Most showing still take a long time to wait. VR while exciting, have no release date too.
These are only annoying tease. I chose C

For me it was a solid C, but that's an issue with personal preference as I'm just not big into the horror or psychological horror game genres anymore. If I were, I'd probably have rated it much higher -- B or B+ -- given the RE4 Remake, the RE Village VR, and The Callisto Protocol trailers.

The footage of Horizon Call of the Mountain absolutely destroyed my interest for it. It reminded me of so many of those slap-dash PS Move and MS Kinect titles that just threw a bunch of elements together and did none of them particularly well. Seeing the machines from a first person VR perspective would be fun for a bit but quickly lose its luster. Those floating detached hands killed the immersion for me as well.

Stray was a day one purchase/play for me as soon as it was announced years ago so nothing they showed me today made me any more or less interested about the game. Nice to have an official confirmation of the July 19 release date however.

Rollerdrome: Not my cup of tea but I liked the concept, art design, and presentation.

SF6... meh, as an old fart who grew up with SF in the arcades, I guess I'm just Street Fighter-ed out.

I’d rate it a C overall, but compared to previous SoPs it was an A+. Definitely a big step up imo.

C, but a high C.

Reason: I thought the show started off really strong with RE4 and some of those PSVR2 reveals. Spider-Man coming to PC was also pretty awesome. I was already sold on The Callisto Protocol before tonight. Stray seemed ok. I don't like Street Fighter so that SF6 trailer did nothing for me, at least until I see more of that open-world game mode. Rollerdrome seemed kind of cool so long as it maintains the action all the way through. Eternights is not at all my type of game. I've already tried No Man's Sky in VR on PC and thought it was pretty neat, though the UI needed some work (this might have been fixed since I last tried it though). And that Horizon VR game seemed alright but looked more like an early, generic VR experience gameplay wise like you'd have seen years ago when VR was just starting to gain momentum.

The whole thing kind of ended on a whimper for me, especially with ending on that FF16 trailer. I just was not enthused by that FF16 trailer and seeing what looked like a bunch of summon vs. summon fights. The gameplay just looked very underwhelming. Maybe it was because of what they decided to showcase and the rest is better, but just from that trailer tonight it did nothing for me.

Also, really hard to get excited for PS5 exclusives when I don't have a PS5 yet and they're still near impossible to find. Plus, I do most of my gaming on PC these days (again, PS5 shortage and all) and I have a PCVR headset. So, when I see third-parties making PSVR2 exclusive VR content, I tend to get a bit ticked off that it's not also coming to PCVR. I'd have loved a first-party RE Village VR update on PC but that doesn't seem to be in the cards, same as when RE7 VR was PSVR only. Hell, the RE4 VR release on PC was also kind of a kick in the nuts since it was Quest only. At least modders are able to add VR to the PC Resident Evil releases, but official support is still preferred.

Solid B in my book.

RE4 Remake looks phantastic, what a way to start the show!
The Callisto Protocol looks very interesting
Stray is cool, I like kitty cats

Thats it. I don't care about the rest. But getting 3 potentially good games out of a 30 min show, that's cool.

Found it better than last years actual showcase tbh. Start to finish I wasn't bored

It was an A for me, maybe an A- actually but that's not a grade in the poll. I think we can be a lot more optimistic about State of Plays going forward between this one and the Harry Potter one as well.

For me, FF XVI and SF6 were the standouts, they both look great. I'm way more impressed with FF XVI now than I was last time they showed it off, too. Games like RollerDome were a nice surprise. Spiderman for PC was a big surprise. Horizon CotW looks good tho it'll probably be a while before I get a PSVR2 (and I hope it's PC compatible). Also nice to see new stuff for games like Stray. There wasn't really a weak game in the presentation, either.

Hoping for some more good gaming news next week with Summer Games Fest, and Microsoft's show Sunday after next.

I voted A for two things, FF16 & Eternights. I need more dating sims that has similar if not better graphics than Eternights plus it has combat And you can hold hands. So it’s a massive W for me. Say what you want to say about FF16 trailer but the soundtrack got me goosebump and pumped for when it finally arrives on PS5

B.

Think it's silly to give a PlayStation State of Play an A if it is mostly just multiplatform third party stuff. A bit more first party, like ending with some God of War news might have bumped it up. But it was solid, nicely paced, and had a bit of something for everyone.

I feel like Sony could have bumped this just by saying at the end, "We'll be back this summer with a dedicated developer walkthrough of one of PlayStation's biggest exclusive titles... See you next time!" Didn't even need footage, or a release date tease, didn't even need to name the game (we'd all assume God of War, and be about it until it either was or wasn't.) Just a clear declaration that this is the first of several PlayStation-centric moments to tune in for in the next little bit. That simple comfort would have made reassessing and scanning back through the show a bit more satisfying.

D but in reality I should give it an F.
That was lame as fuck after waiting so long.

RE4 was literally the only new announcements worth showing and its not exclusive.
So as a PS5 owner, it showed me no reasons why I need to game on PS5. All the stuff shown could be played on PC or Xbox

FF16 was meant to come out in 2020/2021 lol….. Lame ass show

Best SOP for sure, but still kinda meh for me personally since I'm not a huge RE or FF fan. I would have liked a huge surprise announcement or a long dormant IP born again.

What time is it?
Since I love Capcom, I gave it an A. RE4 remake is a helluva way to open and I love Street Fighter. That "not Deadspace" game looks pretty good too. I do think not working out a deal with Valve for Half Life Alyx is a disappointment. I'd be there day one for PSVR2 if it had that piece of software.

Callisto Protocol, RE4, Stray, all very awesome. And i didn't think the first two would show up

I gave it a B.

I only give A if theres a AAA first party game. Plus Im very certain they are holding GOW2 after Microsoft’s showing.

Clear

CliffyB's Cock Holster
B+, nothing bad in there, even the titles I have no real interest in seemed to be quality offerings.

Basically would've been A-tier had there been a big new IP reveal at the end, but for a SoP... more than enough because when all's said and done these shows are about maintaining interest, not making a grand, defining statement.

I suspect their next show will be stronger.

  • RE 4 - 6/10 (didn't look like as much like a huge upgrade)
  • Village VR - 3/10 (don't have VR)
  • Retribution 3/10 (don't have VR)
  • Horizon VR 3/10 (don't have VR)
  • Stray 8/10 (looks interesting)
  • Callisto Protocol 8/10 (looks like dead space)
  • Rollerdrome 7/10 (looks fun enough)
  • Eternights 6/10 (looks like a generic dating sim without the porn)
  • Street Fighter 6 6/10 (neat designs. It's time to buy SF5 and start the wait for a complete edition of this one.
  • Tunic 8/10 (I'm very interested, but the "extra" giveaway will discourage a retail release)
  • Season 6/10 (looks like one of those walking sim)
  • Final Fantasy XVI 8/10 (the series has burned me to many times in the recent years)
  • Spider-Man Pc reveal.... (What am I supposed to do with that?)
I'd say the whole thing is a C.

Solid B, really cool stuff with FFXVI and finally I feel like I'm ready to hop on VR as well so great to see the effort they're putting into that. I think for an A I'd need to see something unexpected or maybe some 1st party stuff.

Also glad The Callisto Protocol was finally shown off. Looks to be one of the coolest games I'll never play, just like Dead Space. I can't afford enough diapers to contain all the pant-shitting It'll make me do.

B, judged in context relative to others.

But I was pretty much interested in a lot there. The PSVR2 stuff was a nice showcase for leaped quality. Callisto protocol looks good. Already played Tunic and it was decent. I'm not a SF or FF nerd but those games iterations look solid as well.

Solid B, but the PC announcement for Spider-Man was unnecessary for a SoP announced as dedicated to 3rd party and VR2.

Most of what was shown was interesting (minus that rollerblade thing).

PS: were they trolling a GoW announcement with a release date for 2023 right at the beginning of the show?

I was hoping for some actual new PS5 exclusives….. this was just regurgitated titles from 2020 and RE4

The VR announcements are at the very least PS5 console exclusive and it was announced as a 3rd party and VR2 show from the beginning.

Would any of the announced new 3rd party games be (timed) exclusive, you would hear the whiney echos of the "oh no, the moneyhats" folks from miles away.

Well there was quite some horror lol. RE4, Village, Callisto, TWD. Forgot something?

I think its one of the best SoP. We got FFXVI release date. SFVI being shown. RE4 Remake being shown. Finally Village VR confirmed. Usually SoP was about smaller games, I usually don't care much for.

They should of just done a proper VR2 show when its closer to release and know the release date. This was so pointless as there gonna show them again.

Anyone saying moneyhat is an idiot lol, theres always been console 3rd party exclusives. They are just dummies.

Showing a new Persona 6 exclusive, or a new exclusive game by the Nioh Team would of made a show worth watching. This was just not for me

I just wanted some new annoucements and some 3rd party exclusives. RE4 was the only thing really worth seeing

If you open your show with a remake of an old game that's still perfectly playable in 2022, a remake that we all knew was coming then you know you're up for a rough ride.

I liked all Horizon related stuff. New content for Forbidden West, first look at the VR game. The rest was a snore fest.

You should read dude they said it was more focused on third party.

Yet they showed Horizon 2 update, Spiderman PC port.
Sony trying to Hype up God of War R release date as something special isn’t a win, its a minimum. It was meant to come out 2021

Those were already known in advance so based on the third party alone that's gotta be an A.

Why do people keep having high expectations for SoP. Unless it's a game specific one, they suck. Sony Showcase is where it's at.

Capcom pretty much carried the show guess it not fighting game fan since those games aren't meant for the casual at heart.

Exactly what they should've done. It was more stacked than I expected it to be.

I easily voted A, because Resident Evil 4 Remake announced, Calisto gameplay, Final Fantasy 16 was shown and Street Fighter 6 revealed.
The VR segment was short and didn't annoy me.
The free update for Horizon Forbidden West owners is nice ( I don't own that game )
Spiderman coming to PC is great for PC gamers
The few other games they showed were decent too.

There honestly is not much more you could've shown in 30 minutes to represent the PlayStation system/brand showing 3rd Party blockbusters, a little bit of VR, indies, a game for PC, and a free upgrade.

Now the question is when will the next exclusive PlayStation event be to show the goods the first party studios are now working on. Maybe September event and November God of War launch

A grade State of Play.

Callisto Protocol
RE4,
RE8 VR,
Saints and sinners ch 2,
FF16,
Horizon VR
and SF6!

IDK but SF6 made very nostalgic. It looked so hype.

Ive played and owned every street fighter game. It wasnt new to me. It was announced months ago.

Im gonna buy it anyway. The adventure mode stuff looks cool but like I said before, I wanted to see NEW stuff

Its not nit picking its true. Not like a God of War R release date would change the show for me.

It was meant to come out 2021 so its not like Ill be sucking Song arses for announcing a release date to game thats been delayed all this time

B for effort.

The bar was certainly low as well :)

Surprised to have GoW missing, the indies were charming, the VR games had too many zombie games but still excited for the platform.
