Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Currently at level 46 and just hitting the great wall, I would like to kill some Golems, but I can't get Archers to be useful. So I was thinking of switching my. Mystic Archer seems to be the choice, but that is still Magic, is it worth switching over to standard Ranger?

Rangers are pretty amazing with the Tenfold Arrow. It's exactly what the name suggests - ten arrows fired at once.

I bought Dragon's Dogma from GameFly a few weeks ago, and I'll be starting a campaign soon.

Anyone care to give me a brief practical pros/cons of starting class selection?

Unless you plan on using magic, going Fighter is always recommended for a certain level 5 perk that lets you carry more weight.

Well I got dropkicked by an ogre. How do I beat the one in Everfall at the very beginning of the game? Also how do I teach my pawns and myself new abilities?

Well I got dropkicked by an ogre.
Well that bring a nice smile on my face..

Do you know that ogres are more agressive if you have females in your party ?

as for the drop kick , well everyone has to experience that at least once.

How do I beat the one in Everfall at the very beginning of the game?
The difficulty of this encounter lies in the fact that you don't have much space to avoid his attack and probably not enough defense to withstand many hits.fruthermore he can get crazy if you have many females in your party.

So lightning and fire , use it ( mages )
if you do climb him do pay attention when he'll start moving toward the edge ..just jump !
you're not supossed to destroy him at this point of the game ( but you can ).he'll do that animation when you've done enough damage.

Also how do I teach my pawns and myself new abilities?

The innkeeper in cassardis gran soren can let you add skills and change class.
The innkeeper in the camp ( where you've fought the hydra ) let you change skills and so are some npcs that are at various points on the map

Is there any innkeepers in Gran Soren? Also is there a way to get to the Pawns Guild/craftsman quarters without having to go up a tower and jump off to get behind the NPC who stops you from going in because of some shipment thing?

Should I be giving skills to rented pawns or just my main pawn?

How important is it to complete all the optional quests on the bulletin boards?

My bad i've made a mistake .. the innkeeper you seek is not in cassardis but in gran soren.. ( post above corrected )

Is there any innkeepers in Gran Soren?
In the gran soren main place ( with the market ) it's in front of teh fountain and at the opposite of the open quest bulltin board.
Also is there a way to get to the Pawns Guild/craftsman quarters without having to go up a tower and jump off to get behind the NPC who stops you from going in because of some shipment thing?
if you can't then don't bother ..you'll will after a while.( it's a story thing ). there is no point to force yourself to explore areas you can't because you'll trigger some hidden switchs that will mess up some quests.
Should I be giving skills to rented pawns or just my main pawn?
you can't give skills to rented pawns , only to yourself and your main pawn .. rented pawns skill set stay the same ( unless the pawn main master changes his pawn and you RE-hire said pawn ).
How important is it to complete all the optional quests on the bulletin boards?

The quests KILL x ennemies are not important they are there to give you money and give you a reason to explore.

The escort quest are the same but upon failure you'll lose that npc for 7 in game days and your affections paramaetters with that npc will be lowered.

Not much. I suggest you avoid getting them all from the boards too, just get the ones you feel like doing because they look fun or easily doable (for example, if you know where to hunt the beasts) or you dig the reward, and skipping the extremely boring and "dangerous" escort quests.
You might want to do at least 50 (iirc) of them for the trophy/achievement though.

they gave me money .. ( before i could farm weakstones ) that's good enough i guess

Yeah, that's true, but for some of them the hassle is not worth the money they give, imo. Especially since main quests and NPCs quests give a lot of money. They can be fun though and give a nice excuse to travel a lot (I think travelling is the best part of the game, despite what everyone says about it), and some of them are basically auto-completed just by going around so I guess it couldn't hurt to grab them, yeah ;)

I recommend just snatching all quests that aren't escorts from the BB as you see them. A lot of times you will run into those mobs while doing other quests or just exploring and there's no real downside to having them since your quest log has no limit. As for the escorts, they can be hard but usually the rewards are worth the time.

It sounds like you haven't done the escort quest from Mercedes yet, if you do that you should be able to go through right away without the guard stopping you, she is the chica with the white cape who talked to you after the hydra. If she's not at the bridge checkpoint thing she is still at the encampment.

The optional quests aren't really important, but you can get some very good items and weapons (like Gryphic Victory) pretty early in the game that will really help you out, and they are usually more fun than simply looking around for no reason or grinding.

Also, non main pawns basically just come as is, no need to do anything special to them except maybe toss a few healing items into their inventory before hard fights. I usually hire pawns a few levels higher than me so I get more use out of them before I have to switch them out again since they don't level with you.

I did the Mercedes quest already but was still blocked off from the quarters with access to Everfall. Didn't know what to do so I went all Assassin's Creed, climbed a tower, and jumped behind the NPC and stuck a kick me sign on him and went on my journey.

And then I got dropkicked by an ogre.

The post-game stuff in this game is amazing, I really do wish I had picked this up at launch, but it's starting to become my favorite title of 2012

The expansion pack is going to be excellent whenever it drops this year

How do I find Pip again in the Land of Opportunity quest? I found him in the Urban Quarters but he ran off and now I can't find him again.

nvm I caught him sneaking around the back of the alehouse

If I change from Ranger back to a Strider do I keep all my purchased skills for if I ever want to come back to being a Ranger?

Also where can I find a good lonbow? I'm currently level 17 and using the one from the MonHun DLC with 33 strength.

Got a copy for Christmas, and enjoying it so far. The save/retry system is a little annoying but I'm really liking all the pawn stuff. Made it to Gran Soren and killed my first ogre by riding it off the edge of the everfall walkway all the way to the bottom, good times. Playing a Strider at the moment thinking of eventually switching up to Assassin.

Purchased skills will stay, so you don't have to worry about buying them twice.

As for weapons, if you find what is on vendors lacking they will upgrade as you advance the story.

I just completed the post-game stuff and I'm now on my NG+ playthrough and I gotta say, this game was worth the $30 I paid for it! It may have a few technical issues, but the game is just a blast to play and it never got boring to me. I'll probably start on my second playthrough here in the near-future, as I have a bunch of other games I wanna play, but for anyone thinking about playing Dragon's Dogma, I say go for it, it's an adventure that never gets boring and always gives the player a challenge!

Okay, so I just beat the Dragon(first time) and the world changed, what am I honestly supposed to do now? Where are the new quests and everything? It just says collect 20 wakestones and to be honest, the new version of the world is mostly the same monsters.

Also would now be a good time to invest into another profession? I'm 55, purely Mage and Sorc so far. And when I encounter certain beasts, it sucks big time. Like the Black Chimeras since the Goat is Magic immune. I literially crush the Snake and Lion, then it proceeds to just keep healing itself.

Strider : you feel like a badass with speed
Mage : you won't feel like a badass at first but you will after 10 hours
Fighter : you will feel like a hero doing so kick-ass things ( at normal speed )

Ranger : you're the predator of everything that flies except dragons, but after 10 hours playing even dragons will feel pain so you'll look like a badass
Warrior : this huge orc wants to kill you but you're so badass with your shield and sword that he will soon die in pain
Sorceror : you'll feel weak physically , but you don't care as you can do some cool badass spells and summons tornados or a rain of fire or lightning over your ennemies ..so badass

Assassin : you'll be so badass i don't have enough words to explain why as you're so quick to kill ....For some reasons your ennemies are lying dead of the ground , be it dragon , orcs or zombies. if you have a pawn that can cast magic, even ectoplasm will be defeated .. so quick so badass

Mystic Knight : this huge griffin wanted to hit me but my shield is so badass that i don't care

Magick Archer : because some times ..come the moment when you want magical arrows that follow your ennemies to their death , leaving them no chance to escape.. because sometimes it's dark and that a light/holy arrow in a dark forest at night helps and that a holy arrows destroy every undead ennemy ..your only real ennemies are the dragons and the magical golems but with a well balanced party this is not a real problem. a little less badass vocation that will provide some ways to play differently.

9/10

You might want to spoiler the first part of your post.

Drakes and wyverns have appeared in numerous locations. The Ur-Dragon can also be fought in the Chamber of Lament. This Link has more information on where you can find new bosses in old locations and shows where NPCs have moved to. You could level up some of the other vocations if you want. There are plenty of strong enemies to fight so experience isn't exactly lacking.

Be warned, once you turn in those 20 wakestones, there is no turning back. It is the final step in your journey.

With that high magic stat you can just go Mystic Knight. The magic-side of the MK skills are completely broken.

the world changed .
The water altar has new things , the frontier underground has a new thing ..both north areas have changed so you might want to check those to.
The big monster that were on the world ? All of them have changed ..the rest is in the new dongeon that has opened

Going to enter post-game soon. How does
Everfall grinding work? I heard it only opens up post-game and you can only enter the dungeons while on the final quest?

Will probably do NG+ as a Warrior and then call it quits. The game is really fun but traveling the same, long path for the 7th time meeting the same mobs with static levels gets tiresome. For a sequel I'd love to see more rest stops and the ability to fast travel to them without needing to set my own portcrystal. Regardless, still a great game.

and he grew a beard. doesn't stop him from wearing nice shorts.

hard is hard. killing that first cyclops as a fighter is a pain when you die whenever he touches you. i'm at level 16 now and they're still strong. still, game has been fun. i need to get back on cause my day has been shitty.

Jump down the hole > land wherever you want > clear that chamber > repeat. The Everfall opening up is the 2nd to last quest, but you're free to come and go as you please -- just land on the highest platform, it will lead back to the basement of the Pawn Guild.

It's only when you hand the 20 wakestones over that you are locked into completing the final quest, so do what you want before that.

Cleared chambers take 3 days, I think, to respawn everything.

Can anyone explain, precisely, how Stagger and Knockdown resistance work? Are there enemy abilities that always cause stagger and knockdown (effectively making the trait useless)?

Really curious as to just how useful the stat actually is.

Does it help against magic immune creatures. Because I'm currently around 1500 Magick, but even loading up on two melee heavy pawns, they end up sucking.

The lost and found, some random fetch quests wouldnt finish after killing said # of enemies, and the worst.. this escort quest where there is a damn dragon in the path. I ended up getting past him to the objective and nothing happened.

weird. never had any glitches in this game, 2+ PTs. sucks :(

i was suprised to see that my new pawn got a huge knowledge boost on her first rest. like 50x foe and 50x quest. i think this was intended for my old pawn

Have you tried reinstalling the game data? Might not fix the issue, but it's worth a shot.

No, I restarted, but kept the save, ill try it later.

edit: re rolled a strider, i feel like i need to save before and after every encounter... apparently arrows from bandits blow you back 50ft.

I have actually found bandits to be the most dangerous "non-boss" mobs in the game overall. Their Rangers and Sorcerers are extremely annoying, they can come in some VERY large groups and I died from more than a few random uber combos from their melee.

Then I found out about things like Easy Kill and can't wait for them to try that crap. :)

Hmm so I'm currently in post game. I want to rank up some other vocations like warrior and fighter from rank 0. Should I do this in NG+ or is it faster in post game? I've only got a rank 5 ranger, rank 4ish strider, and rank 9 assassin.

My concern is that trying to kill the enemies will be difficult with low rank vocation skills.

If you're in the post game it won't be that much of a problem unless you're fighting bosses or something. Even then it's not that difficult if at all. You should be able to get your hands on gear where you can wipe out most things quickly regardless of vocation level.

There are two somewhat easy ways to DF things:

One is to find a wild Drake > fight it until it has a bit of health left > run away until it goes back to its patrolling > save > finish it off.

If stuff is DF'd, sleep until it respawns (the devilfire Drake takes 7 days) and repeat; if stuff isn't DF'd, godsbane yourself and retry, it will load the Drake with that last bit of health, making the fight much shorter. That method only DF's one, or a few items at a time, though.

The other way, is to fight the offline Ur-Dragon, if you're a high enough level. Magick Archer is Easy Mode against it -- hell you could do the fight in Easy Mode for even more easiness -- if you're a high enough level you can end the fight without it flying away, a total of 8-10 minutes. The Ur-Dragon DF's multiple items more often, but there were times I killed it 5+ times and didn't get a damn thing DF'd.

Won't be an issue once your melee stats get buffed up a bit. Or just go Assassin for a while and get the stat-boosting augment at night.

It's the easiest in post game.
Go the the area outside the Duke's Castle and fight the infinitely respawning guards. They can't climb the walls outside the church, so you can stand on a wall and let your pawns do the work. They give very little xp and quite a bit of dp. You can leave your set on and go do something else.

the only way to kill these assholes right now. i have to lure them somewhere, else they go berserk and homing dropkick me for 100% life.

griffins: i didn't know they had so many ways to kill you in one hit.
