The whole thing about MK11 being "mature" and a "fight for your life" is just some halfhearted nonsense the individual probably thought-up a few minutes before the interview, in lieu of being able to give his real feelings on the matter.
For me, this is the meat of the Polygon piece: “I’m sure that will disappoint some fans. We don’t have bathing suit fighters, and I think that’s fine. If people are disappointed, I don’t regret making that change by any means.” The quote is another demonstration of the conceited attitude spilling out from the entertainment industry that chooses to dismiss consumers by essentially rubbing a middle finger in their face, telling them to either get on board or get lost. If a company decides to change how certain content is represented in their now 27 year old consumer product, at least have the decency to show a little respect to the customers that have been designated as potentially worth sacrificing. This is Mortal Kombat, of course, so the franchise has a lot of leeway in how it messages things, but this interview is something I'll remember, next time NetherRealms or Warner Bros. wants to sell me a game.
