This project has been around for so long.
I believe that HBO has been messing with the book since before The Pacific. They even did a "concept" trailer when it was still called Mighty 8 to jump start it in production.

Today, Apple finally gave us a premiere date.

AppleTV+ announced wartime series Masters of the Air, which serves as a companion to Band of Brothers and The Pacific, will premiere on its streaming platform on January 26, 2024. The company also shared eight images to provide a first look at the show, helmed by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman.

There are a bunch of pictures in the article.

Band of Brothers was great.
The Pacific not so much, it has been a shore watching this one... I'm in episode 6, not sure if I'll watch the rest of it.

You guys should read the comments section of the band of brothers history buffs video. The writer of the series was in there talking about one of the inaccuracies and started divulging info on this series. this was like 5-6 years ago. he had been working on the screenplay and research for years before that.

very fascinating stuff.

Huh, the pictures don't show any of them but there are a lot of black actors in the cast, looks like at least some of them play Tuskegee airmen. I don't think these units worked together in WW2 (could be wrong) some I'm curious how they work them in. POW camp? Pacific jumped around a bit, maybe they do that. BoB really shined having that long continuous story, hard to replicate it though.

I just started reading the book. My uncle was a b17 navigator and was shot down. He was hidden by the Dutch underground.

Looks good. I'll maybe do a Band of Brothers rewatch before it. It's probably been more than 15 years since I last saw that so it's due a revisit.

Day fucking ONE!

This had better be aircraft porn though. I want P-47s, P-51s, P-61s, P-38s, P-39s, P-40s, B-17s, B-24s, B-29s, Spitfires, Hurricanes, BF-109s, Me262s, Me163s, all that stuff. Hope it's not just P-51s, B-17s, and 1 stock German plane.

To think this has been in sporadic development for 11 odd years is unbelievable. This is the longest I've endured waiting for a series to materialize.

I'm probably nitpicking but that first line in the trailer is lame as sh**.

"When you look at it, and don't pay attention to what's really going on, it's kind of beautiful."

(Cut to bad CGI fireworks)

Dear God I hope the writers room has some men in it.

Not everything has to be about identity politics. That shit will poison your brain if you get obsessed with it.

Eh, we'll see. Modern writing from huge production studios has been a trainwreck for years now. I think noticing red flags is probably warranted at this point.

According to IMDB the writers are all men, mostly just one guy (who worked on BoB back in the day). Couple episodes directed by women, I'm assuming Dee Rees is doing the ones featuring the Tuskegee as she has already worked similar ground before, the other woman director did Captain Marvel so take that as you will. The other co-director of Marvel directs a few eps of this show as well.

Nah a bunch of people are just overly sensitive these days. It's made discussing media so much worse.

Really looking forward to this. I doubt it will quite rival Band Of Brothers (which I maintain is in the top 3 TV mini series of all time) but I'm sure it'll be damn good, given the people involved.

Really enjoying this so far to. CGI could be better when the planes are on the ground but the scenes in the air are great. You definitely feel the intensity and claustrophobia of being inside the B-17.

First episode was good.

I want them to get to the part from the book where they talk about how British profalatics were too small for Americans.
