North Korea May Have Tried to Provoke Japan, Kim Jong Un Missile Launch Photo Shows

On the July 4th test, something abnormal was found pertaining to the predicted trajectory on the paper map in front of Kim at the viewing area. Close analysis of the map appears to show the splash down point of the missile just off Okushiri Island located west of Hokkaido, Japan," Strategic Sentinel's report read.

"That trajectory could have potentially put the missile inside Japan’s Territorial Waters, the area of sovereign waters 12 nautical miles off any country. This area is directly controlled under the [nation's] laws and includes airspace above and the seabed below."

Strategic Sentinel, which describes itself as a "geostrategic consulting agency," said senior image analyst Nathan J. Hunt made the discovery by enhancing the image and comparing the missile's projected trajectory line with that of a previous launch of a missile with some shared characteristics.

Although the article title says "attack" It seems NK tried to get the missile in waters close to Japan that would satisfy a "military response". Probably to see how far th could go, and to embolden themselves

To be fair, the laissez-faire attitude towards NK doesn't seem to be working anymore.

Not that I expect the US to strike first or anything, but it only seems to be a matter of time before Lil Kim steps out of bounds.

Yeah, that too, but dropping within the ocean seems unlikely to get a response. Obviously, Japan doesn't want to declare war and Im guessing they'll have to wait until a devastating hit before they do.

Dropping a missile in Japan's waters is basically the same as dropping a missile on land and hitting nothing. Both will likely get a very angry response from the Japanese.

I honestly don't think Korea understands what they're doing.

Ah yes. Hidden messages. That's what the guy who went out of his way to say "”If the United States or South Korea fires even a single flame inside North Korean territory, we will demolish the origin of the invasion and provocation with a nuclear tipped missile," is known for.

NK does many things. Most of them absolutely horrible. Issuing lowkey threats aint one of them.

The laissez-faire attitude isn't working because the United States elected a fucking moron as president and everyone, including North Korea, knows it. Except for the morons that voted for Trump. And now, NK is pushing buttons to see what they can get away with, while simultaneously coming off as powerful to its population. Wonderful.

It's interesting how Japan is kind of a mythical enemy of NK, not a real one. To be sure they aggressed against Korea in the pre-war period, and that's why they're codified as enemy number 1 (or 2) in the NK mindset. But they haven't actually acted much directly against the NK regime in their ~70 years. This is just a part of NK's national fantasy.

I guess that's just how blood feuds work...

You're acting as if this is a new development.

News flash: Aggression like this is nothing new. They were ramping up during the latter years of Obama's presidency, too. It has little to do with who the US president is and more to do with the fact that NK finally has something to show for the years of military research.

Nothing will actually happen. North Korea is quite aware that if they fire first they will lose. Now do I want North Korea or any country to have Nuclear weapons? No, but the real agreessor in this situation really is the U.S. even with North Korea's sabre rattling. This situation should have been dealt with back in the 90's.

Provoke Japan to do what? Provoking Japan (or SK for that matter) would be provoking the US. Thus, Japan getting provoked would be the end of NK.

Honestly I'm starting to question if they actually are aware of the consequences. They keep pushing their luck way further then they really should.

Bad news for the world. This gives Abe and the Japanese hardliners an excuse to militarize and makes the entire region more dangerous. Also gives SK a desire to pursue their own nuclear weapon development.
