Yup. We're so desperate for info on the next Xbox that we've made a huge deal out of a MS employee's tweets.
What's changed? You didn't know dick about it then, you don't know dick about it now.
I have a lot of concerns about the next Xbox, but sympathy for the poor journalists who thrive off tech reveals and blockbuster previews and exclusive interviews just aren't among them.
I would be perfectly happy if they did not exist, so I do not mind if they are starving. My distaste for the hype machine spans virtually all tech fields, from hype surrounding Apple's next iPhone to reveals of new televisions to the reveals of new gaming machines.
This is how tech journalism deserves to be treated:

We've been given no reason to think otherwise. Perhaps if some of the non-disastrous details were to leak out instead of the disastrous ones, we'd have just cause to think otherwise.
There are non-disastrous details, right? Ones that don't make it seem inferior to the PS4 in every way fathomable? Those exist, right?
Neil Long said:What is the next Xbox? Its a restrictive, always-on console bloated with DRM and flooded with ads. It doesnt want you to play second-hand games on it. Itll break the moment your internet connection has the slightest wobble. Itll be a trojan horse designed to seduce the games playing public into buying one before taking over their living rooms, pushing videogames into the background in favour of gaudy mainstream entertainment.
The truth? 360s successor will be Microsofts own connected entertainment hub in and of itself, thats no bad thing. Microsoft will never completely abandon the core games-playing audience it has built its Xbox business upon; the next console will be powerful, and play host to excellent, big-budget blockbuster releases. Its online services will mark a more aggressive push into the broader entertainment market. The next Xbox will be a formidable piece of hardware, and a worthy competitor to Sonys PS4.
If the rumors are false, Microsift can wait all they want. The rumors won't matter if the announcement clears the air.
So, Long is now disavowing his own publication's reporting? Seems to be what his wording implies.
What's changed? You didn't know dick about it then, you don't know dick about it now.
Another month in which editorials like this will be written by increasingly frustrated journalists who just want this ludicrous shadow-chasing to stop. The next Xbox exists, and its not the disaster the internet thinks it is Microsoft just needs to show it to us to make all this go away.

"TELL US YOUR NEW CONSOLE EXISTS OR WE'LL KEEP WRITING STORIES ABOUT HOW IT SUCKS, GET IT?"
Would a simple 'No it isn't always online/you can play used games' kill them? Then: Assumed it would be basically a 360 but more powerful, and then some silly gimmicky social shit I never touched.
Now: Forced Kinect. Forced Online. Can't resell my games when I'm done with them so I'd literally have to throw them in the trash.
Their silence indicates to me that they think they're holding a winning hand. And that they believe the media impact of a full reveal of the machine and its associated capabilities will be more effective than Sony's carefully measured information release.
I don't think they really give a shit if the media is getting frustrated. As long as developers/media partners have the info they need to develop their products, then everything else is gravy.
Time will tell however.
Dozens of rumors suggesting the same things?. We knew most of the PS4 things before it was revealed.
Then make stuff up in the meantime
"Rumour: 360 Achievements don't carry over to Durango"

Edge don't make shit up. Don't know why you'd want them to.
This just proves how MS needs a change, starting by it's main CEO....it's like a dinosaur runned company...
It's a rumor. Should be taken with a grain of salt until it's confirmed. Like I stated before no one but a privileged few know what is what. If you are basing purchasing decisions on rumors the jokes on you.
That tool bag just can't get enough of the sites and forums he says he ignores.
That's true, but they also weren't dead last in doing so last time. How is not announcing it bad management? I thought the 360 was announced in the same timeframe as what is happening now with Durango?
Nothing confirmed. Way to jump the gun...
6 months ago I would have been excited to see the new xbox revealed and been ecstatic to buy 1 day 1.
Now I doubt I'd even watch the event and I doubt I'll ever own one.
So, Long is now disavowing his own publication's reporting? Seems to be what his wording implies.
MS really should say something soon. Even if a lot of the rumors end up being false, they've been out there for a while, and MS has nothing to say to discredit them. It's forming a bad public opinion on the console.
'Journalists' are annoyed because they are probably privy to one or two things they are not allowed to repeat and likely too they are noticing over PAX/GDC their supposed 'mates' aren't telling them anything over a social drink - almost like their professionals or something.
Its not just some rumour out of thin air though, its being backed up time and time again. Look at the ps4 revel we pretty much knew nearly every single detail bar the 8 gig of ram.

It really aint that big of a deal. Once its announced it'll be plastered all over the news sites just like the PS4 was. Only people making a big deal of this are the ones who are obsessing over any tidbit of info they can get.
The average consumer doesn't care about always online, the potential lack of GDDR5 or no BC. its only the GAF crowd who's going crazy over shit like this.
At this point regarding Durango:
Why would I want to buy one?
Yup the 360 was announced in May of 05. Some people have short memories it seems.

The entire point is that with no other info due to Microsoft's silence this is the only info people have to react to. It is a bunch of negative publicity that could either be entirely denied by Microsoft if it is false or at least messaged better if true. They just need to say something.
He's a member here. He said he'd try to ignore posters like you, didn't he? Don't recall him saying he'd ignore gaf on the whole.
