Media Create Sales: Week 18, 2015 (Apr 27 - May 2)

So does Sony get a cut of Minecraft Vita sales since they published it in Japan? If so that's hilarious considering who owns the IP.

Dengeki lists total software sales as well. It has PS3 at 52.717 and PS4 at 51.981.

Interesting how fast PS4 is catching up (or PS3 is falling). Obviously more PS4 games are needed; too bad that no high profile PS4 titles were released during golden week.

Wii sold more software this week than PS3 or PS4 but you wouldn't know it looking at that top 20.

The Great Wii Revival.

I told you all it was coming, but you didn't listen!

More the latter than the former.

Oh, I just noticed that. But... the total software sales doesn't list Wii and yet everything adds up to 100%! This is really weird. Lol.
Yeah, i dont know why they didnt add Wii to that list for this week. The 100% should be correct if only counting the system listed though :)

Solid numbers for Xenoblade, considering the platform and IP. Guessing with digital sales it'll near 90-95k for the first week? Not terrible, again, considering.

Great #s for DQX considering it's an MMO. That means it has retained a good # of players this far into its life. Looks like the Wii U has become the lead platform for it (barring PC I presume).

Xeno X opening better than the original Xeno on Wii is pretty decent considering this is the Wii U we're talking about here.

WII Xenoblade Chronicles 79,163 / 163,442 2010-06-10
vs.
03./00. [WIU] Xenoblade Chronicles X (Nintendo) {2015.04.29} - 88,544 / NEW

I assume Xeno X's legs are going to suffer (especially compared to the great used sales of the original Xenoblade - closer to 400K w/ that), but not much can be done there.

Disappointing #s for P&D Mario, but I think most of us saw that coming more recently... For what it's worth, it sounds to me like P&DZ promised a lot more than the Mario version? P&DZ = full RPG w/ P&D mechanics vs. P&D Mario = just Mario themed basically? I kind of wonder how a P&D Z2 type of game may have performed instead.

Mario Party has really fallen. I remember during the GCN days those titles would sell in the hundreds of thousands.

Good numbers this week.

When it's all said and done, it'll probably do slightly worse than Xenoblade, which isn't great, but sort of an accomplishment on the WiiU. But again, its fate was always going to be driven by what happened in the West with the game.

The lack of the Wii DQX squ is just weird.

Great week for the Wii U though.

Still weird.

It's just Media Create not reporting it for some reason. Look further down for my post with Famitsu #s.

Also:
"Fire Emblem if's theme song, "if~ひとり思う~" (if~Thinking Alone~) will be released a single CD on July 1st in Japan. http://renka-web.com/ "

you should post the second part in the Fire Emblem thread, not here :p

holy fuck Wii U

barely beating PS4 with one of it's hugest releases... ever? Nintendo made the right choice delaying Zelda to the next system. This thing is just a waste to make games for. I feel bad for developers who have to make games on it cuz of publisher/moneyhat reasons.

I think developers are happy they are able to publish their games, even on WiiU. Monolith is first party btw.

Which one is of the hugest releases? And Nintendo delayed Zelda to the next system?

Media Create Sales: Week 17, 2015 (Apr 20 - Apr 26)

And here I was guessing 90-100,000 for XenoX.

Or would digital sales bump it into that range?

On the subject of digital sales, I suspect the game is just shy of 5K. That's an estimate based on other digital sales, combined with Nintendo's own eshop rankings.

Platinum, Monolith, Retro, any great developer forced to make games no one will buy.
You literally just listed Nintendo and Platinum.

Man thats a shame it seems Babel did so low was expecting at least 10k. Though they also did have issues with digital downloads due to a pricing issue which made the price higher than it was.

Da powa of pazudoraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Also is that sales # for New Tokyo Legacy: Operation Babel very low compared to its predecessor games?

Abyss did 15,242. Also Exp Inc said the digital sales were good too if the sales rankings were any indication for digital titles.

All of the info below for their vita titles.

Generation Xth series related
[PSV] Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss (5pb., 07/24/14) – 15,242
[PSV] Tokyo Legacy: Operation Babel (5pb.) {2015.04.30} - 8,104
[PSV] Labyrinth Cross Blood: Infinity - 9.006 / NEW
(Infinity Ultimate did not rank high enough to get a numerical statistic)

Other titles
[PSV] Demon Gaze (Kadokawa Games, 01/24/13) – 25,316
[PSV] The Stranger of Sword City: Black Palace (Experience, 01/22/15) – 11,559

To Heart 2 probably cannibalized a lot of the sales. DRPGs are long-ass games, you don't need more than one at a time. To Heart being a more established franchise probably helped too.

Over here in Japan folks generally stick to their own favorite series rather than just buying something because its a particular genre. So Exp and AquaPlus have their own camps basically. The Generation Xth series was pretty niche as is so it seems that they are doing it more for the fans rather than to try and bring in new people. Though the artwork update does help make purchases easier. I heard a lot of VA type of fans went and picked up the title just because a particular voice actress was in the title. Kinda like how with DT2 bunch of Imas fans bought the game due to 2 VAs from the series being in it is what a friend of mine told me who follows that stuff.

While its not a good thing did kinda expect the numbers to be lower than Abyss, since outside of the graphical design update the title itself did not do anything new gameplay wise. So from that am sure it lost some potential buyers for the next title. From here on out the word of mouth is what will continue to carry sales.

At least its good to see the LEs have run out. Do think the OST for Abyss / Babel coming with it helped with that a lot. Exp Inc in general still is fairly niche, but they know what kind of numbers to expect and produce accordingly.

So you guys think developers at Nintendo like the Wii U and like making games for it? Some wishful thinking right there.

I'm willing to bet most of them can't wait for NX. Retro put out the best 2D platformer of all time and no one fucking played it.

Platinum, Monolith, Retro, any great developer forced to make games no one will buy.

Obviously flops will happen on any platform, but with the Wii U it's a 100% chance your game is gonna flop without Zelda/Mario.

I'm glad you can read. Congratulations.

No one buys most platinum games anyway

Given the success of Terraria and Minecraft in Japan, I have to wonder how Airship-Q will perform. It's a blatant knockoff of Terraria, but unlike the two western digging games, it's entirely Japanese. The company behind the Rage of Bahumut mobile games have invested in it, which makes me wonder if they'll be more aggressive in promoting; Airship-Q physical releases day 1, Airship-Q the manga, Airship-Q toys, Airship-Q anime, etc.

That's really debatable.

where is bloodborne i thought that game would have legs

It's already at 196k. The entire PS4 install base in Japan is only 1.44 million. Almost 1 in every 7 PS4 owner has the game already - that's about as high as you can possibly expect with a game that isn't Mario, Pokemon, Monster Hunter, or attached to a popular anime.

holy fuck Wii U

barely beating PS4 with one of it's hugest releases... ever? Nintendo made the right choice delaying Zelda to the next system. This thing is just a waste to make games for. I feel bad for developers who have to make games on it cuz of publisher/moneyhat reasons.

Is this a joke post or are you really that ignorant? Every sentence in this post is so off the mark I don´t know where to start.

On the other hand Wii U sold more games than the entire PlayStation + Xbox families combined this week. Perhaps you should redirect some of that pity? I hear Nippon Ichi could use some.

Sure, but what's not debatable is that it was the sequel to a game that sold over 5m easily. Tropical Freeze flopped in every continent.

Everything about the game got better so really the only conclusion to draw is Wii U screwed Tropical Freeze.

and I know this is Nintendo fans celebrating sales |OT| so I'm sorry to disrupt your discussion. I just thought those numbers were ridiculously low for two big releases whereas PS4 barely had anything chart.

Sales-Age Genius
It's not the first time Media Create stopped tracking software for a system (at least for public numbers) but it must be the first for so high software sales.,

Tropical Freeze on Wii wouldn't set the charts on fire either.

edit: Oh there it is...

Umm...the ps4 has been selling better than the Wii U. Has been for a while. And we've ready seen the bumps from the likes of MK8 and Smash.

Dont tell me you were magically "expecting" 40k from Xeno
