does anyone know where to find the Famitsu top 30 for the weeks of December 18th 2006, April 23rd 2007, and April 30th 2007? There is information missing from Garaph's weekly overviews.

I'd guess those are combined weeks, so you may just want to take the one big week values and divide them by two for the platforms. With that said, I guess we were able to pull out some of the separate numbers for those weeks (maybe from leaks?), since there's stuff in my database for them. Here's what I have (missing a few each from Dec 18-24 and Apr 30-May 6).

The sentiment is nice.

I'm willing to adjust the tone of my posts, if not the content.

The problem is, on occasion, people are just engaging in wishful thinking or cheer-leading, without reasoned argument behind it. However, they often appear to be under the illusion that something being "possible" while being wholly implausible and not based on anything of substance, amounts to some sort of sound logic or data-driven analysis. When their posts are deconstructed and refuted in a logical fashion, they proceed to further engage in wishful thinking.

Looking at the Vita for example, there is currently no reason to believe that Sony are going to invest significantly in it, there is no basis to the idea that there's some sort of planned turnaround in 2014 when the PS4 is on the market, and their forecasts are soberingly realistic. The lack of a Golden Week bump in this thread for example suggests underlying downward momentum. And in the US the system is barely registering; looking at the number of big-box stores and GameStops for example, these stores are selling something like 1 unit a fortnight - in terms of revenue/store area/time that's not a product you will want taking up space.

Sony know it is a failed product, they know it has no substantial future. Pointing this out will likely earn ire, but I don't really see there being a reasoned or data-driven argument refuting this.

Agreed. I'm perfectly willing to reevaluate my extreme pessimism on its future when and if there are facts that support a conclusion other than extreme pessimism, but as of right now, there aren't any.

Thanks again. Is there any known reason for this combined week business besides cost-cutting?

If you feel someone is crazy sometimes it's more worthwhile to just focus on having conversations with the people who are willing to have what you feel is a serious discussion and ignore other replies instead of giving their argument more attention.

SAN JOSE, Calif., (May 14, 2013) Leading video game publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. is thrilled to announce that Pac is back! PAC-MAN™ and the Ghostly Adventures will be coming to North and Latin American retailers in fall 2013 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Wii U™ system from Nintendo with an exclusive side-scrolling version of the game coming to the Nintendo 3DS® fall of 2013. Built upon the timeless and wildly successful PAC-MAN® legacy, PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures will boast an entirely new and exciting gaming adventure that is currently under development.

PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures follows the exciting storyline and charming characters from the highly anticipated PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures animated series created and produced by Avi Arad, acclaimed director and founder of Marvel Studios. The animated TV series, based on NAMCO BANDAI Games’ classic PAC-MAN property, will begin airing on Disney XD®. The game revolves around the vibrant universe of Pac-World, where Pacworlders lived in peace until the mischievous Netherworld ghosts, led by their wicked leader Betrayus, escaped from their ghoulish domain to forcibly take control of Pac-World. Pac-World’s only hope lies in the last surviving yellow Pacworlder, our hero with a voracious appetite.

Not only will PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures feature a revamped PAC-MAN universe, but it will also hearken back to PAC-MAN origins with classic elements such as Ghost encounters. The Ghost-chomping mechanics return from the original PAC-MAN but with exciting powered up variations in PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures, creating an innovative yet familiar gameplay experience.

“The PAC-MAN franchise has touched millions of gamers and non-gamers since its humble beginnings more than 30 years ago,” said Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing and Digital Sales at NAMCO BANDAI Games America. “With its long-standing history, PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures emerges as a new and reimagined PAC-MAN universe that still retains classic gameplay elements that will appeal to a whole new generation of gamers.”

If the PS4 launches at 39,980 yen in Japan it's going to have 10k a week numbers like the WiiU.

I don't think so. I might be speaking too soon, since we know basically nothing about it, but I think it will garner at least a bit more third party japanese support.

I don't see PS4 being a resounding success, more like hovering around the 20-25k area at that price.

I'd actually say it's pretty damn likely. The PS3 with it's games library is doing poorly, there's no reason to believe the PS4 with a higher price and even fewer unique games will be doing much better.

How much of that 3rd party support will be at launch is the problem. If the first party stuff is Knack, Drive Club, and Killzone, with Western games then 40K yen is going to be a tough sell until more appealing stuff shows up. If Final Fantasy is there at or around launch, it's a different story.

Do we have confirmation that the PS4 is definitely launching in Japan this calendar year?

Definitely. Maybe I'm overestimating, but that's what my gut tells me (been wrong plenty of times already heheh).

But until Square tells us anything, it is safe to assume a main, big, exclusive final fantasy is not happening for PS4 yet. I don't think it would be a smart decision either. They have XIII:LR and X/X-2 remake coming out this year, plus FFXIV. And with Square's latest financials, we should be paying attention to what will happen from now on.

Versus/XV/whatever has to be 2014. And everything points at a move to nextgen.

Sony hasn't even addressed Japan yet. I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see versus at launch (as crazy as it might sound). Versus + a dynasty warriors game is something I can see happening.

A port at best since DW8 just came out in Japan a few months ago, and Koei isn't known for making new entries in consecutive years for a single series (One Piece being an exception), only expansions.

It would be nuts of them, I think, to launch the HD FFX, XIV, and LR plus a new mainline FF for PS4 this year.

Wii U, Vita, and 3DS all has a Warriors game at launch. (Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper, Dynasty Warriors NEXT, Samurai Warriors Chronicles)
All used a ton of old assets, as far as I know.

Koei will probably do something similar for PS4. I don't think the franchise has much pull anymore.

Square Enix support for the PS4 (and the next Xbox, for what it's worth) seems inevitable. Do we have reason to believe they quickly can they mobilize that support?

Versus at launch is stupid. FF games don't have long legs and the install base would not be big enough for SE to be happy. It should be like FFX and release it at the end of PS4's first year so 2014.

I still maintain my judgement that if PS4 is able to have FF,GT6 and MGSV in Japan for its first year it should do well. Obviously the above have to be exclusive.

If Sony want's to remain relevant as dev in Japan they should also increase their SCEJ output. I mean SCEJ is massive, something like 400+ devs right? They should be putting out at least 4 games every two years.

Well we know MGSV isn't exclusive (unless you mean next gen exclusive, ie. just a PS4 version alongside PS360 not 720 as well) and GT6 seems unlikely...

FF pending.

Didn't Kojima say it was going to be two games, Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain. I thought it would be MGS GZ for 2013 and then MGS PP 2014.

I don't expect PS4 to have a Japanese line-up. Maybe some cross-gen game (like a Gundam), but not that much. Something more in line with PS3. Vita, instead, really had a Japanese launch line-up.

Strange Journey ended up with 53 points in COMGnet. Shin Megami Tensei IV has 123 points with 9 days to go.

I believe SJ ended up with 130k sales or so (someone back me up on that) but I don't think SMT IV will more than double it. Atlus games on the 3DS seem to have first weeks similar to their COMGnet preorders (so if we consider 1 point = about 1k) and we'll see if SMT IV is the same or it breaks the pattern.

I think the game has a chance to break the 200k mark. I do think it can do better than Nocturne in NA, though, so the loss in sales in Japan will be offset by Western sales.

If drops were similar to last year, sales for this week (Media Create) would be something like this:

3DS - 39.000
PS Vita - 13.000
PS3 - 10.000
Wii U - 5.500

I feel like Japan is going to focus on the PS3 for a while before they support the PS4 extensively, and I feel Sony should focus their efforts for the PS4 in the west more than Japan. The PS3 is their money maker currently with those software sales.
