula. Are you playing on PC? Is the framerate purposefully stuck at 60 there (coded from 24 FPS I’ve heard), or does it play smoother? Somehow D2 on PS5 doesn’t *feel* 60FPS to me, I think that’s a big part of my problem with itNow I want you to imagine the reverse. Several hundred hours of D2 and D3 comes out to a resounding "meh". I understand the inclination to cater to a wider audience but FUCK it feels like a console game as a result. Perhaps it's also the fact that the game was largely designed with idiots in mind and I had a functioning brain. Can't really be sure...etc. etc.
To each their own, I guess.

Have you set the graphics to performance mode? Quality mode is the default, which means a choppy 30 fps.I see what you are saying. No but maybe I'll give that a try before writing the game off. Had no idea it was even adjustable on console.Have you set the graphics to performance mode? Quality mode is the default, which means a choppy 30 fps.

Played the demo on Series X and it's the same grainy blurry mess the PS5 version is, are these just backwards compatible games? I thought they said they were going to be 4K 60fps but you only have the option for quality or performance, This game should look way better on these consoles than it does.
The original is the same way, this is 21 year old netcode you are playing the game with.I played the beta for an hour and just stopped, want to enjoy the whole full game experience when its out. Just one question, does hit detection have a slight lag? I dont remember anymore how the game played back in the day but chosing Barbarian with his axe, every time I hit an enemy, a second later it seems his health bar registered. Like its a one second delay (PS4). Or was the original the same way?
I submitted a report but hopefully they make the map a bit easier to see the exits/doors/entrances. Had to switch to legacy since I couldn't find the next level in one area lol
Here's what I mean :

Man I regret selling my 3080, I'm left with a Rx 560... Pc was collecting dust but I'd love to try this one
You can toggle the show items setting in the options menu. I just leave it on at all times. I have it so I press a button to turn it on or off.I thought it was pretty good on my laptop. Didn't run into any issues and it seemed polished enough. The only issue I did have was with not being able to view interactable objects whenever they appeared -- like shrines, chests, items, etc. You can press ALT to view items, but you still have to press a button to do it. And the graphics don't seem that impressive -- I thought the Warcraft III: Reforged characters were much more detailed. Unless I'm mistaken, you can only zoom to 2 pre-determined viewpoints. Would be nice if you could manually zoom via the mouse scroller like in Warcraft and other isometric games.
Ah, that's good to know. Thanks for the heads up. I already uninstalled and waiting for release now.You can toggle the show items setting in the options menu. I just leave it on at all times. I have it so I press a button to turn it on or off.
This is really by biggest complaint about it, the same issues that were there 20 years ago are still there. It was excusable back then because multiplayer was still pretty novel, now not so much. I wonder if the server code scales poorly with more players, it seemed great last week in the early access beta.Just got off the beta and while it felt antique, I enjoyed it at the same time. Game doesn't feel so smooth tho and I had instances of rubber banding when crowds of enemies surrounded me and I'd run away. It'd snap me back in the middle of them all.
D3 was my first Diablo and I enjoyed it. If this at least played as smooth as D3 I'd be in day one. But no crossplay or local coop is no for me as of now.
Gameplay is king and D3 is night and day better in that respect imo.
Yeah I think diablo 3 and a lot of its quality of life changes have kind of ruined Diablo 2 tbh. Diablo 2 is *terrible* on a controller, that much is for sure. The inventory and skill system just isn't made for anything other than a mouse and keyboard.Impressions from someone who'd never played Diablo 2 but has played several hundred hours (or more) of Diablo 3.....

Man I feel the exact same way, and it bothers me to no end.I played the beta for an hour and just stopped, want to enjoy the whole full game experience when its out. Nice!Just found +2 Teleport, +3 Firewall, +3 Fireball 2oc staff from Dragnon. Turned it into Leaf staff. Could save 2 skill points if I wanted to respec.
Got a 6 warmth staff and another one with 6 firebolt too.
The map only being full screen or off is just bad in this day and age though.
Ah nice, will have to look in the settings a bit more. Thanks! There's a setting to make it a corner minimap.

Oh I mean on PC, I know you can do it on console.I *think* you hold down the trackpad. It cycles between full, top left, top right and off.
Dude stop calling it a fucking BETA.what don't you understand about "Beta"?
I refuse to believe that chat won’t be fixed by release.Dude stop calling it a fucking BETA.
It’s out in a month.
Whatever issue you will have in this ‘beta’ build sure as hell won’t get fixed before full.
exactly
I bought D2 and the expansion on release and loved them both. I also goy D3 on release and was good but had issues (auction house) but was fun. I got that again on XBox and also Switch. I revisited D2 on the Beta yesterday and although it was cool (great music) the game is antiquated and really nowhere near D3 in execution. The setting of D2 is better but D3 is so much more refined now. It's a good nostalgia trip but that's about it. (I will still buy it though!!)
